Second Period Open Thread
Selective amnesia would be so GOOD right now, as the Caps find themselves in a 3-0 hole to the worst team in the East...luckily there's 40 more minutes to go. Second period ahead.

What do you define as “going anywhere”? 1 team wins each year. 29 other teams end their season in a defeat.
The Caps are by no means out of the playoff race, and it’s a clean slate at that point. I’m not here telling you they’re going to win it all, but it’s far too early to be throwing in the towel. Finishing first never got them anywhere anyway.

I won’t say to sell everything, but I still think GMGM needs to be a seller at the deadline, instead of a buyer. Caps aren’t good enough to make much of an impact in the playoffs this season.
Failure is always an option.
No question. And I know you get it within the context of the bigger picture. I’m just irked by any reactionary and simplistic statements such as, “Sell!” …
Hi. My name is Christoph J. I'm a Caps "fan."
Can’t disagree with that. Some people do go a bit overboard – I don’t think Wilderthing was in this case though.
Failure is always an option.
amen brother.
Sell Vokoun, Knuble and Wideman, let’s reload our prospect pool. This will be a very good draft class, we could fill our holes and be serious contenders in 2 or 3 years, under this new style of hockey.

true, but GMGM seems inclined to move on from the run and gun hockey.

And have only a goalie on an expiring contract? Holby’s not exactly lighting it up in the A this year either. No thanks.

Because? Sure, Neuvy is having a shaky season but we all know what he’s capable of.
Hi. My name is Christoph J. I'm a Caps "fan."
We do? What is he capable of--besides being...
a mediocre goalie? Get a good, experienced NHL coach—that ought to the GM’s top priority, IMO. For me it all starts with the coach, then the keepers, then the rest.
Neuvy is, hardly, what I’d call a mediocre goalie with his potential and upside … the whole team has been mediocre this season.

I’d be absolutely astonished if he’s not, and if he’s not the starter. He has shown that he can be good if given a string of starts.
Failure is always an option.
I’d be curious how Neuvy might do if a goalie coach were more involved. Evidently Prior stops in every couple of weeks.
Neuvirth has noted several times this season that it’s difficult not seeing the organization’s goalie coaches on a regular basis. Kolzig lives in the St. Petersburg, Fla., area and travels to the two minor league affiliates to work with the goalies there. Dave Prior, director of goaltending, also has scouting duties, works with the prospects and visits Washington every couple of weeks
There's no bigger burden than a great potential - Linus Van Pelt
I thought Neuvy might become a decent NHL starter and I think he still can, but seeing Vokoun here this year there is just a huge gulf between the two. I know that should be expected but what I mean is some of it doesn’t seem like stuff that just comes with experience. I’ve lowered my expectation of where Neuvy will end up accordingly and to me that is borderline NHL starter. Then again I’m no hockey scout so what do I know.
Or sheltering Vokun for an eventual trade
What doesnt kill you makes you stronger.
by BetterOffWith28 on Feb 20, 2012 8:33 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
They should trade him at the deadline. He has value for any contender who has goalie issues – Chicago, for instance.
Failure is always an option.
I honestly think the Caps can still win it. ’Canes are beatable, but then again…

To be fair, it’s not just sluggishness from the Caps. The Hurricanes are playing better than a team without a chance of getting into the playoffs should be playing at this point in the season.
Dingos are involved. Best not to ask.
The caps haven’t exactly been out there dominating and still magically came out with a 3 goal hole. They’re playing as bad as…well worse than the worst team in the east.

The caps at this point are hardly more than an also-ran team. Its a very thin line between playoff team and not, especially when your division leader would barely be good enough for 8th place.

I object to using a derogatory term for a woman’ body part as an insult.

And, had any of the mods seen that, they would agree. That term is unacceptable.
Failure is always an option.
Just catch up, and agreed. Let’s move along.

Fair deal on a lease? Apparently accomplished, though the mission is not complete. Let's Keep United in DC and realize the dream of a stadium with local investment and incentives to US Soccer's greatest club franchise.

How the fuck does an O-zone faceoff turn into a 4-2 the other way? What kind of shit was this team smoking pre-game?
Cross check and all call.

as I keep saying…….if the NHL isn’t going to hold the officials accountable, at least we can. And that was one weak-ass call.

The only downside is the caps aren’t a team where you can say, well, they will learn from this and not come out like this next game.

Most of the time after games like these they’ll come out and put up a decent effort the following game but then drop a games 2 through 5 after a clunker
Bruce Boudreau when asked about Brooks Laich's return to the lineup, he said: "He just adds another dimension to our team. If it was puzzle, he just fits that thing. He completes us."
Brooks Laich completing everything from teams to tires and everything in between.
What’s their record for the last ten?
2-shit ad shit?

poor Grandpa Slippers. Stick breaks on a clearing attempt, Laugher spends 10 seconds telling us how 22 whiffed on a cleaning attempt, and lost his stick, then lost his man, then held his man.
The game is full of deserving negative descriptions, the undeserving ones are just too brutal. :-(

Why would he want a player to be injured? That’s stupid.

If I see the headline that Justin Peters blanks the Caps, I’m not watching another game this year.
