The video clip doesn’t seem to do full justice to the Ovechkin hit. During the commercial break, CSN was working on the clip, running it back and forth, starting with him wiping out, which doesn’t show in the clip. I got to enjoy watching it several times on the press box screens.

The official...
The official is lucky he didn’t catch a skate blade from Ruutu on that play. Ruutu damn near hamstrung him.

The Washington Capitals are looking to move Jeff Schultz, a sturdy blue-liner but with semi-slow feet.
Question is: what would they get back?

5th round pick. /Keeley’d
Or an in-contract forward and a pick which I’d presume would be the most likely scenario.

Well the Caps may take an expiring contract in the hopes of betterment and get a pick thrown in as a favor from the other team? Other than that, I got nothing.

Also:
He’s a gentle giant; hardly any penalty minutes, like a Hal Gill.

Both Schultz and Gill are students of the game and are very good at positioning. They know where they should be in most cases, but sometimes have trouble getting there. Both have to play in a zone defensive scheme and will have trouble in a man-to-man defense like Hunter likes…

We managed to get a 1st rounder when we traded Steve Eminger, another young Caps defenseman who was having a log of pressbox duty.
Rocking the Red for teams on the banks of the Potomac and at the Gateway Arch and Singing the Blues about Hockey.
IIRC Eminger had more offensive upside than Schultz…sometimes that pays. Though I’m sure there’s a GM out there that’ll pay a pretty penny for Schultz based on his size alone….think MLB player that has power but strikes out a ton.
I was looking at the +/- stats and wasn’t surprised that Ovi is -7.
But Brooks is also -7, and Knuble is -9!
With Ovi I always figure it is his high risk/reward style that leads to goals against. For Brooks and Knuble, is this an indication of their playing more defensive minutes on the penalty kill? Lack of their driving the offensive play? Is this stat even meaningful?
(Chimera, Halpern and Ward are all +6 or +7…)
I think it’s different for the two players. For Laich, it reflects him getting brutal ES assignments. He’s in the top 20 in Corsi Rel QOC, so he’s facing a lot of tough competition.
Knuble’s faced average competition, so he doesn’t have that excuse. I think Knuble’s playing a bit better now (he’s always been a slow starter) but my explanation for his +/- is that he just wasn’t playing very well through most of the season.
Also, +/- is a deeply flawed stat…

I would have guessed they were close, with a slight advantage to Carolina at evens. But this doesn’t surprise me much. They really did take a large number of low probability shots.

tilted a little bit towards Car but the 13-13 at 5v5 is encouraging. Again seems like Car just threw a lot of rubber on net hoping for a goal compared to the Caps taking fewer shots but higher quality shots.

On the other hand, Carolina is one of the worst possession teams in the league, and on the second leg of a B2B. That would be like tying Anaheim or Minnesota in scoring chances.

It has been noted before but the strategy under DH seems to be to reduce each game to a coin flip and hope to come out on top.

Well, individual game results are essentially a coin flip to start with. You can, however, weight the coin by generating more chances than the opponent.
In the past the Caps have dramatically outchanced the opposition. This year, under DH, they aren’t. That’s what makes me nervous.
Anyhow, the Caps are basically a mediocre team right now and I anticipate they will get mediocre results the rest of the way. Fortunately for them and us, FLA is also a mediocre team, so it probably remains a dogfight down the stretch to see who takes the Division.

The Caps’ game from 07-10 is commonly referred to as “run and gun” but that’s not the same as “trading chances.” The Caps were a top-5 possession team in 07-08 and 08-09, so I highly doubt they were trading chances. In 09-10, they were one of the best shot quality-controlling teams, though perhaps trading chances a little more than in the past two years.

Randoms ASG conversation
I was doing a little reading on the NHL all star game today. I was just trying to find the date and ended up reading the wiki on the history of it. Looks like back in the day (pre 1947) it wasn’t a regular thing. Before that the only “all star” games were random benefit games.
Does anyone know if the ASG uses any proceeds for benefits/charities nowadays?
it’s a money-making venture for the NHL these days. Whatever team and city hosts gets some nice money as well.
when I went to the Minnesota-hosted game, you could “donate” $5 to Children’s Miracle Network to have your picture taken with the Stanley Cup. that’s probably the most charity-focused aspect of the ASG these day.

but the goal was disallowed after video review showed Laich had interfered with Ward during the play.
That’s not accurate. The referees decided on the ice that there was interference. Interference cannot be established via video. At least that’s my understanding.

