Good morning and happy Mid-Week everybody.

Right back atcha, Bath.

As you can tell by how early this reply is, I am back at work today.

Good morning to all.

Looks like I left the OT Hockey thread a tad too early last night. Just catching up on the exchange between Birdie, Aliceanna and Emily. Ho-boy. Didn’t realize what I had started. ;)

I innocuously said something about hockey players and their Valentine’s tweets. They were cute, although some perhaps a little TMI. Like, maybe you should keep them private. Unlike some other folks, I didn’t follow them back to the recipients and the exchange. Apparently, Holtby’s girlfriend is expecting. I don’t particularly find this to be particularly scandalous, he’s not underage, and some folks just don’t feel the need to get married first. Assuming things are planned, of course.

For the record, Vogel has been a little too gushy in public tweets at times, and he’s far older than the players.

I don’t think it’s scandalous at all! Just a little surprising, and her comments on the matter on Twitter were distasteful to me, personally, and examples of just the sort of thing I don’t want to see on Twitter. However, I’m a child-free person who is sorta squeamish about people discussing their pregnancies in any detail anywhere (hate the term “baby bump,” for example, and would be delighted if no one ever uttered those words again), so that explains where I’m coming from on it.

What has Vogel been gushy about?

I still haven’t read her twitter. She’s essentially a nobody, I don’t need to read what she says. If she’s tweeting back and forth with friends (when you start a tweet with @name), it’s only going to show up if you follow the recipient as well, or if you click on their profile page.

Just saying that criticizing her tweets is probably not necessary. On the other hand, anything that’s online is public, and you probably should watch what or how you say things. Twitter, facebook, etc. It can come back to bite you.

Mornin’ all. Trying to get in earlier now for a couple of reasons. 1) Boss isn’t in this early usually (today’s no exception), and 2) There’s construction going to be happening near where I work and the Powers That Be are slowly removing long-term parking at the facility I use, so I want to be sure I have a place to park before I need to find a different garage.

TPTB are doing this to add some new building or something and will eventually add more parking, but for the time being, it’s gonna be a massive headache.

Dreaming

I woke up from a dream where I had sort of a parachute/para-sail thing and a snowboard on my feet and I was letting the air catch the chute, lift me twenty or so feet in the air, then drift down onto grass wet from morning sprinklers, and ‘surf/skiing’ on it, being dragged by air in the chute. It was on the grassy open space at my undergraduate college one early morning.

I can’t remember the last time I had a dream that was that fun.

Incidentally, the addendum to this rule for me is to not address something immediately if I’m unreasonably pissed. Sometimes it does help to take a step back and think about what you want to say.

Example, a friend of mine has been saying things to me lately that have been upsetting. The first time, I put it down to him being thoughtless. The second time, I figured he was trying to tell me something. Third time, that’s it, I got the message, I don’t need this to continue.

So I composed an email calmly pointing out the offending topic, explaining why it isn’t cool to keep bringing it up, and asking him to please desist. We’ll see how that goes.

I think it does. I used to be just about fluent in German (4 years of German in HS will do that) and I got the trial and went through the German part to see if it would work and it made a lot of sense how they taught it, if that makes sense.

I’m sure there are a bunch of used copies available if you look too.

I’m really thinking about it. My wife is fluent in Spanish already, and it would be cool if we could talk in a language her father and his wife don’t understand, since they break out in Polish and French all the time and we can’t understand it.

we got it for Spanish as well. My daughter is in a Spanish immersion program in kindergarten where 1/2 of her day is only in Spanish (math and science) and that will continue through HS if she wants to but at the very least through 6th grade. Anyways we need it so we can understand what the hell she’s saying to us and so we can read her homework.

My brother did this same program except for Japanese. It was amazing how much he learned since kids’ brains learn languages so differently (actually goes to the language center instead of the memory center).

The school district here offers Spanish or Mandarin Chinese but the Mandarin was on the other side of town which would have been a nightmare to try and do. The Spanish program is luckily at her regular elementary school so it was an easy choice.

Hi BB. I counter with The Song That Doesn’t End, it just goes on and on my friend. Some people started singing it not knowing what it was, and they’ll continue singing it forever just because this is the Song that doesn’t end, it just goes on and on my friend…

NEW CASTLE, Pa. (AP) — Firefighters in Pennsylvania have managed to save 200 pounds of Polish sausage from what they’re calling the best-smelling fire they’ve doused in years.

The New Castle News reports that firefighters responded about 11:30 a.m. Monday when a 20-by-20-foot smokehouse caught fire in the yard of Cash Koszela (koh-ZEL’-uh). He’s a retired meat cutter who’s been smoking his own sausage for about 30 years.
Firefighters say some grease caught fire when the smokehouse got too hot — about 300 degrees.
Koszela says it will cost about $3,000 to replace the smokehouse. It’s actually a tin-lined walk-in cooler fed by smoke piped in from a fire pit.
Assistant Fire Chief David Joseph says, “This is definitely the best-smelling fire we’ve seen in a long time.”

how could you focus on putting out a fire that smelled that good.

by Beakers Lab on Feb 15, 2012 2:57 PM EST up reply actions

By hoping you get a smoked sausage if you put it out in time?

I’ve been a few times and it’s always been well-run top to bottom without too many aggressive yokels. Last game attended the Caps got shut out and I was on the receiving end of a few sympathetic looks sitting there in my Backstrom jersey. Decent, if uninspiring, beer selection that is best on the lower and top levels without huge lines.

Dingos are involved. Best not to ask.

my initial reaction to naming a restaurant Heart Attack Grill is one of apathy but a part of me says you wouldn’t name a restaurant Julia’s AIDS Buffet or Pancreatic Cancer Cafe

I mean, heart attacks are shitty things that kill people, you know?
