We lost the coin flip last night. If Neuvy stops Sammuelson’s 2 shots (which 95% of the time he would) and Halpern doesn’t get beat by the pipe it’s a completely different game. That’s what is so frustrating, there is just no margin for error.
that said I turned the game off when FLA went up 3-1 with 10 min. left, so yeah it was painful.
Weird moment of the day. Clips discussion veers a little to the non-family-friendly side. So I google a name to discover said actress is a porn star, which doesn’t surprise me. I repond on twitter to JP and Neil about a play on names, without mentioning either.
I end up being followed on twitter by a porn actress.
Blocked that one pronto.

Good one! And I do enjoy cooking. I chose the RollinInRed name (besides the obvious) for the fact that we are sending our son off to college in the fall to Miami University. We’ll be in the red and they are the Redhawks. Lame, I know…
I’ll try anything. My mom was a home ec. teacher (back when they called them that) so I grew up with better home-cooked meals than what you could get out. It rubbed off on me and I cook after work almost every night. Sounds like there are some good cooks on this site judging by the pre-game menus.
That sounds like me, except my mom was a professional housewife. Everyone in my family cooks a lot. Sharing favorite recipes is always welcome.
Just curious – do you bake?
Failure is always an option.
I love to bake. I know a lot of people say they like to cook but not bake and vice versa, but I like them both equally.
Same. I used to dislike baking, but in the last few years I started making homemade breads. Might take a while, but the results are worth it.
Failure is always an option.
I agree. I got into serious bread baking when we lived overseas and became addicated to all things from King Arthur Flour.
I baked a scrapple, egg, and cheese casserole over the weekend. Mmmmm, so good,
You’re the boss, applesauce.
If you like scrapple, many people seem opposed to it but it really is sausage more-or-less. It is actually less fatty than bulk sausage.
You’re the boss, applesauce.
my mom was a professional housewife for many year but a HORRIBLE cook! (and my dad fancies himself to be a great cook and grillmaster, and he his neither)
I learned how to cook in Italy. best thing I ever did! I also got The Art of Simple Food for christmas and there are lots of goodies in there to incorporate into how I already cook.

I used to be a valet parker when I was in college. One of the places we worked was Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase. There was a member there who had a BMW he’d bought and customized at the factory somewhere in Germany and had shipped over. The first day I got to drive that one, the Secret Service was at the Club, and I had to drive the car a bit longer than I normally would have.
It was the most comfortable automobile seat—and possibly the most comfortable seat of any sort—I’ve ever sat in. It felt like my buttocks were being cradled in two huge, soft, yet firm, hands. I never wanted to get out of that car.
That’s sort of how I felt when I sat in the ’Vette those many years ago. Unfortunately, I had to get out of the car, as there was a long line of people who were waiting to get in as well. The seat just seamed to fit like a glove.

Tell me about it. The doctor DROPPED the damned shard down my gullet, shrugged, and told mom to let him know if I passed blood later and sent me home with her, still stoned out of mind.
My poor mom had to get me home by herself, and at the time, I was at my adult height and weighed 140lbs. AND I was hallucinating by the time she got me in the door of our house.
Fun times.

Okay, once in college when I was 17, I was in a room with a bunch of people doing pot, but I had to flee because, in under ten minutes, I had the WORST headache of my life. I felt like someone was ripping my head apart from the top.
That pretty much killed any idea of trying out drugs.
There's always more to learn about Hockey.
I’ve hung out with some people who were smoking pot, but wasn’t in a room or anything. My main bad habit is drinking – which I try to keep to 1 or 2 drinks a day.

According to the strict scientific definition, sure it is. So is aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, and anything you get from the doctor’s office. I’m not using that definition though – I’m using the common, everyday definition.
Failure is always an option.
I think it qualifies for the common, everyday definition, too.
Eat, drink, and be merry! And then drink some more.

afternoon, folks.
I can’t tell you how great it feels getting up at 10:30 after several days of getting up on military time.
had a great start to the week, though. I was in annapolis for a conference at the Naval Academy. Met a bunch of really cool folks, discovered good cigars are awesome, had good seafood and beer, bought a dapper-ass hat, and found this really cool Soviet artifact at an old book store.

Lunch time here in Minneapolis. I’m eating some soup to soothe the throat.
I slept from 9:30 to about 6, but the cold or perhaps a bit more than a cold still has me down. I’m falling behind on work. I can’t go home and rest. Just an awful feeling.
At least posting about Sasha Gray kept my spirits up.

Ah, laser-focused grad students
So, I was talking to one of the grad-student friends of mine (the one who wanders the halls carrying potentially cancer-causing materials for experiments), and he’s been so buried in his education, he had never heard the Ted Stevens meme about the ‘internet is a series of tubes’.
There's always more to learn about Hockey.
Scarily enough… that was 5 years ago and Ted Stevens has been dead for over a year.
That’s a lifetime for an Internet meme.
P.S. I just looked up All Your Base; it’s been so long, I’ve forgotten the entire thing.
O_o
That’s not even a recent thing, either.
I’m guessing he’s clueless about the more recent ones that have sprung into being either. Like the Chuck Testa meme, or Anti-joke Chicken, or Socially Awkward Penguin, or Foul Bachelor Frog, etc., etc.

I guarantee you he is. It’s kind of cute. Like he’s a lost tribe kind of person on the digital frontier.
There's always more to learn about Hockey.
I’m in IT which people automatically assume means I know all these things but the reality is that if it’s not technical or in the news I am probably unaware. I spend 9+ hours a day working on computers, I will browse some news sites and some sports at work but outside of the rink I’m pretty much not on the web unless it’s research for work. When I get home I basically check Fark a couple other sites and that’s it. I try to spend as little time on the computer at home as I can since I am burnt out by the time I get home.
I knew the series of tubes things due to the technical nature of it but I have no idea what Anti-joke Chicken, or Socially Awkward Penguin, or Foul Bachelor Frog are
I feel terrible for saying this. But I honestly have no clue what you are talking about.
But then my friends routinely think I must not live on this planet. I don’t understand ANYTHING pop-culture or memes or anything like that. Ever.

he broke into the league in Detroit, and had some high expectations. He’s been traded about a billion times since. All promise, no delivery.

sorry, he broke in the Dodgers. Detroit’s just where he had something approaching success.
Interestingly enough, he was born in Germany.
The Nats are his 7th team

he’s wildly inconsistent. but every GM seems to think he’ll finally get it together with their team, so they want him, and the team that’s trading him knows they can package him with another piece and get a nice return. He tends to end up on poorly performing teams who then trade him to a contender as well. He went from the Diamondbacks to White Sox at one point (when the D’backs were baaaaad), and then this season he went from the bad White Sox to the much better Cardinals, who were looking for pitching support for the playoff push.

He actually went from the ChiSox to the Jays who traded him 2 hours later to the Cardinals in the trade to get Colby Rasmus ;)
I wasn’t even going to try to explain the bizareness that was that trade!

Might as well have re-signed Livo for that. Nats now have 7 guys for 5 SP positions, four of which are likely spoken for. And Lannan is making 5 mil as the guy that was likely to be the fifth.

Livo signed a minor deal with the Astros. Which makes me incredibly sad.
