KILL TB!

Alzner ought to get the star treatment. I.e., someone skates over and cross checks Downie in the nose.
Patron saint of quality footwear.
I hope Hunter puts cash on the board to the tune of a game-check for whoever either runs Downie through the glass, or punches Stamkos in the face.

Didn’t see what Stamkos did, but you know I agree with you 100% regarding Downie.
Simply can’t stand around while a guy like Downie goads a guy like Alzner into a fight. The 5 minutes alone makes it a bad deal, and the message it sends to the rest of the league is crippling.
Patron saint of quality footwear.
No, gotta be retaliation against Downie. And brutal retaliation.
I’m pretty sure something will go down.
Patron saint of quality footwear.
Oh, right. Gotcha.
I understand now.
Stamkos can be a bit liberal with his stick sometimes, which is what I figured had happened. Thanks for the explanation.
Patron saint of quality footwear.
Yeah, an eye-for-an-eye type thing. I don’t think a filthy little sociopath like Downie will be deterred by a little rough stuff. Gotta hit ‘em where it hurts when they go after Alzner – Downie isn’t sufficiently important to make anything they do to him worth it.

Downie could get along in the league without his ratbastard agitating shit, which makes said shit even more aggravating to the viewer. I would enjoy someone teaching some perspective to him.
Dingos are involved. Best not to ask.
Sounds just like another shithea, named Carcillo.

I think Downie might have more talent. Guys like that, you wonder why they have to be assholes.

Downie is definitely a better hockey player than Carcillo, but neither of those guys would disappear to the AHL if they didn’t play as dirty as they do.

At the risk of being accused of sucking up, can I say that Laich is one of my favorite players in the NHL. I wrote a piece about how he should have been the Ducks number 1 target if he hit the open market. I also said I’d trade Bobby Ryan for him straight up. I just love the way he plays the game.
Hmmm. Ryan for Laich straight up? I might do that.

Sign me up for that trade! Hard work is all well and good, but Ryan is a lot more talented. Laich is also signed for 6 years at 4.5. Lots of risk for the holder of that contract, IMO.

Yeah, but he’s the type of player the Ducks really need. A solid two way forward who can put up 50+ points and set a good example every night.
I don’t think Laich alone gets you Ryan, but I think I’d ask for Laich in any deal for Bobby Ryan. Then again, it’s not like fleecing Bob Murray is a monumental task.
I know you don’t want to lose Getzlaf, but what, in your opinion, would it take to get Getzlaf if Laich was in the return package?

I value Getzlaf way more than I value Bobby. Probably Laich, Carlsson at least one first round pick and I’d probably ask for Johanssen. If I’m a gm. That’s where I have to start the negotiation.
Getzlaf is a top center, who plays a physical game. He’ll frustrate the shit out of every team in the east. You’re talking about a guy who will get physical with Chara. He’ll fight when he has to. He’s almost a Point per game guy in the post season. It’s been a rough season, but the guy could definitely lead you to a cup.
I worry that Mike Babcock would hunt down and kill everyone on the team that trades for him. Babbles loves Getzlaf more than Boudreau loves Laich.

Really? I haven’t paid much attention to Babcock since he went to Detroit, because I hate Detroit. I’ve never noticed much of what he said about Getzlaf.
The Detroit players said Babcock absolutely loves Getzlaf. There was a lot of chatter about it leading up to the Olympics.

Yeah. I firmly believe if the Ducks survive that Detroit series, then Sidney Crosby is still Cupless. I don’t wish career ending injury on anyone that isn’t Niclas Kronwall, but I got very tired of having to hear about Crosby.
If Nik Lidstrom hadn’t had testicle surgery from the Chicago series and Datsyuk wasn’t skating on one foot, Crosby doesn’t have a Cup.

I watched one of the games when he came back, and he gave someone a two hander right in front of the net as the play was going the other way. That dude is no angel. I hate how sports stars in general are sanctified, but only some of them. As a comm scholar, sports rhetoric fascinates me.
Crosby is a dirty player with his stick. When Cherry called him out on HNIC, my jaw about dropped, because a Canadian actually said it. They just don’t see that stuff when The Anointed One does it.
Malkin’s actually even dirtier. I can’t understand why no one ever talks about his slew foots, or his elbows, or kicking Lecavalier in the helmet.

I have borderline players on my team. Perry does some dirty shit from time to time, but I’m a firm believer that almost every player does it. For me the line is always intent to injure. Slashing a dude hurts, but it takes a lot to break a shin.
Ha, calling Perry borderline is very generous. That guy is flat out dirty.

I don’t think Corey is dirty. I think he does what everyone else does, only more often. He’s definitely crossed the line a few times. But, he’s an agitator. As I said, it’s stuff everybody does, he just does it more often.
Not everybody throws blatant elbows or knee drops goalies in the spine. He does do a lot of other shit that other agitators do, but he often goes above and beyond the call of duty. He has been better the past year or so, but that guy is still a scumbag.

I do, too. You wouldn’t get Laich and Johansson, simply because the Caps can’t afford to lose any more Cs with Backstrom out after Bourque’s elbow.
I don’t think I’d give up Carlson, pending contract negotiations. If he wants too much money, which GMGM certainly knows by now, then that changes my stance. He’s probably a deal-breaker for just about anything the Ducks want to put together.
Caps have COL’s 1st and their own, so they may not mind parting with one of the picks to get a second bonafide 1C on a value contract, but all of those together isn’t going to fly, I don’t think.

The Ducks have a few extra centers they could package in the deal. I think it becomes more doable if Backstrom comes back. I could see it as an overpay, but after watching Murray give up Lupul and Gardiner for a player he should have been able to sign as a UFA, Beauchemin, I have to start thinking about making teams overpay and then being talked down. I just don’t trust my GM.
If you’re talking about Backstrom going to Anaheim, that ain’t gonna happen on a 10 year 6.7 AAV deal. In terms of productivity, Backstrom and Getzlaf are roughly equivalent, but Backstrom’s been more durable up to this point. We’ll see what happens with this don’t-say-the-word-its-a-week-long-migraine-not-a-concussion-dammit going forward, but that’s as close to a one-for-one trade as you’re going to come up with.
Given that Backstrom is three years younger, I think I’d take him at this point.

We’re finally heading for a top pick and I can’t help but feel that there might not be that standout #1 guy. You know where I can catch some Major Junior games. I read scouting reports, but I really need to watch more of these kids play.
You can find feeds occasionally, and the Memorial Cup is usually on NHL Network.
Corey Promman (@coreypronman) thinks that this draft is loaded in the lottery and not so great after that. Anything in the top 6 is going to be pretty good with one of Yakupov, Grigorenko, Murray, Dumba, Galchenyuk, and Forsberg.
Other than that, it’s all about reading up as much as you can and trying to put together the pieces for yourself.

Called boarding clearly that was not a board since if anything he hit him away from the wall. Really wish the NHL would make the refs have to answer for horrible calls like that
I was just thinking that. Are the refs ever held accountable?
