2 - Number of times since December 27, 2003 that the Caps have played an entire game without having to kill a single penalty - December 18, 2010 and last night. (Coincidentally, both games featured a fight.)

Hmm. In that December 27, 2003 game, they had a coincidental minor. Let me check further…

If it’s ever happened (it has to have happened, right?), it was prior to the 1997-98 season.

I dug out an old hard copy media guide from 06-07. FWIW, it says two times the Caps played in a game with only 2 PIMs. At that time, most recent was 2/17/78 vs Montreal, a 2-0 loss according to the OfficialGuide. My guess is Montreal was the team without the penalty, but possible it was the Caps???

Of course, could be a typo, everywhere else I find, including in the season history in the same guide, indicates the final score was 8-2 Montreal. ???

They lost 2-0 to Montreal on 2/17/79.

A 2-0 loss to MTL back in those days should’ve counted as half a win for those Caps – they were still years away from their first franchise win against the Habs (in February, 1982), which broke an 0-32-2 run.

I looked around a little and couldn’t find anything. I did find a site with all the Flyers boxscores, wow. Thought there might be something like this for Montreal, but I couldn’t find anything.

I’ve used the site, but still didn’t realize how extensive the boxscore and other detail is for older time periods. I recognize longer history, but amazed something similar doesn’t exist for Montreal.

Oh and in my research discovered 2/17/79 was the night Parent suffered his eye injury resulting in retirement.
