The original 6…minus the team we’re mostly ripping off with our new design.

Seriously, I really like the new TB jersey design, especially when compared to their current ones. I have no problem with them…except that just really look too much like what the Leafs are already wearing (and have been for quite some time now).

agreed, and i think they could have still managed a “classic” look while keeping their unique black and blue colors. it bums me out more than it should, to be honest.

I think they actually borrowed more from the Wings. If you look at the striping, especially the striping on the socks and pants, they’re totally derivative of the Wings. The Bolts just happen to have the same primary colors as the Leafs.

the bolts NOW have the same primary colors as the leafs. they didn’t until this switch, though. choosing exactly the same color scheme is more my problem than the simplistic detroit striping design.

To be fair, there’s a TON of black around the league. I guess there’s also a lot of blue, too.

no one was black and blue. and most of the black jerseys around the league are third jerseys (even the kings, who can sort of lay claim to the color going back to the gretzky era). tampa along with boston, pittsburgh, ottawa? are one of the few teams with black as a primary jersey color. calgary should clearly go back to red, yellow and white. like you said, teams with blue as a primary jersey color are many, and there’s an eastern conference team with EXACTLY that shade of blue and white. i don’t see a reason to run away from the black and blue in this case. it doesn’t help them become more “classic,” it just erases their identity.

I agree with you though. I liked their old jerseys. I thought the could have simplified the logo to make it more classic, but keep the color scheme.

I was speaking more to the color than the design. The problem with using a simplistic, classic look is that it’s just that: simple. If they were to start adding unique elements, then it would not have accomplished what they set out to do. I don’t really mind the similarities to the WIngs uniforms, as there is no one that would ever confuse the two.

I’m not even sure what I would do differently if I were the Bolts. I definitely applaud their efforts as far as the concept is concerned. I am definitely more a fan of the old school than new school when it comes to uni designs, but it’s also important that whatever you put together doesn’t look exactly like something someone else is already wearing…and to me the colors just match the Leafs uniforms a little too closely.

Overall I rather like the look. I might have added some silver to give it a bit more of a unique identity. I’m mostly pissed about the lack of the bolts on the pants. The plain white stripe is lame.

Interesting article and video...

Maybe I’m a stickler but I personally don’t care for any of the primary logos I saw. I personally think they should’ve stayed with their current/old logos.
