Cheapshot by DiPietro on Cooke but I’m sure he had it coming on some level. Then he signals he wants to go with Johnson who drops him with one left. Love Fleury’s reaction.

I imagine Fleury saying “You fucking hit him hard, you fucking fuck face!”

absolutely no reason for Cooke to be anywhere near DiPietro with his team up 3-0 and a whooping 16.5 seconds left. Total dick move by Cooke.

Didn’t look like he was even remotely interested in DiPietro though, but maybe I am misinterpreting his maneuvers.

Also, anyone notice how many empty seats there seem to be?

Neither DiPietro nor Cooke tried to get out of each other’s way. All things equal here…blame Cooke.

The keyboard is mightier.

DiPietro has a hell of a bruise brewing on his right cheekbone…admitted he started scrum w/ hit on Cooke and that led to fight w/ Johnson

I also think it’s a little ridiculous, RB that Cooke can’t chase down a loose puck behind the net (which takes his path near the goalie). Hockey games are 60:00 long and the clock was ticking. If NYI recovers the puck, gets a clean breakout because Cooke pulled up and ruins Johnson’s shutout in the last second, Cooke gets in trouble for not playing it out. For once, there’s little of this to be pinned on Cooke.

But if you think about it he ruined BJ’s shutout anyway by making BJ get kicked out of the game for fighting for him. What a selfish play by Cooke.

I dunno, BJ has shutouts, how many one punch knockouts does he have?

What do you think Garth Snow was saying when his glass goalie stepped up to throw em?

Cooke didn’t make Johnson leave the crease and engage in the fight. BJ knew he’d lose the shutout and deemed it more important to stick up for his teammate.

I know we all have a healthy dislike for Cooke, but c’mon.

I definitely wasn’t serious.

While he didn’t really do anything this time, he’s still a douche and can go fuck himself.

Everyone bailed after the empty net goal. Those gold seats are really noticeable in the new building when they are empty.

Definitely true about the seats. Didn’t notice the people leaving but I don’t doubt it. It’s a shame when it’s such an inconvenience for people to stay to the end of the game.

Promise you my buddies up there stuck around long enough to see the goalies throw em.

So this costs Brent a shutout since Fleury finished the last 17 seconds right? I’d also like to see a camera angle from Johnson’s end the whole time to see how he approached crossing the red line.

yeah unfortunately for johnson this did cost him the shutout on his stat sheet. I am pretty sure he is happy trading one shutout for a one punch TKO though. I know I would be.

That was the first and last time I’ll ever rout for a penguin in a fight….I was not disappointed. Gotta love Johnny

by DC FURY on Feb 3, 2011 4:13 PM EST reply actions

I don’t know….from his postgame comments, sounded like Johnny might be willing to throw down again sometime and we all knew there are plenty of punk goalies in the league just waiting for a beating (looking at you, Jimmy Howard).

Howard’s no punk – he only gets involved when the other team starts it.

I’ve seen otherwise.

It was the most bizarre thing I’ve seen. I cheered for DiPietro to hit Cooke, but then cheered for Johnny to beat the snot out of DiPietro for such a bush league move.

Am I mad, that I should cherish that which bears but bitter fruit?
I will pluck it from my bosom, tho' my heart be at the root.
