Second Period Open Thread
That's just about the best period of hockey we've seen from the Caps. Beautiful goals from Perreault and Johansson have the Caps up 2 after 1.

Beautiful goals? You are a flaming homer.
But did you note the beautiful breakout on MP’s goal? Yeah? Tape to tape, quick passes and bang we’re entering the zone with speed? Didja?

Perreault’s shot was pretty awesome, I don’t think it’s homerific to say.

Heh. Mojo’s goal was a brutal misplay by Price on a changeup lobbed in a good location.
MP’s was a nice shot, but should probably be stopped.
And best period we’ve seen? 4 shots says no.

I was a big fan of the Alan May between the glass. We need more of that.

I have no problem with it … That was good stuff with Brouwer and MoJo denying clear look at OV’s shot. There’s no question OV can be effective at the point provided his teammates commit to getting the opposing players to back off from putting pressure on the point men while creating legit traffic in front of the net. Well executed play.

doesn’t he usually? He’s not as much of a puck handler as Holtby or Vokes, I don’t think
by HockeyDragon on Jan 18, 2012 8:58 PM EST up reply actions
Earlier in the season, he was trying to come out of the crease a la Vokes. It looked like maybe the goalie coaches were trying to get him to be more aggressive. It’s just not a good style for Neuvy.

Not yet, for him. Seems like the veterans are better at that stuff.

He’s seems so much more solid on his skates, which I guess is attributable to the style differences, though I do tend to feel a little less cardiac with that stability.
Dingos are involved. Best not to ask.
GoalieGuild calls him The Great Deceiver for his seeming lack of movement, and is praising him again on Twitter.
Montreal announcers said that 2 of the goals have come off Marjo draws. If that is true, then that plus his own goal makes him one of the stars in my book.
Why healthy scratch Kundratek instead of sending him back down? Ted in the business of giving out free money?
Eat, drink, and be merry! And then drink some more.
They’ll keep him along for the roadie.

by arlingtonOsFan on Jan 18, 2012 9:04 PM EST up reply actions
Like others, I assume to give him the one roadtrip, Hershey plays in Binghamton on Friday, but I assume he’ll travel to Carolina with the Caps. Still possible he’s re-assigned soon.
A few more things, Caps are using LTIR cap space so carrying Kundratek on the roster for an extra game isn’t impact the cap situation in terms of not banking cap space. Kundratek is on his ELC so no worries about games on NHL roster and waivers at this time.
Right, but he’s on a two-way, which is why I couched it as free money from the owner. It doesn’t matter to me one way or the other, I just think it’s odd (then again, he’s not ahead of 4 and 55 on my personal depth chart but Coach Hunter might not agree with me).
Eat, drink, and be merry! And then drink some more.
As far as money, they’ve paid plenty more out for players to play in the AHL the last few years, plus Schultz sitting in the pressbox compared to 1 or 2 extra days of Kundratek. As to IF they knew they were playing Erskine why didn’t they send him down, not sure, it wouldn’t have surprised me if they had. Possible working on a trade or concerned about injury and wanted another extra dman?
Sound like a NHL.com headline: Stone Cole Neuvy.

Saw the replay (thanks to J.P.‘s tweet) and I think Cole knew what he was doing. Leg was out more than it would naturally be (stuck it out it seemed) and had to know the play was coming his way.
