Our weekly temperature-taking of the mainstream media's opinions on the Washington Capitals:

Outlet This Week Last Week What They're Saying
2 2 No Ovie, no problem for the Caps as they continue their late-season charge at the conference title.
-
4 Marco Sturm scored his first goal for the Capitals, and it figures that it would come against the Canadiens. [Ed. note: You bet the Caps went out and found themselves a Hab-killer.]
2 2 Have the high-flyin' Caps changed their tune? Three of their last seven wins have been by shutout. [Ed. note:  Hey Aaron - you'll get to see for yourself a little later tonight.  We're keen to know what you think.]
2 2 It doesn't matter who tends goal for the Caps these days, they just keep on winning. Braden Holtby jumped in for the ill Michal Neuvirth on Saturday and shut out the Habs. The Caps have won eight of their past 10 and are chasing Philly for top spot in the East.
5 4 Alexander Semin had a hand in each of Washington's wins last week. Semin started off the week by netting the game-decider in a 5-4 shootout win over in Philadelphia last Tuesday and closed out the week by posting two points (1G, 1A) in a 2-0 win in Montreal on Saturday.
2 2 With or without Alex Ovechkin, Caps are rounding into peak form for playoffs
2 2 The Capitals have won 12 of 14 and are about to welcome injured Alexander Ovechkin and Jason Arnott back to the lineup.
- 3 The longer Mike Green is out, the better that Dennis Wideman deal looks. [Ed. note:  Get well soon, Dennis!  You too, Greener.]
2 2 Even without star scorer Alexander Ovechkin, the Capitals invade Montreal and hand the Habs their third straight shutout defeat.
11 10
Nice to have the luxury to rest LW Alexander Ovechkin (though sitting D Mike Green doesn't sound like a luxurious decision these days) and at least as nice to be able to dip into the AHL to grab G Braden Holtby whenever a malady strikes Michal Neuvirth or Semyon Varlamov, which seems to be on a weekly basis. [Ed. note: yes, yes we know.]
- 2 Pending.
