On the plus side, the Caps have only allowed one goal on a shot taken from inside their defensive zone in the last seven periods. On the minus side... the two they've given up from outside. 1-0 Sharks, second period ahead...

I don’t get why any team in the Caps’ position would add at the deadline. Generally adding requires moving assets that help in the future, and if you’re in the Caps’ position you won’t be challenging for the Cup. And if you’re not challenging for the Cup it makes no sense to sell of the future for now.

I can only see them adding if it is a move for next season – for example, trading Schultz or Semin for a player on a multi-year contract.
Failure is always an option.
I still count that as selling if its obvious for the following year.

If they’re moving Schultz/Semin or someone like that I hardly think it will be considered buying. At most it will be considered a mutual benefit trade, but most likely it will be considered selling.

I gotta think Ovechkin was still the right call, draft-wise. He’s been a huge reason for the resurgence of hockey in DC, and I’m not sure Malkin has the charisma or personality to accomplish the same thing.
Now, whether signing Ovie to a 13-year extension was the right call is a whole ’nother debate entirely.
