Second Period Open Thread

Selective amnesia would be so GOOD right now, as the Caps find themselves in a 3-0 hole to the worst team in the East...luckily there's 40 more minutes to go. Second period ahead.

What do you define as “going anywhere”? 1 team wins each year. 29 other teams end their season in a defeat.

The Caps are by no means out of the playoff race, and it’s a clean slate at that point. I’m not here telling you they’re going to win it all, but it’s far too early to be throwing in the towel. Finishing first never got them anywhere anyway.

Sell Vokoun, Knuble and Wideman, let’s reload our prospect pool. This will be a very good draft class, we could fill our holes and be serious contenders in 2 or 3 years, under this new style of hockey.

We do? What is he capable of--besides being...

a mediocre goalie? Get a good, experienced NHL coach—that ought to the GM’s top priority, IMO. For me it all starts with the coach, then the keepers, then the rest.

by timmyv38 on Feb 20, 2012 8:36 PM EST up reply actions

I’d be curious how Neuvy might do if a goalie coach were more involved. Evidently Prior stops in every couple of weeks.

Neuvirth has noted several times this season that it’s difficult not seeing the organization’s goalie coaches on a regular basis. Kolzig lives in the St. Petersburg, Fla., area and travels to the two minor league affiliates to work with the goalies there. Dave Prior, director of goaltending, also has scouting duties, works with the prospects and visits Washington every couple of weeks

Hi. My name is Christoph J. I'm a Caps "fan."

by Christoph J on Feb 20, 2012 8:36 PM EST up reply actions

I thought Neuvy might become a decent NHL starter and I think he still can, but seeing Vokoun here this year there is just a huge gulf between the two. I know that should be expected but what I mean is some of it doesn’t seem like stuff that just comes with experience. I’ve lowered my expectation of where Neuvy will end up accordingly and to me that is borderline NHL starter. Then again I’m no hockey scout so what do I know.

Most of the time after games like these they’ll come out and put up a decent effort the following game but then drop a games 2 through 5 after a clunker

Bruce Boudreau when asked about Brooks Laich's return to the lineup, he said: "He just adds another dimension to our team. If it was puzzle, he just fits that thing. He completes us."

poor Grandpa Slippers. Stick breaks on a clearing attempt, Laugher spends 10 seconds telling us how 22 whiffed on a cleaning attempt, and lost his stick, then lost his man, then held his man.

The game is full of deserving negative descriptions, the undeserving ones are just too brutal. :-(