Yea I mean that was my gripe with it…it was ruled a goal on the ice….if it was GI it should have been called at the time of the shot…I hate that like I hate matching minors for tripping/diving

Whyno said that the two referees disagreed; the closer one thought it was a goal (and so indicated) while the further referee washed it out due to incidental contact. Apparently, when the two refs disagree, they can call up Toronto and ask for them to rule.
Reporter: "What’s your Mom’s birthday?"
Tortorella: "I have no idea."
No way. Really?
Where is the video of the second referee washing out the goal?

Let’s ask Knuble:
"Something wasn’t making sense there," alternate captain Mike Knuble said. "I had to ask them in a commercial break what was happening. I just didn’t get the flow, it just didn’t sound right the way the system works. For it to be called a goal on the ice, he said they overruled it on the ice. Then Toronto’s calling and I don’t get it."
"Money talks. I listen."
I should have kept the recording. I want to look over it again.
So was it one of those issues where they said the goal was disallowed because of GI, but if that was the case then technically they should have called a GI penalty, but didn’t?
No – you can have incidental contact that wipes off a goal without a penalty. Remember Ovi’s goal against the Pens in the Winter Classic? Same thing.
The odd thing here was that the referee close to the play signaled goal and didn’t give a wash out signal. The refs and linesmen got together, and I give them credit for that, and discussed. Out of that came the incidental contact.
My guess is that they went to Toronto to check if it went of Laich’s glove, but simultaneously ruled incidental contact, making the call to Toronto irrelevant.
Nice guys finish first, but sometimes the season is awfully long.

I’m not willing to give the refs any credit for the huddle. The whole incident was badly handled. They failed to announce to the arena why the goal was disallowed. The whole arena was angry and confused especially as the replays showed very minimal contact which didn’t affect Ward’s ability to make the save. The reports as to why Toronto was involved are conflicting, to the extent that it’s not clear who called whom. I’m calling it bogus that the closest ref was overruled. Why would a far ref looking at Laich’s back have better insight on if there was incidental contact or not.

Thanks for the link, as I did not see the game at all, so I am pleased to see what the hullabaloo was all about.
Personally, I think you have to assume you’re going to get some bad calls and some borderline calls that go against you.
I would classify that one as borderline.
Sweet move by Brooksie, though.
Patron saint of quality footwear.
Pretty good call by the refs there, I thought. If Laich doesn’t make contact with Ward, he doesn’t knock the puck off the goalie’s shoulder, and it probably doesn’t go in.
Reporter: "What’s your Mom’s birthday?"
Tortorella: "I have no idea."
When the call was made on the ice, and I saw the replay on the board, my gut instinct was “good goal.” I read Whyno’s piece on the BL goal, in which he cites Rule 78.5(v), and I felt it was a stretch to say that Laich’s goal was disallowed because Laich “interfered with a goalkeeper in his goal crease.” The problem I had with that logic, is that the goal was reversed based on what the other 3 officials saw. If the back referee saw interference with the goaltender, the goal is getting waved off, and Brooksie is headed to the sin bin for two minutes for Interference on the Goaltender. No such penalty was assessed, so I had a hard time buying that explanation.
So I pulled out the rulebook, and took a closer look at Rule 69 – Interference on the Goalkeeper. It would seem the officials on the ice didn’t feel the contact was intentional, and thus skipped over Rules 69.1 and 69.2, which provide an overview of which instances should be penalized. The relevant rule here seems to be 69.3, which covers contact inside the crease. The first paragraph is particularly relevant, as the description seems to fit the scenario quite well.
69.3 Contact Inside the Goal Crease – If an attacking player initiates contact with a goalkeeper, incidental or otherwise, while the goalkeeper is in his goal crease, and a goal is scored, the goal will be disallowed.
This is consistent with the explanation Hunter was given, of “incidental contact with the goalie.” Now, I don’t think that rule has been consistently applied, but watching the play, and looking at the rule, I can buy the explanation.

They also failed to inform the public why the goal was rescinded, which is also in the rule book. In hindsight I think that’s a large part of why I was so peeved. I’ve been disappointed at other goal/nongoal calls, but not this disgusted and distrustful. Normally I admire refs and believe they get undue criticism. Not so last night.

