Holtby did a radio interview yesterday on the Pipeline show. He knows this coming year (his sophomore year) will be more difficult. When asked about the change in the Caps last year, said it wasn’t so much a change in their systems but more to do with the defense getting better (he mentions Carlzner, Hannan and Wideman), that others figured out the offense, and how “Nicklas had a few injuries that guys didn’t really know about.” He also gives big love to Alzner, and mentions how Sheldon Souray was a great, positive influence in the Hershey locker room.
Malin put this link to a blog about it out on twitter, or if you prefer, here’s a link to the radio show.

That isn’t “a” blog, it’s Malin’s own blog, and good on her for updating! Also, Holtby is the bomb. Note to self: Moar trips to Hershey this upcoming season.
You perhaps knew me better as "Your Nation's Capital." Same great commentary, now with 100% more transparency!
Gotta love him. Frank in his disappointment but honest assessment of how much he still needs to learn at Hershey. Malin wrote a good piece.

Many apologies, Malin. Didn’t see your bi-line there. And agree about Holtby’s attitude. He does seem to be level-headed about his development.

Best part about yesterday?
Getting to ride in the elevator with Boudreau.
I'm the type of person who edits his signature every 5 seconds.
You're a wizard, George!

What’s the deal with the Danick Paquette birthday link?
Is Cheryl Nichols Photography throwing him a party?
In what was a deliberate match up between Eakin and Sjogren, the older more physically mature Swede continued to take full advantage of his edge in size. Sjogren was consistently successful on faceoffs and was able to out-muscle Eakin along the boards. Coach Bruce Boudreau wasn’t as harsh on Eakin as the 20-year-old was on himself, though.
What does that say about his chances for opening night?
Obviously, this is all speculation.
Opening night is also Yom Kippur, and seeing how Halpern has missed a game for a Jewish holiday in the past, couldn’t Eakin and Sjogren both make the opening night roster? Sjogren as one of the 4th line wings and Eakin centering the 4th line?

Hey, it depends on the person. I’d skip for a religious day too. Lets not go down this road.

I think it says Eakin needs a year in the AHL getting used to pushing around players who are bigger and stronger than him. Maybe he can learn though the year, but if it’s a tossup between Sjogren and Eakin, Sjogren would win.
Of course it was playing against players younger than himself, but Sjogren was a tank yesterday.
Proud member of the Popsicle Division of the Cupcake Conference.
As he should of been…Sjogren I mean. Eakin should spend most of the year in the A, maybe with a call up or two. He still needs to develop some and learn what it’s like to play against men.
Everything ends badly...otherwise it wouldn't end.

Silver lining on Sloan buyout
perhaps Flemming ends up getting the D spot in Hershey that otherwise might have gone to Sloan if he’s not bought out.
There is that, good point.
