No Ovechkin tonight, folks. Don’t flip out when you see Hendricks-Perreault-Semin line out there – and it’s your top line. For real.

I’m missing the start of tonight’s invariably painful display of ineptitude by a team that should be challenging for the top spot in the league festivities. Ballet class.

Today is National Margarita Day: in preparation for viewing the slag-heap (credit to Smokin’ Al for that one) that is the current state of Das Kapital, , I vote to forego the limes and salt and start pounding straight tequilla shots.
It’s actually Die Kapital. Das Kapital refers to financial capital.

This is pure speculation; but, what are the chances we see some sort of package including Vokoun sent to the Maple Leafs for a package including Grabovski? Is he a player of the touted “2C” caliber?

Salihi played with Boskovic in Austria and the two played well together. Decent size, good in the air. Kinda like a target striker but finishes well.

Easy to say be sellers, and I don’t necessarily agree, but I’m wondering what you want to move, and what you want to get for it. Tossed comments like “Sell” don’t really mean anything. And realistically, you can’t trade the entire team. Are you suggesting another rebuild, or just move players on expiring contracts?
Gotta get to eighth place!
Basically what we talked about in the comments for Rob’s post earlier today. Move Vokoun, Wides, Knuble, and any other expiring contracts with value, and if the deal is out there, move one of our firsts with a player and a prospect to try to bring back a legit 2C.
by Murshawursha on Feb 22, 2012 7:44 PM EST up reply actions
For me, anyone on expiring contracts, I could also live with moving Hamrlik or Schultz to free up cap space if there is someone we want to go after. I would be looking to get 1st round picks to flip for a 2C for the better pieces. The lesser pieces players/prospects would be fine
MOAR SEVERINO!
I don’t think we have the AHL people to call up to justify moving every player on an expiring contract.
Gotta get to eighth place!
I mean at that point we’re basically phoning in the rest of the season, so what difference does it make? Fail for Nail!
by Murshawursha on Feb 22, 2012 7:46 PM EST up reply actions
Well obviously you wouldnt move everyone, no one will really want Halper or Knuble for what would help us. The way I feel is we arent going anywhere, so give guys like McNeil who have never had a chance a chance. Worst case they suck and we get a better draft pick, best case we have a piece for the future we didnt know we had
MOAR SEVERINO!
One thing I miss about this team is the fun we used to have under BB. Once BB took away the fun things seemed to take a turn for the worse, and havent gotten any better. Ottowa looks to be having much more fun than we have had all year
MOAR SEVERINO!
The last few months under BB were not fun, unless I’ve completely lost my grip. Perhaps its stopped being about the coach and more about the players looking like they’re marking time.
Dingos are involved. Best not to ask.
I sure would like the Caps to have some good physcial hits

If We Must Die
If we must die—let it not be like hogs
Hunted and penned in an inglorious spot,
While round us bark the mad and hungry dogs,
Making their mock at our accursed lot.
If we must die—oh, let us nobly die,
So that our precious blood may not be shed
In vain; then even the monsters we defy
Shall be constrained to honor us though dead!
Oh, Kinsmen! We must meet the common foe;
Though far outnumbered, let us show us brave,
And for their thousand blows deal one deathblow!
What though before us lies the open grave?
Like men we’ll face the murderous, cowardly pack,
Pressed to the wall, dying, but fighting back!

I don’t advocate selling or buying at the trade deadline right now, at least not for selling’s or buying’s sake. But per the excellent post on Japer’s this morning, if we can sell some assets high right now (Semin, Wideman) I think we should. And if we can get a stud 2C then I think we should. And if it takes some high-selling now to do the 2C-buying later, then I think we should do it in that order.
This team may have what it takes, it may not, and we haven’t given Hunter the chance to shine in the postseason, but I really see C depth as the long-term problem. We ain’t winnin’ the Cup until we get that stud 2C to complement a returning Backstrom.

Vokoun allowed the first two goals before being pulled.
Part of me likes to think he’s playing terrible on purpose so they trade him. Part of me also likes to think that GMGM will take the bait and do it.

I think that was Vokoun too. He got pulled from that game and I thought it wasn’t fair, but to get a spark whatever. He should be pulled from this one.
I’m really pissed at him. He was my favorite goalie in the league by far after Kolzig, and watching him this year, I don’t know why. It’s not that he’s struggling, because I stood by Olie up until we let him go. It’s his attitude. If you suck, you suck, but you can’t be a dick to your defense like he has been (From what I’m just seeing). It’s infuriating to me, and I really feel like trading him now. Call up Holtby or Sabourin, let Neuvirth live or die as a starter.
Gotta get to eighth place!
I’m not in agreement here. Wideman didn’t get walked, and Michalek only really got a weak shot off. That’s one Vokoun needs to save all season, and he let it through.
Gotta get to eighth place!
He got nutmegged, and whiffed if he was attempting to check.

But TV’s 5-hole has been his achilles heel. Both goals.

this has not been a bad period for the caps. just a couple of mistakes cost us two goals

That’s .25 more than we average lately.

Vokes is certainly not playing himself onto another roster these last two games. He must like it in DC
I used to be a hockey player, but then I took an arrow in the knee
Honestly, the more we lose before the deadline, the more we probably look to make that trade.
Gotta get to eighth place!
Right, but a contender isn’t going to pick this guy who’s playing this way these two games. 2 goals on 7 shots…regardless of which were/weren’t his fault.
Maybe he just wants a nice long summer with his family on the beach

I don’t think a bad 3/4ths of a season will take too much of his trade value away. Moreover, with the craziness and unpredictability that is NHL goaltending, Im sure there are a good amount of teams that would give quite a bit to grab Vokoun. The only problem is that “selling” Vokoun is the official white towel for this season, imo.
Soon the Championship with be ours, all ours!
Right, which is what I mean to say (The more the Caps or Him lose, the more likely he is to be sent off).
Gotta get to eighth place!
Bryz?
He has sucked in philly and philly is better than you guys…what would he solve?

I’ll read the optimistic posts. Too depressed to come up with any of my own.
This reminds me of the late 70s.

Good thing ur in the southeast so you could beat up bums earlier in the season to keep you afloat now.

Sad you couldn’t do better with your last comment here.
"My favorite fan base in D.C. is United's. Period. The end." - Steinberg
Fair deal on a lease? Apparently accomplished, though the mission is not complete. Let's Keep United in DC and realize the dream of a stadium with local investment and incentives to US Soccer's greatest club franchise.
