So I went back and took a gander at Ovi and Crosby production versus the playoffs, and how it compared to the total number of goals their respective teams scored to see how the argument that Ovi lacks the support Crosby enjoys stacks up...
20 (2007-2008)
41 (2008-2009)
22 (2009-2010)
23 (2010-2011)
TOTAL: 106 goals
Penguins:
10 (2006-2007)
61 (2007-2008)
75 (2008-2009)
42 (2009-2010)
TOTAL: 188 goals
So in 37 games, Ovechkin scored or had a hand in 47.12% of all goals the Caps scored in the playoffs. By contrast, Crosby scored or hand a hand in 43.62% of Penguins' playoff goals (leaving aside the 2011 playoffs, of course). In terms of goals scored, 23.5% of the goals the Caps got were off of Ovechkin's stick. Slightly less than 16% of the Penguins' goals during the playoffs came from Crosby.
So my question to you all is, do you find these numbers significant? Does this bolster the case that Ovechkin doesn't have the supporting cast that Crosby does, or are these differences just not enough in your mind?
