Bolts - Cats
We are getting Florida after playing last night, which is nice, and we can only hope they don’t get nine power plays against us. Five of nine was not too shabby, eh?
What’s going on with Tampa Bay?
Hopefully the Kitties are tired from scoring so much. Regardless, they’re clearly not last year’s Cats.
As for Tampa… LOLoson.

Boucher is taking a page from Bruce’s book about putting a positive spin on a negative, saying after the game that they won the game on 5v5, but they just didn’t execute on the PK. Technically true, but…..
Heaven help the PK folks at their next practice; he’s one scary dude.

how long before the tough guy/hard ass things burns out on the players? Seems like you get 2-3 years out of that before players stop responding to it.

I’m not sure he’s a complete hard ass, the players don’t seem to talk about him like he’s Mike Keenan or even Andy Murray. He seems to know how to relate to his players pretty well. I’m sure he can crack the whip when he has to, but I don’t get the sense it’s his go-to move.
Obviously, this is all speculation.
ok, I haven’t studied him enough to know one way or the other. He definitely has the scowl down from the bench of a hard-ass.
Yeah, he’s got the look. But the players say he’s incredibly thoughtful, and he is undoubtedly a sharp guy, so I doubt he doesn’t see the burn out risk of being a constant hard ass.
Obviously, this is all speculation.
And he’s done stuff like eliminate morning skate. I don’t think he rides guys just to ride them. I don’t think he’s in it for the power trip.

Patron saint of quality footwear.
There is a reason why coaches and managers like Mike Keenan, Ken Hitchcock, Billy Martin, etc. get fired every 2-3 years. You can yell at folks to get their attention for only so often. After a while they begin to tune it out. Boucher hasn’t been in Tampa long enough for it to happen (yet) but it will.
Sometimes these sorts of coaches learn to ease up some (Tom Coughlin in football is a good example), but most get hired, have some quick success, even win a championship, and then they get tuned out and begin to fail…

Yeah, when you surrender 5 PP goals and a shortie, you’re losing the specialty teams battle.
Rolo looks horrible. Maybe it’s just a blip or maybe he fell off a cliff. We’ll have to see.
They got red smoking hot at the right time last year, which was nice for them. I suspect the team as a whole has a bit of a “deep playoff run” hangover.
Patron saint of quality footwear.
Maybe a defense whose best “shutdown” guy is Eric Brewer and which is giving regular minutes to Marc-Andre Bergeron and Matt Gilroy really DOES suck? Boy, who saw that coming?
Unleash the Apathy.
Here’s hint…
five goals on 43 shots
five goals on 18 shots
seven goals on 33 shots
That’s Dwayne Roloson’s line in his last three games. To be sure, Tampa’s defense is ugly (any team giving M-A Bergeron 19 minutes of ice time a night is playing with fire; and as a group it is not the most mobile), but maybe someone finally showed Roloson his birth certificate.

So they’ve got room… trade for Nabokov and hope an Isles cast-off can save them again?
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Don’t the Isles kind of need Nabby?
That'll make your weagle wink!
The pants that bind us should be left behind us.
Depends on how much faith you have in Al Montoya… The Isles seem to like him enough to consider him the number one, in which case I guess they have to balance the value of Nabokov’s potential return against his usefulness as a backup goalie.
Personally, I’m hoping he gets traded somewhere he can start consistently. Halak is not cutting it for my fantasy team, and the only other FA goalie options are Dubnyk and Smith.

Who knows. Looking at last season, it seems as likely that you get a shutout as you get a .800. If the Blues D is ever fully healthy he’ll be a stud for sure, as he relies on them a lot to clean out rebounds and limit point blank shots.

And rec’d.
Directly on point:
Boudreau and his staff have been working closely with Ovechkin to help him become less predictable on offense. At least we now know the answer to, “They all have to realize how predictable he’s become, right?”
Ovechkin’s go-to move has been to carry the puck into the offensive zone from the left side, then cut hard into the high slot and use the defenseman as a screen. The past two seasons, defenders have been stepping up on him as an opposing forward applies pressure from the backside, often stripping him of the puck or forcing him into a low percentage shot.
That’s still happening too often and he’s still not using his linemates enough.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
And technically his cavalry had a broken thumb when they went to make that change.
You perhaps knew me better as "Your Nation's Capital." Same great commentary, now with 100% more transparency!
True. But if Nick Backstrom was well-enough to play, he was well-enough to carry a puck and receive a pass – I doubt his injury forced 8 to re-think his selflessness.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
see this is the thing that gives me hope. The coaching staff knows and is working on it. They aren’t just sitting around with their thumbs up their asses dropping f bombs hoping things will change.

