Embarrassing
Awful turnovers, OV cherry picking, another pathetic performance. Caps have been fortunate the last few games but have generated way too little offense.
Also hearing people boo the first PP of the game is embarrassing, just like our perception across the NHL – fair weather and uneducated fan base.

I don’t know, I don’t have a problem booing uninspired play.

Then boo in the 3rd period or at intermission not at the end of a PP.
by bigcrabcake on Jan 17, 2012 9:26 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Boo whenever the fuck you want. I’m tired of the “rules” we have to live by in what we cheer about to when we boo. They have played at a shit level for a year now and when the fans knowingly see it happening again they can boo all the fuck they want.
Don’t want a god damn boo? Shoot the puck and score.
"One of the most difficult things everyone has to learn is that for your entire life you must keep fighting and adjusting if you hope to survive." -George Allen
Do you boo at Skins games when Rex or Beck throw picks? Do you boo when they get sacked? Shit happens during a game, act like you know what the fuck is going on and reserve judgement until the intermission.
by bigcrabcake on Jan 17, 2012 9:38 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
shigata ga nai ne
I personally can’t remember booing at anything except a bad ref call at the Caps’ game, but I would have no trouble booing Rex or the Redskins after a lackluster bunch of games and then an int. Something akin to that Philly blowout last year or the 4th pick by Rex in a game. Sure, boo.
I didn’t see the game to know what the fans were doing, but I think if the Caps were playing like it sounded like they were playing, a boo might do what a cheer would have otherwise, fire them up.
Very often it seems some here like to point out about how long they’ve been fans, they have all the cool jerseys, they know the precise cheers allowed by hallowed hall of famers, and it wears thin.
You can’t control the fans. Who ARE fans just as much as any in the NHL. I don’t know who is packing the seats though, since no one I know, and surely not your nor I, would ever do such dishonorable things.
Go Caps.

Are they ever inspired as of late? For fucks sake. This shit islander team should be down by two; not up by two.
Anyway, I’m not even watching it. Just listening a little, reading the posts and seeing the scoreboard. Where is Ovi and Semin and every other SOB on the team?
"One of the most difficult things everyone has to learn is that for your entire life you must keep fighting and adjusting if you hope to survive." -George Allen
10 SOG through 2 is just flat embarrassing. When the isles scored their second I debated turning the game off. Caps under DH are not much fun to watch. DH needs to change his system a bit because 20 SOG/game just won’t get it done
Why the hell does he not get it? Can I just hear him say once that they need to get shots on net? Or see it happening would be even better.

I don’t blame the boo birds for coming out earlier. There’s no problem with losing, its just losing to sub-par opponents from pure lack of effort, not anything extraordinary on NYI’s part.

I’m not going to lie, my optimism is being tested under Hunter. If they can’t figure out a way to put double digit SOG per period this is going to be a long, potentially very ugly, second half of the season
I fear they’ll make it through the second half, only to ONCE AGAIN get to April and look like wide-eyed mites from Colorado taking on the Red Wings.

Question: are we saving cap room with Green on LTIR? Can we put Backs on LTIR and save more cap room? Maybe this is a strategy. Put half the team on LTIR to clear a bunch of cap space, sign a bunch of monster free agents at the trading deadline, bring everyone back on board and go into the REAL season with a stacked roster.
"If I knew then what I know now, that woulda messed it up somehow" - Roy Drusky
Free agents + trading deadline = no comprende
I was trained to mix concrete and sign complicated insurance forms.
Fine, you know what I mean, make some trades for players with big cap hits that we could then afford
"If I knew then what I know now, that woulda messed it up somehow" - Roy Drusky
This team won’t go far without Green and Backstrom.
I was trained to mix concrete and sign complicated insurance forms.
Agreed, but I’m talking about putting him on LTIR the way we did with Green, assuming that we can bring him back for the playoffs. Or does LTIR mean he’s out for the season?

Via Wikipedia:
A player who has an injury that renders him physically unable to play for a minimum of seven days after that date of the injury can be placed on the Club’s Injured Reserve List. Once a player is placed on the list, the Club may replace said player on its NHL roster with another player. All determinations that a player has suffered an injury warranting injured reserve status must be made by the Club’s medical staff and in accordance with the Club’s medical standards.
A player placed on Injured Reserve is ineligible to compete in NHL games for a period of not less than seven days.

I wonder what Hunter will say tonight. My guess is that he doesn’t dwell on it, but tells them to forget about it and move on. Coaching is such a psychological thing. Can’t light into the team, knowing that they have to play in less than 24 hours. Fact is that they threw out a clunker tonight. I’m not ready to go all apocalyptic or anything either.
My guess is that he tells them to pack up and the next time he talks to them is in the pre-game in the hotel. One can only hope that Knubles or Laich or someone stands up to talkk.

Total shit. Run the goalie just to make it fun.

It’s a bad sign in my opinion when you’re one win away from taking the 3 seed and battling with Pittsburgh and whoever else for a seed in general and you show up to a very winnable game like this..
Dale Hunter hasn’t changed the guard if you ask me.
Maybe Mike Green isn’t the one that needs gut surgery.

So where is the wrath directed now? Can’t fire the coach. Can’t complain about injuries – they are what they are and we’re in better shape than some other teams. Won’t be a trade of a superstar, and that’s not the right move either.
This is disappointing, but it’s also only one game. And, we’re in a better spot standing wise than we’ve been in a long time.

Just the same stuff is so frustrating. Not losing from being outplayed necessarily, just pure lack of effort. Game in, game out. I think most of the past wins have been more luck than great or even good hockey. What’s the saying? To repeat the same actions and expect different results is madness?

The fire the coach mantra isn’t available any longer, so no one has solutions. I’m not one that likes bitching without solutions. Frankly, I don’t have a solution either. I have never been and never will support sitting your best players to teach them a lesson. Making a massive trade isn’t right, IMO. The team needs to figure it out.
I’ve been a broken records that firing a coach isn’t a recipe to win the Cup. It’s recognition that the long term wasn’t working. I have zero expectations for this team once that happened. Boudreau was their best option to win the Cup, not Hunter.
All I have is patience, because there is no real other solution.

Because the first thing on a player’s mind with two minutes and change left in a 3-0 deficit is to draw a penalty call.
