first round match-ups in MRTS = (3) i12swim vs. (6) d’ohboy, and (4) cluster vs. (5) killer_carlson.

swim with the exact same number of regular season wins (103) as during his championship season last year.

An omen of things to come? I think so.

it helped that he had a bye last year. more teams bunched at the top and the bottom this time around. swim was also hit with a rash of injuries late last week (briere and wiz)—no telling how much that will effect him in round 1. he obviously still had enough fire power to beat me, so i’m glad he’s on the other side of the bracket.

by Natty Bumppo on Feb 20, 2012 10:21 AM EST up reply actions

Not going to be easy but hopefully my goalies can stay hot and maybe LA can score more than a goal or 2 every game so I can get some wins. Gonna be harder without a bye this year but I could see pretty much anyone left winning it. The two week games mean there is a lot that can still happen.

I’m the only negative in the entire league. Hooray bad luck!

Please, call me F&B.

by Rob Parker on Feb 20, 2012 9:15 AM EST reply actions

Your team is interesting. You led a few categories, but were last in +/- and your goalies were terrible. Maybe some schedule luck? I know I had some this year. Only had to play you once, and always seemed like I was in H2H matchups with the lower half of the league

by Cluster on Feb 20, 2012 12:44 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Yeah, the scheduling wasn’t even, I think I played every playoff team twice. Not that I’m complaining, my team was middle of the pack in pretty much every category, so 5th place sounds about right.

by Killer_Carlson on Feb 20, 2012 1:12 PM EST up reply actions

i was the same—the four teams i played only once were all non-playoff teams, and the matchups have been the same each year (i.e. i played CB once both years, malin once both years, etc.).

it will be some work, but i’d love to see the matchups jumbled next season. or some rule applied that allows us to set the schedule based on standings from the year before, i.e. the NFL (not sure how to do that).

by Natty Bumppo on Feb 20, 2012 5:36 PM EST up reply actions

I was 32-5-3 against CB and Yoshie this season. Only reason I made playoffs. Be scared K_C!

by Cluster on Feb 20, 2012 10:25 PM EST up reply actions

That’s some fine stat padding. My mediocre offense and goaltending were being carried significantly by Neal and Thomas who are both gone now, so Natty must be pumped about his side of the bracket.

by Killer_Carlson on Feb 21, 2012 11:58 AM EST up reply actions

yup, REAL excited about running into the guy who killed F&B the last week of the season (7-2-1) and beat me two weeks prior (6-4). quit sandbagging!

by Natty Bumppo on Feb 21, 2012 5:07 PM EST up reply actions

Ha, I’ll sandbag all I want!

Got some pretty ridiculous goaltending from Brodeur and Nabokov the last couple of weeks, we’ll see how long that lasts. I’m hoping Nabokov gets traded to a contender, but it looks like he’s trying to re-sign with the Isles.

Release the Mackan!

by Killer_Carlson on Feb 21, 2012 10:14 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, Bryz was a goat fuck and Hiller was for most of the year too. Hiller has been good lately and now I have TT so hopefully I’ve addressed that. It looked like I had the 2 seed locked up so I didn’t bother moving Bryz, hoping he’d get hot. Now I need to make a decision though. I won’t win anything with a dead weight roster spot.

Please, call me F&B.

by Rob Parker on Feb 20, 2012 3:46 PM EST up reply actions

one of the more impressive things about swim’s win last year was that he won with tyler seguin on his bench the entire finals matchup. ballsy move that paid off handsomely this year, and will pay off handsomely again next year in his last year as a prospect.

by Natty Bumppo on Feb 20, 2012 5:39 PM EST up reply actions

Definitely a ballsy gamble. His offense was stacked last year.

Please, call me F&B.

by Rob Parker on Feb 20, 2012 7:13 PM EST up reply actions

I’m glad this season is about over for me. What a textbook case of mismanagement.