And, as I intimated above, you could see it as a reactionary response rather than a critical, pro-active, analysis of his game.
Obviously, this is all speculation.
That’s fine, and the fact that they are working with him definitely is enough to give you hope that things will change. If that’s what you’re in to.
Obviously, this is all speculation.
I wonder if we’ll ever see that translate into a better cycle game from Ovechkin. There’s no reason that line shouldn’t run the most dominant cycle in the league. Again, nothing we didn’t talk about last year.
Yeah, and you’d think Brouwer could make the cycle even better with his speed.
Obviously, this is all speculation.
The Pens announcers actually commented at one point about the cycle the top line had going and that the Pens couldn’t get the puck and then the Caps promptly turned it over, but nevertheless it was noted by unabashed homers for the other team.
Well it happened at all, if even briefly. So that made it notable, compared to the past.

I do think AO has tried to use his teammates more this young season.
Several times he’s carried the puck into the zone, made one hard cut and looked to dish. He’s, um, not the most natural setup guy in the world. In particular his backhand passes lack polish (and given the curve, you can see the challenge).
But It seems to me like he’s at least trying to do something different. Might be why they put Brouwer up there? Give him an opposite wing with slightly better wheels who can get to a good spot to receive a pass?
Patron saint of quality footwear.
Glad to see he’s taking time from making sure he’s clean shaven, endorsing the right stick and making funny commercials to actually care about his game.
Just curious, isn’t improving your game what players do in the off season? I’m getting more and more jaded by the day regarding Ovi.
It isn’t even anger-inducing. It does not seem to be worth that kind of emotional investment. It might not even be disappointing any more. It is expected.

So shooting closer and missing less, but scoring less, would mean the main thing is he is shooting less often, right? Can a direct correlation be made between the amount of reduced ice time and the 5×5 shots he has taken this year vs. past years? Seems sort of ludicrous to do this after 4 games, but it’s what we have, and BB is indicating this is a long-term change.
Terrifically juvenile.
What about misses + blocks (i.e. is he getting more shot attempts on goal)?
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world

I agree with the big thumbs-up on the Rangers sweater. Simple and old-schooly enough for a “Classic.” As for the Flyers, they suffer two things. They’re not an original-six team that can go back to the dim past for a theme like Chicago or Detroit did. And, they haven’t had many changes in their basic design (especially in the logo) since coming into the league (at least Buffalo and the Caps could do that).
They’re stuck with that “Flying P” and orange. Not great for tweaking unless they really wanted to go out of the box with a whole different logo and color scheme (like all black, or black jerseys with orange pants). Then again, they tried a futuristic theme once before and frankly, it sucked.
Maybe they should go all “Cooperalls?”

In the everyone is tweeting the news category and no surprise, a goalie has been called up to sit on the bench tonight, Dany Sabourin.
I had a question related to that. Could Holtby be waiver-eligible at any point this season? I’m just wondering why Sabourin was called up instead of Holtby, since Hershey last played on Saturday and isn’t playing again until Friday.
My mind is all twisted like a peanut.
Holtby is going to be fighting for the #1 job next year in the NHL, getting him some AHL time before the battle royale.
Comrades, leave me here a little, while as yet 't is early morn:
Leave me here, and when you want me, sound upon the bugle-horn
But this doesn’t do anything for that, unless they’re sure Neuvy won’t be able to backup until the weekend. Hershey doesn’t play tonight or tomorrow.
My mind is all twisted like a peanut.
They’re not gonna ride Holtby into the ground and have him drive to DC only to turn around and head back to Hershey.

Don’t want to interrupt his practice routine?
When last we saw him, Holtby was pretty obviously not ready for prime time. So I’d imagine the staff want him to get the maximum amount of work possible, including practice and games.
I don’t know for sure, but if hockey is anything like baseball, there’s no learning at the big league level. It’s all about winning a game. You do your learning and growing in the minors. And that’s what Holtby needed and presumably still needs.

Holtby’s not waiver eligible. And I think they’re calling up Sabourin because they don’t expect him to play. Might as well inconvenience him, and let Holtby keep to his routine in Hershey and get most of the starts (even if there’s no start tonight). Doesn’t do Holtby any good to sit on the Caps’ bench.