The lack of a formal announcement was really disappointing, and borderline unprofessional. If you’re going to reverse a goal call, the fans pay enough for tickets where a brief explanation shouldn’t be an unreasonable expectation.

Couldn’t agree more with you. This kind of thing needs transparency. We need to be able to trust the refs, especially the public there who don’t have the benefit of an explanation by the talking heads on TV. Moreover i and others around me knew enough to be thoroughly confused as to why they were talking to Toronto when a goalie interference or incidental contact is not reviewable. It was clear it had to be some concern with goalie contact, despite the near ref calling it good initially.

I suspect they were checking to see if the puck had gone over the goal line prior to the contact? Just guessing, but that’s the only thing that I can figure.

Based on the replay angle I saw in the arena, I thought they were checking whether it went in off Brooksie’s glove.

I thought it might have been the timing of the puck over the goal line. Or that the refs couldn’t come to an agreement so they needed a ruling body. I didn’t suspect the glove.

There was a scrum in front of the goal in the third period. Harrison got all up in Vokoun’s business (couple of slashes), so Hendricks had to regulate. Coincidental minors.

And thank god. I’ve noticed in the last few games that guys are less inclined to let the other team take liberties w/ their goalie than they had in the past – I’m not in the "HE MUST BE AVENGED" crowd but the one area in which I’ve thought the team needed more toughness was around the net, and they’ve stepped up in the last week or so. Hope it continues.
I liked that there was some applause from the crowd and that a couple of the guys stood up and tapped their sticks on the boards when Hendy got out of the box after serving his time for that one…nice acknowledgement of a job well done.

I have to say that my seats were in the perfect spot, and I was looking at exactly the right place when that happened, and it was amazing.
I always love Hendy, but I was loving him extra hard in that moment. Harrison has a couple inches of height on him, it seemed, but he did a beautiful, beautiful thing there. I loved that folks in the crowd cheered him, not only at the time, but when he came out of the box, too.
It’s all a part of us being “harder to play against,” which I think is one of those important intangibles that can’t be measured in fancy stats, but shows up on the scoreboard. Maybe we get that kind of game going, and putting more rubber on the net follows?

Which is amazing, because I think I remember Green saying he didn’t start playing hockey until 14 — which is absurdly late to develop a stride. When you think about it, even the majority of the 4th line scrappers and career AAAAHLers started playing when they could stand up. He is just amazing naturally. It’s the key to his one-man breakout.

My favorite moment was when they were getting ready to leave the ice, BabyChimmer went and hugged his dad’s leg, which he is almost as tall/long as, and Chimmer put his big gloved hand on his head. It basically covered the entire helmet. Ded of teh cute all over the place!
Also, this kid is, like, 3, and he is AMAZING on his skates. No wobbliness, no weird foot placement. Heck, I’ve seen kids his age less surefooted on dry land.
There was one moment when Chimera was clearing pucks back to the net and one clipped off his son’s skate. The kid barely budged.

bah, I was catching up just now and some prospects, but hadn’t seen that info. yet. Thanks for the heads up.
Not sure what his name is… not #17, who I suppose is Rua, but #21 of Minnesota caused that whole incident with a cheap shot from the back as the game ended, coming off the bench and essentially slewfooting Blood with his stick as Blood was being pushed away from another Minnesota player by the official. That was what incensed Blood. I’m not sure if Blood thought it was Rua, but #21 of Minnesota should get the brunt of any disciplinary action. Total cowardly cheap shot to Blood when his back was turned.
I don't know, maybe it was the roses...
In Canada(we just came back from an Int’l tourney in Toronto) they do the handshake before the game…before everyone gets pissed off. Turned out to be a good thing.
So we all know Vokoun has been playing great lately and the Caps have finally been putting some win streaks together. I’m curious as to whether we’re getting wins and solid play out of Vokoun because he’s getting more starts and therefore is more comfortable, or is he getting more starts because he’s playing better? Or is it both? Anyone have any stats on team success versus whether or not goalies split time?

I would disagree. Take a trip to any European football loving country and go take in a proper match. Just to name a few, you have Celtic fans sing their own rendition of a Depechmode song, Tottenham fans sing their own version of when the saints come marching in.. Im sorry but North American sports don’t hold a match to what goes on in other countries in terms of fan participation. BTW a little OT but how have I just now noticed that ravens fans have taken on the seven nation army chant that is so popular with some Premier league teams?
And the premiership teams took it from Germany at Euro cup. Stuff spreads. Also, Mexican soccer crowds are totally on par with Europes.

