Second Period Open Thread

That's just about the best period of hockey we've seen from the Caps. Beautiful goals from Perreault and Johansson have the Caps up 2 after 1.

Beautiful goals? You are a flaming homer.

But did you note the beautiful breakout on MP’s goal? Yeah? Tape to tape, quick passes and bang we’re entering the zone with speed? Didja?

Perreault’s shot was pretty awesome, I don’t think it’s homerific to say.

Heh. Mojo’s goal was a brutal misplay by Price on a changeup lobbed in a good location.

MP’s was a nice shot, but should probably be stopped.

And best period we’ve seen? 4 shots says no.

agree. there wasn’t much sustained pressure, and the now-typical 5 SOG. the goals were nice, but they’ve played better.

A few more things, Caps are using LTIR cap space so carrying Kundratek on the roster for an extra game isn’t impact the cap situation in terms of not banking cap space. Kundratek is on his ELC so no worries about games on NHL roster and waivers at this time.

Right, but he’s on a two-way, which is why I couched it as free money from the owner. It doesn’t matter to me one way or the other, I just think it’s odd (then again, he’s not ahead of 4 and 55 on my personal depth chart but Coach Hunter might not agree with me).

As far as money, they’ve paid plenty more out for players to play in the AHL the last few years, plus Schultz sitting in the pressbox compared to 1 or 2 extra days of Kundratek. As to IF they knew they were playing Erskine why didn’t they send him down, not sure, it wouldn’t have surprised me if they had. Cole and Hendy collided knee on knee

by Rather Bengt on Jan 18, 2012 9:09 PM EST reply actions

Cole won’t fight, but Erskine should ask anyway.

Someone end this fucking period now!

Dingos are involved. Best not to ask.

Nah, just a slow typist. I have the pleasure to be watching this on CSN+ with many of you.

Anyone see what happened?

He was straddling blue line and Cole came by and they went knee to knee hard to tell from zoomed in replay if they even saw each other.

by icehammer97 on Jan 18, 2012 9:11 PM EST up reply actions

If anyone is responsible it was Cole, Hendricks was looking up-ice and got blindsided.

by Artwo on Jan 18, 2012 9:13 PM EST up reply actions

Steckled through and through. I think Cole and Bourque both need to shed bloody tears.
Heh.
Not really though.

If Hendy’s out, I want someone to send Erskine out to avenge this.

by creasemonkey on Jan 18, 2012 9:10 PM EST reply actions

Didn’t look intentional did it?

Unintentional…just a collision

by Rather Bengt on Jan 18, 2012 9:12 PM EST up reply actions

Thought the same, but after watching it a few times and seeing 2 angles, what the H was Cole doing?

by sk84fun_dc on Jan 18, 2012 9:13 PM EST up reply actions

Probably trying to draw a penalty.

Looked like trying to stay onside.

Which DC sports team has the Most Valuable Players? That would be DC United, a team being pushed out by the city. Help Keep United in DC so they can receive a fair deal on a lease and help develop a path to build a stadium with local investment and incentives.

oh. is that why he was sticking his leg out? hmm.

As his other leg was 3 feet in the zone, yeah.

Cole clipped Henrdicks. Mother fuckers. Can another team get hurt from playing Caps instead of the other way around?

Sure, but usually Ovi ends up suspended when that happens.

by brooksengr on Jan 18, 2012 9:12 PM EST up reply actions

Saw the replay (thanks to J.P.‘s tweet) and I think Cole knew what he was doing. Leg was out more than it would naturally be (stuck it out it seemed) and had to know the play was coming his way.
Fuck’em.

Looked like he was trying to stay onside and was holding the leg out to hold the blueline.
