So for those of you playing fantasy: With 3 goals, 4 PIMs, and 7 hits, how many points did Brouwer muster last night in your league?

I have 4 teams and nary a Cap on any of 'em
And probably for the first time in years. I didn’t have a chance to get Ovi, I don’t draft centers in the first round so no Backstrom and wouldn’t touch Green or Semin with a ten foot pole. That leaves only Carlson or Wideman as viable fantasy options and I didn’t get those guys either. Brouwer might get a look now if he can keep it up. #nobodycaresaboutyourfantasyteam

Boucher can go eat one of these

He should thank the officials for goal #2.

The best part is that for all his whining… guess who plays the fewest back-to-backs in the League this year.

Pretty surprising to hear Boucher talk like that. So little merit to all that complaining, especially about officiating and the “ridiculous situation” of having to play back-to-back.
I guess the losing season is really wearing on him. Must be tough, after all of last season’s success and plaudits.

I saw your tweet, so it sent me looking for our buddy above. I said as much last night, too. When Bruce would complain about something in the travel that went wrong, everyone jumped all over him, including Caps fans. Does anyone outside of DC have anything to say about Boucher? What an ass. Bloom off the rose and all that.
"The Caps fan doesn't say, 'is the glass half full' or 'is the glass half empty'. He wonders when the glass is going to spill."
Burn.
I think, based on very little but my impressions after watching him speak, that Boucher fancies himself a master psychologist. I think he’s real calculated, and I would guess that this latest rant is calculated to remove the focus from the players or the goalies or something like that.
He’s pretty damned annoying.
Patron saint of quality footwear.
Stamkos wasn’t tossed for……what reason again? Not instigating? Not dropping the gloves?
Refs allow play to continue....
Wasn’t a fight – just matching roughings. No fight, no fight instigated.
… I guess.

And not even matching penalties since the Bolts ended up getting a power play out of it

and that boarding call was a complete and total farce as well
by Beakers Lab on Jan 14, 2012 12:36 PM EST up reply actions
No, it wasn’t. He sent St. Louis into the boards. If it had been interference (which Joe B. and Locker thought it was originally), then it would have been BS.
Failure is always an option.
Technically, that could still be considered boarding. I don’t agree with the call, but it was called according to the letter fo the rule – even though the refs never call it that way.
Failure is always an option.
Looking at the rulebook, it seems as though an instigator can only be called when there are fighting majors. It doesn’t mention instigator under roughing.
Failure is always an option.

In the post-game interview Alzner said he was upset that Downie got in a hit after Karl lost his feet and was falling down. He thought that was a cheap shot and told him so over the glass in the box….

I think it’s a very good precedent Karl is setting. Fight Karl Alzner, and you have to listen to a 5-minute lecture from him in the adjoining penalty box.
Once word gets out, no one will ever fight Alzner again.

Facebook noted that today is the birthday of Japers Rink. So, is it your birthday, J.P.? Or when you started the blog before it joined SB Nation? I recall it was one Thanksgiving time frame when the blog joined SB Nation — the year after the Boudreau hire.

It’s mine, yeah. Blogiversary is June 12 or so. Came to SBN on November 28, 2008, I think.

Hrm I was expecting Bowman to like recap the juniors or something, not a little blurb about him but it was still fascinating to read his take on the game.
Bruce Boudreau when asked about Brooks Laich's return to the lineup, he said: "He just adds another dimension to our team. If it was puzzle, he just fits that thing. He completes us."
Brooks Laich completing everything from teams to tires and everything in between.
No real compelling reason to send him down, I guess, and the Bears are on a roadie right now.
You perhaps knew me better as "Your Nation's Capital." Same great commentary, now with 100% more transparency!
Gottcha. I thought he was decent in the recent games, but I thought having two rookies out of 6 D-men at the end of the game last night was a nerve-wracking and unnecessary situation.
Bears only play one game this weekend, tonight in BInghamton, after returning from Charlotte Friday morning. Next game is against Binghamton, too, but not until next Friday.
As to last night, when Hamrlik took the late penalty, Kundratek came off the bench and skated the entire break trying to get loose after sitting for so long. You weren’t alone in your concern.
I find it interesting that since Ovie stuck up for Semin against the Sharks, the Caps have had four fights: Two by Hendricks, one by Chimera, and the one by Alzner last night. Do you think the Caps are responding to their captain, or is this just a coincidence?
Maybe more like “since they failed to respond when Backstrom got run.”

Here’s Rene Bourque suited up for the first time as a dam dirty Hab. The way the Canadiens and Flames worked the trade managed to burn one game of his suspension.

So that’s the reason it happened during the game? Dirty Habs, indeed.

No, I think it was finalized after the Habs game and right as the Flames game was starting so they burned the game Bourque was supposed to play in Calgary. Or something. Very confusing, but as I understand it Cammalleri was yanked because they knew it was coming.
Still completely ridiculous…how do you time it so you have to do something like that? Why even put him in the game? And then to pull him in the middle so that in a one-goal game against your fiercest rival your team is distracted…such a shitshow in Mtl right now.
The definition of being a Caps fan is watching the same team over and over and expecting different results.
Cammy should be glad to get outta that hot mess.

PSA from the tweets

PSA: vouchers for the blanket from 12/20 vs. Preds are redeemed M-F at the Caps offices at KCI. The KCI store doesn’t have them. #Caps
Yup. The cashier said I was about the millionth person to have one of the vouchers. The promotions staff didn’t do a good job with this one.

I thought it was pretty clear on the voucher. Of course, I simply brought it to the next game I attended, but I considered Kettler.
"The Caps fan doesn't say, 'is the glass half full' or 'is the glass half empty'. He wonders when the glass is going to spill."
Yeah, it was my fault for not looking close enough to see the times, actually. Promo staff absolved. But it is actually kinda annoying you can only go M-F during business hours. The rest of us work, too.

Promo staff NOT absolved. Not a well-run promotion at all.
You perhaps knew me better as "Your Nation's Capital." Same great commentary, now with 100% more transparency!
I thought it would have been better if the blankets were available at the team store at KCI but I understand since the staff is employed by KCI and not the Caps, you can’t exactly do that. There needs to be a team store in DC that isn’t dependent upon Verizon Center being open or Caps playing.
by jopierce on Jan 14, 2012 12:52 PM EST via iPhone app up reply actions
Actually, it would be better if they had the promotion available on the night it was advertised. Someone screwed up, whether it was the promotions department or the supplier. If it was the supplier, they need a new one who can get it done overnight when things get mucked up.
"The Caps fan doesn't say, 'is the glass half full' or 'is the glass half empty'. He wonders when the glass is going to spill."
Yes.
The issue was the giveaway promotion not being there on game day. Waiting to ship until week of when they knew the promotion all along and it was pretty generic, i.e., not a player, was the issue, whether that is on a Caps employee(s) or the supplier don’t know.
FWIW, not trying to insult anyone who went to the store, but not sure why anyone would think the KCI store would have them. This was a Capitals promotion, the pick-up at KCI is at the Caps offices. As to not having one weekend or evening block where one could go pick them up given the mix-up, I agree that is something that they should have done.
Also, for those who do go to another game, you can pick them up at the game with the ticket and voucher.
shrug I’m not a pro at picking up Caps promotions. It’s the first game I’ve been to that had one and from a logistics standpoint, having the item at the game would have been better but since they didn’t do that, making it available during a time in which most people are able to go to KCI would be a good idea. That means weekends and if you only keep weekday office hours (and I imagine MLK Day is closed as well), it would have been nice to have them available for pick up at the team store or the front desk at KCI.
