Hershey injury update per Leone – Ryan Potulny is out after double sports hernia surgery, reported estimate is he will be out 6 weeks.
After the loss last night and Holtby’s back to back starts, the Hershey watch today is whether or not Sabourin is returned and whether or not Grubauer gets his first start.
Also, SC lost to Toledo 3-2 last night and plays at Chicago today.
6 weeks is extremely optimistic for that kind of procedure. He may heal, but he’ll take longer to get up to game speed. It is better to be cautious with those.
Obviously, this is all speculation.
Good gracious, that was a satisfying 10 days of puck: stealing another game in PIT, overcoming a good roadie from a desperate OTT, three straight 3+ goal diffys, and beatdowns of two of the NHL’s elite. What’s for breakfast?
Cross check and all call.

Mine can’t handle it, more than 1 Dimagus gif means a thread I can’t visit :( I like this version where it’s on the sidebar in a fanpost so those who want them and can enjoy them, have them, but it doesn’t interfere with my reading the recap.
Is there any way to see just one? My computer freezes when I go to the fanpost with all of them running at once….
Given how much work he had to get all those angles of all 7 goals…I feel like Dima would tell you to upgrade your computer hahaha ;)

Aside: any Sunday breakfast that does not involve flesh of the dead swine is lacking. Clips are great, but Clips and bacon is better.

Was at the game…Who was the detroit writer referring to when he said it was bad enough that Joe B and Chewbacca’s inbred cousin were announcing the game? Was it Laughlin?
I went to a fight, and a hockey game broke out!
That was Winging It In Motown. Reading the comments is kind of depressing.
"Don't mind WM...he's an all-around jerk."
They usually are. Their writers are usually top notch, but their commenters tend to be just so utterly negative for the most part, and I think it’s a big reason of why I try to stay positive and if shit looks really just overtly negative I pipe up on it. It’s almost impossible to read through their comment threads without just feeling down afterwards.
"Don't mind WM...he's an all-around jerk."
I avoid Winging It, in general. not a fan of their commenters, and I find one of their writers in particularly to be exceptionally grating. But my curiosity got the better of me today. Wow.

I just read their Common Sense Scoring Index (CSSI) review for this game as well as the explanation post. I like what their trying to do with that. Not really #fancystats but more like #deeperstats ? This seems worth keeping track of, at least for a while.
In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.
I like it, but it’s seemingly pretty arbitrary, and I disagree on several points he makes. He also is just whining about the refs for more than one bullet, and the crowd is more interested in bashing Caps fans than the post he had just made. It’s lost on them.
"Don't mind WM...he's an all-around jerk."
Man what a great game last night. I’m loving Vokoun. I don’t think I’ll ever truly believe that he signed for $1.5 million. What a gift of a signing.

by Davethecapsfan on Oct 23, 2011 11:11 AM EDT reply actions
Varly is always going to be impressive in that phase of the game as long as he is healthy. It’s not like playing the angles and being square to the shooter as in the real hockey portion of the game. His athleticism, reflexes and explosiveness will serve him better than the more technical approach of, say, a Michal Neuvirth (who is no schlep in terms of reflexes and such, but it’s not the core of his game).
If you've read this far...seek help.

I am still stoned from last night. What a pleasure this team is! To have four – count them, 4! – quality lines and, almost literally, a perfectly balanced defense. Oh, and I haven’t even mentioned the goaltending. The only plus I haven’t seen discussed too much was Knuble. I thought the old man would be tapering off this year, but he has been everywhere on the ice….forechecking, backchecking, passing. I wonder if his leadership on the 2nd line has helped Marjo this year; I seriously doubt if it is a coincidence. And, to think, that the chemistry between Marjo and Semin, which we have seen glimpses of, is still developing.
I'm calling this month "Red October".... hopefully we finish the month off with a pair of wins

I thought it was interesting that they posted the following stats on who fans in this area were fans of in each sport.
75% hockey fans in this area are Caps fans
Slightly under 50% of football fans in this area are Redskin fans
Between 30-40% of baseball fans in this area are Nats fans.
Interesting that the Caps have the largest percentage of the fan base for the sport.
(There were other interesting stats cited as well but this one stood out to me.)
Rocking the Red for teams on the banks of the Potomac and at the Gateway Arch and Singing the Blues about Hockey.
It is interesting but easy to explain: theyre the best team in the area right now and its not even close. So if you even remotely like hockey, chances are, youre a Caps fan.
and if you grew up in a non-hockey town, or simply didn’t pay attention to hockey growing up, it’s all the easier to adopt the Caps. It’s still easier to grow up indifferent to hockey than baseball or football.
Pledge Drive 2011-2012: CARSON KOLZIG FOUNDATION!
I grew up in DC. Didn’t pay attention to caps until age 21, when my dorm roommate watched some games. Before that could name maybe two caps players. Not a single hockey fan in my large extended family. Can’t say I remember ever having a friend who followed hockey, except for that one kid in 8th grade who complained to the PE teacher about not being able to check people to the ground when we played floor hockey. I thought he was crazy.
ahahaha!!!
Exactly. If you live around here and you were indifferent to hockey, the teams attractive style of play and success makes it easy to adopt them. Ive been a fan since I was 8, so im happy people have been coming around these last few years.
My story is as follows. When I moved to the DC area, there was no pro hockey. I had moved there from St. Louis just before the Blues started there. But I had initially adopted the Blues as my team. Then college came. I probably paid less attention to sports in general during the early part of college but was more sports minded my last two years when I started dating an uber sports minded person.
So college graduation came. We got jobs. And one day, my boyfriend suggested going to a Caps game when the Caps were in their 2nd year of existence so we went and the rest was history.

SIGH. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrock.
…but yeah, pretty insignificant trade overall. I liked Bruce Arthur’s comment on Twitter earlier today – what’s French for ‘rearranging the deck chairs’?
The definition of being a Caps fan is watching the same team over and over and expecting different results.
Don’t you feel bad, just a little, for Marco Sturm? He’s been tossed around quite a bit now.
You perhaps knew me better as "Your Nation's Capital." Same great commentary, now with 100% more transparency!
I do, a bit. He seemed like a good guy. It’s a bummer to sign a contract and settle in, and a month later you’re on the move.
Don’t try to figure Sasha out. Just ride the wave.
I would feel that way, myself, if I were an NHL player and got traded. Yes, it’s an occupational hazard but….
The more “left brained” players would probably be more upset with a mid-season trade as they tend to want to plan things and know where they are. The more “right brained” ones can roll with the punches better, in that regard.
Rocking the Red for teams on the banks of the Potomac and at the Gateway Arch and Singing the Blues about Hockey.
Whenever I almost feel bad for an NHL player for a trade, I remember they’re making at least 6 figures to play a game.
I never feel bad for someone getting traded.

Last night I had to play boyfriend and miss the game to go out to dinner...
one of my roommates lives and breathes the Wings, so apart from being glued to my scorecenter app (which, I think my girlfriend was getting bitter, apparently “etiquette” at the dinner table is important……) but having my buddy continuously send me txts of “god dammit….” or “I don’t even know why we keep a backup goalie” practically made for a perfect night.
Last night was a statement game in my eyes, and though it seemed like everything that had a chance of going in, did, what I noticed more was that they did not let up off the gas and put them away like any contender should.
My only fear with this team is peaking at the wrong time. But if you want to know where you stand as a squad, playing Detroit is usually any teams best scale. So pardon my homerism, but we’re damn good.
And yes female Japers’ subscribers, I probably am a crappy boyfriend…
