I remember watching that game on TV, and when that play occurred, turning to some friends I had been sharing with: they both had this “Did I really see what I thought I just saw?” look. After so many disappointments, it was special. I can’t remember who was calling the play-by-play, but he sounded like he ruptured a vocal cord on the score.

Depending on where you were, you either heard Mike Emrick, Jim Hughson, or Mike Fornes. http://hunter-shot.blogspot.com/

It was Emerick-he almost sounded like he felt sorry for Hextall-almost expected him to add a “doggonnit” at the end. (Probably hated Hunter now that I think about it).

Oh, and thanks for the Mike Fornes stab-from-the-past. Wasn’t he the guy with the Vulcan haircut who was paired with Smokin’ Al?

Was watching this game on the Caps 10 greatest games DVD and couldn’t help but notice when the Caps were down 3-0 there was a women being picked up my the mic yelling about the team being a bunch of quitters. Another thing that seems odd now that if I watched this yesterday I probably wouldn’t have noticed.
Amazing Game
The Caps actually fell behind 2-0 after 1, and the Flyboys scored early in the second to go up 3-0. The Caps came back and rallied for a 4-3 lead in the third until Brad Marsh (who scored a grand total of 23 goals in 1086 games in his career) tied the game late in the third to send it into OT.
Larry Murphy then sent Hunter in alone thanks to a great pass and a poor line change by Philly and Hunter was not going to be denied.
After the game ended, they had to tell people they had to leave on the speakers… no one wanted to leave, frustrated Caps fans wanted this moment. This is quite possibly the greatest moment the Caps have had on home ice (Juneau’s goal to send the Caps to the Finals, and Druce’s goal in 1990 to beat the Rangers were both on the road).
