Besides AHL players?

Snark aside – Only two of the current players, if I get this right, have spent time in the AHL this year – 50 and 81. All the rest are NHL players.
Nice guys finish first, but sometimes the season is awfully long.

Yeah. I mean, no team can reasonably expect to be at it’s best when missing its 3 best players. But it really highlights the Caps lack of (scoring) depth to see a top line of Semin, Mackan and Perrault.

I think this is they key point. The Pens went through a six-game losing streak without Crosby, Letang and Staal. It happens. They had Geno.
But I think many teams would be in the same state as the Caps with their three best players missing. What would the Wings be without Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Lidstrom; or the Blues without Backes, Oshie and Pieterangelo; or the Kings without Kopitar, Richards, and Doughty. Few teams can survive this without a massive slack off.

Although for the teams listed (except the Kings), they’d likely fall from elite performance to mediocre. They are, at this point, better positioned to handle a stretch of poor play than the Caps are.

by Steckel Me Elmo on Jan 24, 2012 5:45 PM EST up reply actions
Really? Without Backes and Oshie, the top line for the Blues would probably be Perron, Berglund and Stewart? Perron, Langenbrunner and Arnott?
Without Datsyuk and Zetterberg, the Wings would have Fillpula as their 1C?
I’m not suggesting that 28-85-90 is a spectacular line, but I don’t think the Caps are any worse than any other team that loses their top 2 forwards.

When I said they were in a better position, I meant from a standings perspective; they’ve built up a security blanket of points to be able to handle a cold streak.
That said, I do think Detroit’s alternative is better. And St. Louis’ is pretty even.

I certainly agree with the perspective of accumulating points. Not a good time for the Caps to lose 19, 8, and 52.

As has been said before, we’re now going to see a bit what the team is made of. Sometimes, when the stars are missing and can’t be relied on, others step up. Underdog status fits some people well. Expectations couldn’t be lower.
Time to beat the Stanley Cup champs and go into the All-Star break on a high.

Time for a good healthy dose of Us Against Them…them being the Bruins, the h8rs and the National Hypocrisy League….let’s go boys: if there was EVER some fury to be released (and a glowing opportunity to internalize the Hunter way) it is this evening. I, for one, am ready to Rock.

Not sure we know yet. The Bruins don’t make their starting goalie available for questions the day of games and both TT and Rask were unavailable
I thought I saw someone tweet that Thomas was in, this after someone else suggested he wasn’t, so go figure.
OK, I’m out, headed to Verizon. Here we go….
Let’s Go Caps!

Everything I have read on the internet today has indicated it’s TT. So who knows.

Saw earlier that they weren’t playing TT because they were afraid of him being booed. Also saw that if the fans in Boston boo him the B’s are taking about possibly trading him. Seems crazy but who knows.
