Interesting point on how splitting up Backstrom and Ovechkin forced the Preds to pick one to have their top defensive duo face. Do you think that’s a strategy DH32 dusts off every time the team faces an opponent with a real shutdown defensive duo?

Laich told me this afternoon they’re hoping to balance out the lines and make themselves tougher to defend. Certainly against the Preds, but looks like they’re sticking with it again.

I was thinking that Knuble’s 1000th game was a bit like the Kennedy Center Honors, where the honoree sits in the box seats, gets nice gifts and lots of huzzahs, and watches others perform.
