"He moves the puck well out of his zone, he’s calm under fire, he’s done a lot of great things for us. Power play is one of the places because [coinciding] with him coming here was Mike Green going down, it was an easy slide into that situation. If he can’t play tomorrow, we’ll find somebody else." - Bruce Boudreau on Dennis Wideman

I don’t know, I bet fans of the Caps’ first round opponent would love to hear that.

Do we really need Green or Wideman up top on the PP? We have Fehr, right?

Carlson and Arnott on the points gets my vote. PP was working well with Arnott there.

why the hell not? you play on the point, you play for 2 minutes!

Has Fehr ever looked good on the PP? I can’t recall it.

Last season he did – when he played in front of the net. He picked up a few goals that way, or screened the goalie to help someone else get a goal.

Didn’t he have a PP goal upon his return from being killed by Stecks?

He did – Mar. 9. 2 goal game against Edmonton. A shot from the point hit the goalie, then a dman’s skate, and Fehr stuffed it in from just outside the crease.

yeah I remembered I was excited because I had made some bold claims with no proof at all to some people that our PP would benefit GREATLY from having Ferhsie back…and then it paid off quickly.

I saw that, and my guess is he meant…make it work…have someone step up and be a puck mover? I am not even sure that statement has any meaning.

Fehr on point, say what?
I often wondered this year why OV was on the point besides his good vision, good hands, booming shot, and ability to keep the puck in (OK, some good reasons). But Fehr? really? Besides his hard shot, does he really fit much of the OV criteria? I say, no. Green, Poti, Carlson, Weideman, and OV to an extent, I get on point. Arnott, MaJo, and OV, I can see, but Fehr, wtf(ehr)? I really wonder about some of the decisions about personnel and positioning on the PP this year: from first to almost worst. I love the improved defensively play, but the PP year long duldrums just has me befuddled.
I think Fehr’s only been on the point recently due to lack of personnel. With no Green, Poti, or Arnott, there really aren’t good pointmen aside from Wideman and Carlson. Ovi’s not that good on the point, because he is terrible at keeping the puck in and isn’t the best passer. Hopefully, come playoff time, we’ll have everyone healthy and be able to field a decent PP unit. It was doing well after the trade deadline when we had Arnott on the point.

OV is not my favorite on point because I think he much more effective on the half wall and the rotation of the point to the wheel house has not been very effective this year. I think Fehr should spell Knubs on the second unit in the crease, imho. I assume his lingering shoulder issues may have forced BB to use Laich and Hendricks instead, who both can be effective in high traffic areas.
Fehr is a pretty good puck handler, doesn’t panic when pressured, and has a fairly accurate shot that is hard. I can live with him on point on the power play as a temporary thing.
If you see Chimera on the point, then it’s time to panic.