Not since the days when they had the three-headed monster of Dominik Hasek, Curtis Joseph and Manny Legace in 2003-04 have the Red Wings devoted a lot of financial resources to goaltending. But that’s clearly all right when you have Nicklas Lidstrom on defense and a bunch of forwards who always have the puck. It doesn’t work so well when your guys give up 30 shots a game.
Take Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins for example. The Lightning went down 2-0 on home ice on two very stoppable goals that got past Mathieu Garon.
One, hahaha. Burn.

Now I hate Malkin and think he’s an incredibly dirty player, but how can the NBC crew really compare his ducking away from Lecavalier’s hit to Marchand submarining Salo? (as seen at the end of this Puck Daddy piece). Malkin ducked to the avoid the check and kept moving along the boards. Marchand ducked (even lower than Malkin did) and moved into Salo’s knees. I don’t see how these are even remotely the same thing in terms of dirty hits.
Come on NBC, Malkin has enough legitimate dirty plays to harp on without making them up.

Totally agree
As far as I could tell, all Malkin did was avoid getting hit. I can’t see hoiw ducking under a check is considered dirty. Yes, if you go into the players legs and/or lift up to try to flip them or drive them headfirst into the boards, that would be dirty. But all Malkin did was duck the check and keep moving. I’ve often wondered why defensemen don’t do that more when going back to retrieve in the corners… Play the puck then duck and move rather than play the puck then get splattered into the boards.
I don't know, maybe it was the roses...
The Carolina Hurricanes got Jeff Skinner back in the lineup Sunday, so that was a plus.
Jussi Jokinen scored a goal, his first in 25 games. Make it another plus for the Canes.
But losing to the Washington Capitals stung. And especially losing on a goal by a 20-year-old rookie defenseman who had never scored in the NHL.