I'll have the milksteak, over hard

MRTS draft order - picks 1 through 6

1) CB
2) yoshietree
3) malin
4) renstar
5) knee high
6) SME

by Natty Bumppo on Feb 20, 2012 10:22 AM EST reply actions

CB was the only dead wood in the league this year. Probably needs to “opt” out next season

by Cluster on Feb 20, 2012 12:30 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

There were many weeks where he didn’t update his team. I understand if he still wants to do it, but I think it would be good to look for a replacement to take over his team.

by i12swim on Feb 20, 2012 12:36 PM EST up reply actions

The last time he set his lineup was November 13th, so it’s not like he’s been checking in and out. Maybe it’s just a pet peeve of mine, but we’re all busy. It literally takes less than a minute to set your whole lineup for the week.

by Cluster on Feb 20, 2012 3:48 PM EST up reply actions

No, not just your pet peeve. Nov. 13 is ridiculous. If you set it on Monday and then sometime mid-week you have a guy go on IR or come off IR, that’s one thing. But not setting it at all…

Please, call me F&B.

by Rob Parker on Feb 20, 2012 3:54 PM EST up reply actions

agreed. CB completely checked out. knee high also went through long spells not setting his roster. is everyone aware you can set your roster for future games? (i.e. in 15 minutes, you could click through ALL your games and set your rosters for the entire season.)

i think there should be a rule to continue at least setting rosters throughout the season. i understand if someone’s out of contention and has no incentive to make active roster transactions, but leaving stars on the bench is BS. as stands, there’s no reason not to tank games towards the end of a season as a rebuilding strategy.

by Natty Bumppo on Feb 20, 2012 5:46 PM EST up reply actions

i should add: this goes hand-in-hand with the issue of unbalanced schedules. since we’re destined to play some teams once and some teams twice, dormant teams have the potential to strongly impact the playoff standings.

by Natty Bumppo on Feb 20, 2012 5:52 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, we talked last year a little about putting money on the line. We might want to revisit that with a penalty for not setting your roster.

I don’t know how people could not know you can set rosters in advance. I’m confident Knee and CB are aware of that feature.

Please, call me F&B.

by Rob Parker on Feb 20, 2012 7:14 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, and he wasn’t very active on the Rink either. Probably a busy year for him but that needs to be addressed.

Please, call me F&B.

by Rob Parker on Feb 20, 2012 3:47 PM EST up reply actions

i put together a draft pick tracker similar to what knee high distributed last year. link here. i relied on my gmail search, so it’s possible there are missing trades. let me know if you see mistakes and i’ll update.

from a quick glance, K_C is looking to match his brother’s draft haul from this year.

by Natty Bumppo on Feb 20, 2012 10:28 AM EST reply actions

I won’t have all the 1st round picks that F&B had, but I should be done drafting by the 6th or 7th round.

Man, my team started off good and hot this year. And then it was just a hot mess for the remainder of the season.

Once you take the fisting element out, it's not romantic anymore.

He really rocked those 2 weeks!

by Steckel Me Elmo on Feb 21, 2012 9:26 AM EST up reply actions

Couple of good first round playoff matchups in MRTS. I’m deadlocked with K_C at 5-5, and D’oh’s 7-3 lead over swim is closer than it seems. Most of their categories could go either way.

My goalies came up huge for me yesterday, and my PIM chasing mission with Prust was a success.

by Cluster on Feb 28, 2012 11:26 AM EST reply actions

Yeah, you’re waiver queening hard for PIMs, aren’t you? You pretty much locked up a goalie sweep last night and you have a ridiculous +/-, so I’m boned unless I can win every other category. Not liking my chances.

by Killer_Carlson on Feb 28, 2012 5:21 PM EST up reply actions

Are you saying McQuaid isn’t up there with Weber and Karlsson as stud fantasy D? C’mon!

I think how Theo does tonight for you will determine how I play my goalies the rest of the week. I’ve got a pretty comfortable lead in all three goalie cats, but if he puts in a good one it will put some pressure on me to play my guys.

by Cluster on Feb 28, 2012 6:43 PM EST up reply actions

McQuaid for my first!

Oh, shit, the deadline passed. Darn.

Please, call me F&B.

by Rob Parker on Feb 29, 2012 1:43 PM EST up reply actions

just drop all your goalies for PIM guys!

by Natty Bumppo on Feb 29, 2012 3:12 PM EST up reply actions

This would’ve been a good time to catch you in a matchup, with Vokoun struggling and Howard out.

by Cluster on Feb 29, 2012 3:29 PM EST up reply actions

…and koivu possibly out the rest of the season, and toews still not skating with a rumored concussion, and letang now likely concussed….

dammit.

by Natty Bumppo on Mar 1, 2012 12:03 AM EST up reply actions

I wish someone would remind my team that the playoff matchups are two weeks long…