Maybe they saw a video of Holtby on the entrance and exit ramps of the highway for the drive, and they feared for the lives of the other drivers on the road. Takes talent to bang the corners of the window that way, with a stick that big. Or maybe that was just him telling the other drivers to stay out of his crease.

As others have noted, Holtby could use some semblance of a routine and practice time. Saw the game Saturday night and not all the goals were due to Holtby, but he didn’t look sharp and I think the up and down and lack of practice at the end of last week contributed.
As far as waivers, he is waiver-exempt right now. However, you have asked a question I have been thinking about and it’s now time to get an answer as it relates to goalies and games played and waivers. There are places in the CBA where games played for a goalie includes being the back-up on roster, but not playing any minutes as a game played for a goalie. I was thinking about this yesterday when wondering which goalie would be recalled as I have never needed to know if this applied for the waiver table purposes for goalies before now; I assume it does, but now is time to confirm. I will get back to you on this after some reading.
By my tracker, Holtby has 14 games where he has played minutes and 17 NHL games where he has been the back-up but not played any minutes in the game for a total of 31 games dressed and on the roster for an NHL game. Even if NHL games played for waiver purposes counts games as the back-up, he has to hit 80GP before waivers would be an issue. Right now the count is either 14 or 31. My notes say he signed as a 19yo and he has one more season after this one of exemption if he doesn’t hit the games played number.
The more I read the CBA the more I think it’s possible it’s only the 14 games played which count, but seeking confirmation towards the 80.
Sk8, since you were at the game, could you see what the hell happened during that first (?) goal when Hanson was laying on top of Holtby for what seemed like forever? Did they get their skates entangled?

Thought it was the second goal, but regardless, Holtby had no chance. Looked like Hanson got locked up in Hotlby’s pads of all things. Not quite sure from my angle. I have some pics from afterwards, the expression on Holtby’s face, ha ha.
Yeah, I wasn’t sure which goal it was. Stuccio seemed perplexed during the call.

Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
I think people comment a lot on this board about cheap-shot artists, or guys who slash or make questionable hits. (A lot of them are Penguins.)
There are a ton of them in the league, and the Capitals have nobody on their team like that. They don’t have a Cooke or a Kaleta or Burrows.
But maybe they should.
Friedman made an interesting point in regard to enforcers and how SE teams don’t carry them. But Atlantic teams HAVE to have one. I wonder if the same thing applies to stick artists and the like.
Pledge Drive 2011-2012: CARSON KOLZIG FOUNDATION! Supporting autism awareness and treatment.
Not sure how much I’m buying Friedman there. The Caps face SE teams 24 times this year. They face ATL teams 20 times. Right? So is there that much less inter-divisional animosity (or that much more ATL-on-ATL violence versus SE-on-SE violence) so as to necessitate one division “needing” enforcers and the other not?
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Agreed. I’d also like to look at how much the respective enforcers even dress. That’s gotta make it even less of a difference among divisions, right?

Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
In the pantheon of egregious boarding penalties, that one looks relatively tame.
All the same, I hope he gets a couple of games.
Yeah, that wasn’t so bad. It was a cross between Letang making a really stupid decision and Burmistrov turning and ducking at the same time. I don’t see that as a suspension.
I think if it is a suspension it’s because Letang continued and extended his arms through the hit. If he had tried to pull back I don’t think anything comes from it.
by Beakers Lab on Oct 18, 2011 11:43 AM EDT up reply actions
Maybe.
The other thing that I noticed is that there wasn’t that much separation between the two players. It’s not like Burmistrov was against the wall and Letang had to take a few strides to get to him. They were both chasing the puck, Letang couldn’t catch up, and he boarded him.
I would’ve given him a 5.
that was the only video of it I could find. Surprisingly difficult to come across that one. There are plenty of the Letang hit on Spezza out there though.

What I don’t get is why it re-appeared as an issue. Why is Brads quoted as being really upset about the whole thing? I understand the whole media angle in bringing it up, but a once sentence dismissal might have been more appropriate from him. Something to the effect of, “I said some things that I regret, I’m sorry and it’s over.”

I suppose it happens from time to time. Maybe it won’t be a forced issue, but you’d have to think that it will be in the back of Hendy’s head everytime he is on the ice. Or maybe not.

Goalie Guild has talked about Markstrom before on his site.
From October 3:
Jacob Markstrom is in a real interesting situation right now. Theodore is struggling and Scott Clemmensen is out for at least a month. As the current backup, he’s on the fast track to earning a full-time NHL gig. I personally feel like he’s not ready for this type of situation, but his performance will be the true testament of whether he’s ready or not. If he wins, he is capable of exploding and could be one of the NHL’s best rookie goaltenders.