Obviously they can spin the story however they want. I’m thinking $5.25 million to spend at the deadline. Opportunity to keep him out until the playoffs like last year. Of course, that means he’ll have missed the entire season if that happens.
Oh, and what you said below, too. Good thing he’s RFA and probably gets qualified.
"The Caps fan doesn't say, 'is the glass half full' or 'is the glass half empty'. He wonders when the glass is going to spill."
If they decide to use the LTIR space between now and the deadline, he could stay on the sidelines until the playoffs (assuming Caps in playoffs, yes, I am assuming that as of now,) depending on what they do.
Unfortunately, one other caveat with the Trade Deadline/LTIR space, etc., is what happens with Backstrom.
To revisit the issue and make sure I’m clear – the Caps can’t bank Green’s salary, but they can use that space to bring someone else in. Right?
Nice guys finish first, but sometimes the season is awfully long.
Follow me on Twitter.
as others said gotta think they use the cap space to bring in somebody else.
So they basically can add a $5.25 million salary…..
No sense in Green coming back to soon. Just bring him back for the playoffs.
Of course, in order to bring a defenseman (I presume) with a 5.25 million salary who is actually worth it, would require coughing up some good players.
Rocking the Red for teams on the banks of the Potomac and at the Gateway Arch and Singing the Blues about Hockey.
Depends on who it is and his contract status. Don’t go thinking Suter, I don’t see the Caps in the market for him as a UFA. (I got the right Predator, didn’t I?)
"The Caps fan doesn't say, 'is the glass half full' or 'is the glass half empty'. He wonders when the glass is going to spill."
Their ability to take on salary is limited somewhat by the sorts of players you could bring in with that money. There are two guys who are UFA at the end of the year who might make sense to “replace” Mike Green: Filip Kuba in Ottawa and Michal Roszival in Phoenix. Both of those guys could probably be acquired for picks if their respective teams are out of playoff contention.
If you look at RFAs, Kyle Quincey in Colorado would also make some sense, especially since some of the other young puck movers are making him redundant. Even still, I doubt the Avs want to give him up without getting a player in return.
Reporter: "What’s your Mom’s birthday?"
Tortorella: "I have no idea."
One thought is that with the (potential) realignment next year, the conventional wisdom about trading partners may be less relevant. I’d think Winnipeg and Tampa, if they both fall further out of contention, might be more willing trade partners than normally because they (probably) will not be in the SE next year. The isles may be a less likely trading partner for a similar reason.
So, IF the Caps were to make a move using Green’s cap space do they bring in a forward or D?
I’m thinking they go forward if they make a move, because Green would (hopefully) come back for the playoffs.
GMGM has stated that the Caps had problems in the playoffs over the last three years because of their lack of defensive depth – particularly a lack of good puck-movers who can make a solid first pass and get the puck out of the zone with control. Injuries to Mike Green and Dennis Wideman really hurt the Caps in the playoffs last year, and decimated defensive depth really hurt the Caps in ‘08-’09.
The Caps might acquire a forward if the bidding price for a puck-mover gets too high, but otherwise I’d expect them to target that sort of defenseman.
Reporter: "What’s your Mom’s birthday?"
Tortorella: "I have no idea."
But they can only add that space as long as Green stays on LTIR, right?
Nice guys finish first, but sometimes the season is awfully long.
Follow me on Twitter.
Yes, they are already using a small amount already with the Eakin recall; using all of Poti’s LTIR space with both Eakin and Kundratek up, plus others.
Somebody just said on twitter per capgeek that Caps can add $5.05 million on salary at the trading deadline. Assuming you can add more if they trade #55.
Also, Ryan Zimmerman had abdominal surgery and it took him 9 weeks to come back.
The comment about Zimmerman is silly. Abdominal surgery and recovery varies considerably. For now, the Caps released a timeline of 4-6 weeks; the part I thought odd was that I’m assuming they announced this pre-surgery. Could easily learn of a revised estimate post-surgery or once rehab starts.
As to his recovery and expectations for playing this season, we’ll know a lot more based on what the Caps do and don’t trade at the deadline. Feb 27 3pm eastern time
Do you honestly believe everything the Caps say about injuries? Because I don’t. Didn’t they also say Green was day-to-day after he got hurt? Why did they have Green wait so long to have surgery? Nothing wrong with questioning the time frame they give out.
I’m not saying I believe the timeline the Caps stated. As I noted, I don’t understand announcing the estimate pre-surgery and before rehab is close to starting. I’m saying I don’t think you can point to one other injury for a player playing a different sport that had a surgery to the same region of the body and give a timeline either.
I’m taking all time estimates with many a grain of salt. One, he hasn’t had the surgery yet; two, every case is unique and rehabs aren’t all the same. Plus there are the cap issues with Green on LTIR and what the Caps do between now and Feb 27 at 3pm, also impacts what happens with Green and LTIR and post-trade deadline even if he’s healthy and cleared. Again, that’s even if he’s healthy and cleared, there might be a situation (like last season) where they couldn’t bring him back due to cap issues.
FWIW, I simply hope Green gets healthy for his own health and career. If he comes back to play this season, at this point especially pre-playoffs, it will be a surprise.
Poor Green! If the guy didn’t have bad luck, he’d have no luck at all. Time for someone to make a parody of the old Ray Charles song about that and substitute the events involving Mike Green over the last two seasons.

Dater’s like a fan that overreacts to every game. Varly had a rough game, but it’s not like he’s all around been playing horrible. He’s had many very good games as well. I don’t take Dater too seriously.
If the Avs were concerned about not getting value out of the trade, they’d hire a full time goalie coach to work with their young inconsistent goalie. Instead they just let Giggy deal with it.
I agree it would be wise for the Avs to hire a full time goalie coach. But is it in their budget?

