People pouting about Ovechkin “pouting” is causing me to pout.
No, causing me to see what a bunch of addlepated, headline-seeking, lazy scribblers they are that just use caricatures of Ovechkin instead of creating a worthwhile story about the ASG
Stu Cowan’s article wants Ovechkin (and Thomas) to look to Ali as a role model.
It seems Mr. Cowan has selctive amnesia about Mr. Ali. Ali was a blowhard and self-promotion machine that called Frazier a gorilla. I’dl like Ovechkin to go around calling himself the greatest and denigrating opponents, and see how the Montreal Gazette likes that.

Writers quote Ovechkin calling BB a , “Fat f___” I saw the video and don’t know what he said. Has it been verified somewhere?

Green Location
And here is a picture of where Mike Green is at. I know it was posted yesterday on this site somewhere but, if folks here wanted links to his location from today’s comments, here goes.

oh god, flashbacks to the Olympic opening ceremonies discussion……

Columbus got the 2013 All Star Game. Bet TEB is just thrilled about that.

Why? Post won’t send anyone to cover it if Ovi’s not there.

If the NHL doesn’t want to play another game outdoors for fear of detracting from the Winter Classic, at least pick a place with more panache than say, Kanata, Ont., or Raleigh, N.C.
Media members who bailed on a trip to Ottawa (full disclosure: The Post is guilty of pulling the chute after Ovechkin withdrew) would double down for a trip to Sin City. I confirmed this with an informal poll in the Verizon Center press box Tuesday night.

I saw that and wondered. Sorry to anyone here from Columbus, but I interviewed in for a job in Columbus in January several years back and it was freaking freezing. I also didn’t care for the city very much. Not exactly the most exciting location. I agree with TEB that the ASG should be in more exciting cities. I just read a Portzline article saying:
In the past, the NHL would not approve Columbus as a host for the game because the area around Nationwide Arena lacked a sufficient number of high-end hotel rooms needed to house sponsors, celebrities, players, etc. But a 500-room Hilton, being built just blocks from Nationwide Arena, is planned for completion by Sept. 2012, a month before the 2012-13 season opens.
Sounds like Columbus just barely passes the requirements with one high end hotel just barely being completed in time.

They better pray there aren’t any construction delays.

Dammit, Hawks landed Morrison? (guess they need all the help they can get, with those 5 contenders in the West and LA trying to join in)

I believe in next year.
Of all the one year contracts to come through DC recently, Brendan Morrison is absolutely my favorite.

So Dennis Wideman isn’t in the shootout competition? Boo.

Wysh just tweeted that the commisioner said fans give the shootout a “70/80 %” approval rating. If they could guarantee this would happen, count me in.

OMG, I’ve never seen that one!
"The Caps fan doesn't say, 'is the glass half full' or 'is the glass half empty'. He wonders when the glass is going to spill."
I know the fact is if Crosby plays one game in the playoffs, he’ll be handed the Masterton Trophy, but 6 surgeries in 10 days, a ruptured femoral artery, and now on pace for a 68 point season? Wideman’s got to at least be nominated.

that’s just completely nuts. And a stay in the ICU, too. How many guys go from the ICU to the ASG?
Wideman will be the Capitals nomination, no doubt. he should win the whole damn thing.

On the assumptions that Greenie is re-signed and can return to 100% productivity (how is that for BIG assumptions?), does GMGM go after Wides? If so, would it take $5 Million? Less? More?
by Wilderthing on Jan 28, 2012 12:41 PM EST up reply actions
I find it hard to believe Green will ever return to playing a large amount of games. Without Green or Wideman, I think the Caps lack a puck moving D. I would be in favor of re-signing Wideman if it doesn’t require an obscene amount.
by vtcapsfan99 on Jan 28, 2012 12:47 PM EST up reply actions
I agree, particularly with what appears to be a (I hope) temporary regression with Carlson’s play. So, I guess the issue comes down to how we define ‘obscene.’
by Wilderthing on Jan 28, 2012 12:51 PM EST up reply actions
In all honesty, if I had to choose between the two of them, I’d take Wideman at the moment, given Green’s fragility.

I’m almost certain Wideman will be the Caps nominee for the Masterton, but just as certain that it will go to either Crosby or David Perron.

I keep hearing this name Crosby, but I don’t know who he is, I’ve been watching hockey all yaer and haven’t seen him play. Where can I see this juggernaut?

So I know the suspension has already been beaten to death (and then some) but I just discovered Hockey Gifs and the one of Kesler getting Kronwall’d I found interesting

Obviously not “malicious” as OV’s was but looks like he “lept” into that one a bit… Also, the jump-and-turn hit?? What’s up with that. Kesler definitely had his head down and deserved to get wrecked though. Can’t believe no one on the bench gave him a heads up or he just didn’t hear them.
The safe word will be "hwiskey"
Kronwall is a dirty fucker, regardless of what those crazy Wings fans will have you believe.

Alzner in NY Picture
While Alzner has tweeted pictures of himself in NY City. He and his girlfriend were skating there today. They also went to the Bronx Zoo and talked about seeing the Polar Bears. Picture of Alzner and girlfriend:

Alright guys, don’t flame me for this or anything. But why do you all care about what the players are doing while they are on their break? I know they’ve tweeted the pictures so they are for the public to see, but I couldn’t care less about what they do on their time. Just my opinion but I don’t really see what this has to do with hockey.

One man's trash...
I get a kick out of seeing the professional players and how they spend their time. I think it’s easy to forget they are human. Take Alzner here. I laughed about his silly skates and that the other tourists were unaware that a pro was in their midst. Also, while the rest of the guys go to the beach, he goes ice skating. HAH!
Fun for me.

I did admittedly laugh at his skates earlier today.

I’ll admit I’m a sucker for stories on what the guys do in their off time (as well as a guilty party for posting the pics.)
Speaking of skating, I heard about the time last year when Eric Fehr took his niece (or was it his nephew) to skate at the public skate session at Kettler.

I hope you didn’t think I was calling you out since you were the only one posting pics in this thread. It was just a generality…
