Your savory breakfast links:

  • Notes and assorted whatnot from yesterday at KCI:
  • In case you didn't know the Caps' possible Round 2 scenarios heading into tonight's games. [SB Nation DC]
  • Barry Svrluga writing about Jason Arnott? Yes, please. [WaPo (Svrluga)]
  • Don't look now, but suddenly the Caps and Playoff OT are BFFs (knock on wood... seriously, do). [WashTimes (Daly)]
  • The Caps need continued production from their stars. [DCEx (McNally)]
  • Here's Bruce Boudreau on Breakaway with Gord Stellick from yesterday. [XM Home Ice (audio)]
  • By the numbers, Michal Neuvirth was second in the Conn Smythe hunt heading into last night's action. [Puck Prospectus ($)]
  • Has Alex Ovechkin left the left and gotten right on the right? [DCEx (Keim)]
  • An interesting look at depth (and lack there of) on defense among the playoff teams. [Empty Netters]
  • The day in jinxes. [D.C. Sports Bog, Puck Daddy]
  • Unanswered questions heading into Round 2. [Sick, Unbelievable]
  • We are louder. And more social. [Ross Hollebon]

  • Prospect playoff update (courtesy Em):
    • Congratulations are in order for Brett Flemming and the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors, who clinched the OHL Eastern Conference Championship last night with a 4-1 victory over the Niagara Ice Dogs. They can now prepare for the OHL Finals as they await their opponent. The Owen Sound Attack can claim the Western Conference title and a berth in the Finals (and the Memorial Cup tourney) tonight with a win over the defending champion Windsor Spitfires.
    • Cody Eakin continued his reign of terror over Medicine Hat Tigers goaltender Tyler Bunz with another 3-point game.  He went 1-2-3 last night, and is now 3-4-7 in three games; each of his three goals has been the game-winner.  The Kootenay Ice have now won ten straight and are one win away from claiming the WHL Eastern Conference championship.  The Ice and the Tigers play again tonight. One key to Eakin's big week? Being shifted back to center from wing. [Daily Townsman]
    • Samuel Carrier provided primary assists on both goals for the Lewiston MAINEiacs, but it wasn't enough as the Saint John Sea Dogs scored five and went up 3-0 in this semifinal series. Stan Galiev scored the fifth goal for the Doggies - an empty-netter. The Sea Dogs win sets up a Russian showdown in the Q between Galiev and Kirill Kabanov. [Telegraph-Journal]
  • Finally, happy 23rd birthday to Semyon Varlamov.