Their owner is one of the richest guys out there. He also owns the Nuggets, Rapids (soccer) and the Rams, although I believe the NFL is forcing him to sell his interest in the other teams within a few years. Not getting into specifics about players you are wanting to bring in and sign for certain cap hits, but re. Kuznetsov (as I understand it Sjogren in the example), I don’t think his cap hit will be that low as I think he will have performance bonuses in his contract, if/when he signs.
Well, we have 500,000 to cover the bonuses :\
I tried to put in the players for the highest cap hit I thought was reasonable.
MOAR SEVERINO!
FWIW, there may be a bonus cushion again, just have to wait and see, but I don’t think he comes over for salary plus signing bonus without performance bonuses. Just my opinion.
What is the bonus cushion? I really dont know how the cap works. Any chance the cap goes up with the new CBA?
MOAR SEVERINO!
Shane Doan is turning 36 in Oct and I believe he wants to stay in Phoenix anyway and he’ll probably want a 3-4 yr contract. I’m not sure it would be wise to invest that kind of money on him at this point. Some of his stats so far this year:
46GP, 27pts (14G,13A), 19:39 TOI/G, PK: 0.47, PP:3:14
I rather keep Chimera who is three years younger for the next two years at $1.75M:
43GP, 22pts (14G,8A), 14:29 TOI/G, PK: 0.57, PP:0:47
Parise is also going to want a long term deal and close to $7M. I don’t think the Caps should invest any more money/cap space on wingers. Caps most’s expensive winger right now besides Ovi and Semin is Ward ($3M) and I’d like to keep it that way. The last three SC champions don’t have expensive wingers. The Bruins’ most expensive winger is Lucic ($4.083M), the Blackhawks’ is Kane ($6.3M) and I believe he’s being used as a C right now, and the Pens’ is Kunitz ($3.725M). The Caps need to save cap space for a legit 2C.
Lobbies: Green, Carlson, Orlov
I think we need someone to play wing
and I really dont want Semin back. We are already have all sorts of problems with the O this year, and I dont think it would be wise to let Semin walk without replacing his offense. If Doan wants 4 years than I would find someone else, 3 years would be hard to comit to. If you can get him for 2 years than I do it. If you can sugest to me a legit 2C that we can get I will be all for it, but right now I dont see any options out there. We have Chimera signed for the next few years so Doan would not affect him. I think that we need to get someone who can consitanly produce with the 6.7 in Semins cap space. To me Parise if the only option out there that gives us that. Also forgot to add that Sjogren=Kuznetsov

I don’t see the Caps making a trade for a 2C either. I think they are hoping Kuznetsov becomes that guy. What I’m saying is that they need to have some cap space available just in case. Commiting a ton of cap space long term on another elite winger this summer would be foolish in my opinion and we already have a ton of wingers anyway, maybe not elite ones like Semin or Parise but decent ones and MJ90, Laich, Eakin, Galiev, can also play wing. Besides, I don’t think the Caps will re-sign Semin for anywhere near what he’s making right now but if they can re-sign him for a resonable deal then you don’t need to replace him. If they don’t, they I rather use the cap space to re-sign Carlson, Wideman, and I’m not an expert on ELC deals but Kutznesov cap hit won’t be low so I rather use the remaining cap space on those guys and see what happens with the new CBA before investing more money and cap space on wingers. I’m hoping the Caps use most their cap space from now on to re-sign centers and top 4D and keep wingers, #5,6,7D and goalies on resonable short-term deals.

As of the current CBA, 900,000 is the max an ELC can be. Now there are the bonuses which would bring the cap value up. the current CBA has a cushion for the bonuses as mentioned above. I dont think this team would have enough offense to compete if we cant get another goal scorer. Ovechkin isnt what he used to be, and Backstrom is still a ?, and even when he is on I think you need another elite goal scorer. Now I would perfer that scorer to be a center, but I dont see that happening

I don’t think you need another scoring winger. A bonafide goal scorer, let’s say one of the top 30 goal scorers in the NHL, is a 30-goal scorer. This team has, realistically, 1-3 of those. Extend that to the top-45 (top line scorer to above average second scorer) and you’re at 25 goals.
A top line scorer (top 90 in NHL), only 21 goals. There are five Capitals on pace for break 21, and four are under contract for next season. Johansson may get close next year, and I’ll be absolutely shocked if Kuznetsov doesn’t go 20+ on his ELC. Brooks Laich will likely get close as well (he’s probably a fantasy sleeper—despite the third-closest average 5v5 shot distance on the team, he’s only shooting 2%, which is worse than Karl Alzner).
In other words, I don’t think scoring is the problem. I don’t think it’s as simple as pointing to a “goal scorer” or a “playmaker” here. What the Caps need, I think, is a guy who’ll complement the skillsets in the top six well, who’ll do what his linemates will not, thus improving possession.

Obviously a little late to the party here, but regarding Mike Green, is it even worthwhile to try to resign him at this point? You figure he’s done for the year since you have to add at least 2 extra weeks to whatever the stated green-recovery time is, and hes played in right around a third of the games over the past two years combined. Im having a tough time thinking about how vital he is to the capitals offense when the team has to play more games without him than with him. Not an indictment of his play, and I hope he gets better, but it doesn’t seem to be worth any type of risk at this point.
