Snake Bitten
Caps look a little snake bitten tonight, and by that i mean the bounces are going against them in a big way.
any semblance of a powerplay would also be nice though.
Don’t seem to have any..any…anything.. I’m at a loss. good thing avs seem bad too.

I actually disagree, I think they’ve played relatively well under Hunter, minus that Philly game. The effort has been there, but tonight they definitely haven’t been getting the breaks.
I know we’re all waiting for them to break out of this “slump,” and it may not be one, this may be our team now, but I still see them doing some good things. Taking that next step that we’ve been waiting for, I donno about that.
But yeah, too early to call on Hunter
The offense under Hunter blows. All these one goal games are sucking all the fun out of the game.

Our suckitude is a two-fer tonight. Not only do we lose the game but we hurt ourselves in next year’s draft in terms of Colorado’s pick….
Do you still have your own first round pick?
Simon Gagne AND Mike Richards may move between towns, wear new jerseys and call different arenas home but, at the end of the day, they will both always be Philadelphia Flyers.
One day Sean Couturier will win the Conn Smythe. You heard it here first.
by PursuitOfLappyness on Dec 17, 2011 11:11 PM EST up reply actions
Cool. Obviously you lot over here don’t want to think of this possibility but as of now you’re positioned at #5 and #11 in the first round of the draft – that will probably change obviously and I still expect the Caps to make the playoffs – but even in the worst case scenario you have a great opportunity to conduct a mini-rebuild through this draft.

That’s what I’m banking on. I don’t expect Colorado to do super-well this year, either. This draft is pretty deep, and essentially, other than Kuznetsov, Holtby, and Galiev, the cupboard is pretty empty.
Although, if the Caps did miss the playoffs (which is probable if they’re playing like they are right now), it wouldn’t be awful either.
Personally, I’m a big fan of going defense with a higher pick, and I’m enthralled with Ryan Murray.
The scary part is that I don't even know if I'm being sarcastic or not
I can’t remember the last 5 on 5 situation where they’ve been able to set it up in the zone. goodness

Honestly, has our top line been able to sustain pressure on any shift this season? Haven’t seen every game, but this is just sad.
Backstrom has played reasonably well---or did...
for a time, but have seen very little chemistry on the first line this year. This team in general seems have morphed into the rangers of the last two years—just can’t generate many good scoring chances. Not very dynamic in offensive zone. A lot of the shots we do get are outside. The dominant offensive team that gave me a sense that we could make a serious cup run is …poof.

Exactly. As Holmgren said on 24/7, he didn’t know if the Flyers were going to be a better team or not. He just knew that his team needed to be different.

Frankly, I think the Flyers broke up their team for less provocation than we’ve had to put up with. I can just imagine what Holmgren and Ed Snider would have done with our team.
Rocking the Red for teams on the banks of the Potomac and at the Gateway Arch and Singing the Blues about Hockey.
I agree. They were really fast making the changes.
Ted and GMGM are more patient. Just makes me wonder for how long they are willing to wait for this core to develop into a solid winning group.
The first objective (making the playoffs every year) is at serious danger now.
by brazilianbeast on Dec 18, 2011 12:01 AM EST up reply actions
If Holmgren and Snider were in charge of the Caps, Semin would no longer be a Cap and I have serious doubts that Ovi would still be on the team as well. Granted, the long contract with a No Trade Clause would be a deterrent to other teams, not to mention the large cap hit.
Rocking the Red for teams on the banks of the Potomac and at the Gateway Arch and Singing the Blues about Hockey.
Retool the core meaning what--besides...
trading Semin, whose value has plunged? The core of this team obviously is Ovie, who seems
a shadow of his former self. I’m sorry the GM didn’t hire a proven, veteran coach—which is what we needed.
