Gill
If the Montreal Canadiens start unloading their UFAs, does anyone think the Caps should make an attempt for Hal Gill? What would it cost? I would assume that Schultz would have to be involved since they have similar cap hits.

Dale Hunter likes to play man-to-man defensive schemes with a lot of motion. Gill would probably not fit in with those schemes so I don’t see a move being made here to bring Gill in.

…Gill, like Hamrlik, was reasonably successful in Montreal in the spring of 2010…

Yes, but they weren’t playing for Dale Hunter in a man-to-man style defense. The Habs played a zone defense then and still do.

Then what has Hamrlik talking about with Hunter’s system being similar to what he played in Montreal?

Well, systems people could spot it more easily than can. But what Johnson has said is that It’s not strictly man-to-man. It’s situational and the guys have zonal defensive responsibilities as well.

I think Gill would be a poor choice, given Hunter’s system and who he tends to sit.
Failure is always an option.
That’s the opinion I’ve been seeing from Caps fans. I was checking stuff at Spector’s Hockey and many of the people commenting there were speaking highly of Gill so I figured I’d see what the Jaspers’ Rink community had to say.