FLA lines, per Litterbox Cats
Fleischmann-Weiss-Versteeg
Booth-Kopecky-Upshall
Bergenheim-Goc-Skille
Bradley-Matthias-Carter
Pretty decent looking second line. First line is too soft (Flash) and not skilled enough (Versteeg) for my tastes. Weiss is playing a small tick above his talent level, but I do like his game.
Patron saint of quality footwear.
That’s not a terrible line-up. I agree that they need an upgrade at wing on the first line, but I don’t think it’s Versteeg that necessarily has to go. He’s a good two-way forward that could help out with more offensive-minded linemates.
Versteeg is a useful guy to have on your team, I agree. I think the same analysis applies to him as to Weiss, but to a more marked degree. He’s really a 2W kind of guy, and I can’t really even begin to see him as a legit first line player.
But I agree that the F corps is decent.

Jovo is just not a top-4 guy any more. He got burned by speed several times that I noticed last night. Gudbranson is a gorgeous skater but he could stand to be a bit stronger on his skates based only on one game’s worth of viewing.

Bruce, post-game:
“Every team knows that they’ve got to check this guy and check that guy,” Boudreau said. “We as individuals have to change a little bit of the way we play. That’s why I switched Alex from left wing to right wing because they had [Mike] Weaver out there every time against him. We’ve got to find a way to get around that.”
Did you ever think you’d see the day that Alex Ovechkin would have to be hidden from Mike fucking Weaver?
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
I kind of thought Mike Weaver was the poster boy for defensive defenseman who are very effective at their jobs but don’t get a lot of recognition.
Tortorella: Can I get another question? I went in here in a pretty good mood today, too.
Larry Brooks: So did I.
Tortorella: Well, you obviously f***ed that up, didn't you?
If he wasn’t before, Bruce Boudreau made him that.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
But if he was the poster boy for a good defensive D, why five teams in seven seasons when his salary has never topped $900k?
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Partially because he’s 5’9", I’d imagine. But I’m not remembering this incorrectly – Mirtle highlighted him a couple of years ago as being pretty effective at shutting down opposing teams’ top lines.

I knew only the name going into the game last night – which is usually an indication that he’s a hyped-enough prospect that F&B has mentioned him here – so I don’t know much about him.
He’s a big kid, and I thought he skated beautifully last night. Does have a reputation as a rough customer too?

I noticed three or four times last night where the Bolts looked to have him hemmed in and he created some space and an angle with some really slick edge control to get a lane for a breakout pass (which was accurate).

From SI article on an old Capital
He was one of the most decorated players in the NHL during his 17 brilliant seasons, from 1990 to 2008—winning a Hart Trophy and five scoring titles, and earning seven first-team All-Star selections
Shouldn’t that be “during his 15 brilliant seasons and two in Washington?”

He really loves hockey…except for that part that occurs at the end of the rink where you don’t score goals.
And he skates to keep his legs in shape…until it’s the 3rd period of an elimination game, at which point he becomes too tired to even move those legs.

I think we really have to separate pre- and post-expansion when judging players. There were only 6 teams for 20-odd years.
I could do a Top-3000 list and Jagr would not appear on it, just so you know where I’m coming from.

You’re not the boss of me?
The Top 10 list is a serious listing, though. And if we added in Goalies, which is a legit addition imo, it’s not even close for Jagr.
Patron saint of quality footwear.
The biggest thing in his favor was that, for about 6 years, Jagr was the greatest threat to score on every shift. He was bigger than nearly everyone else. He was more talented than nearly everyone else.
And then he was traded to the Capitals.

Bure could beat you with speed, Selanne with his shot, Forsberg and Fedorov with their overall game. I don’t think they were as frightening on the ice as Jagr.
No, they weren’t. Not as offensive forces. But Foppa and Feds were more complete players by miles.

Obviously, but their two-way play (which was amazing) wasn’t enough to overcome Jagr’s offensive superiority.

Think about it this way. The Sabres were expanded into existence in for the 1970-71 season. In their third season they were in the playoffs, and they played in the Finals in their 5th season. Here’s an interesting one for you – Niedermayer. Unquestionably one of the best defenders ever, but played a bunch of time in Lidstrom’s shadow. Also, playing the tail end of your prime with Pronger on another pair means that you get some easier minutes than you otherwise might.

Niedermayer is a tough one. I love the guy but he no doubt was put in a lot of great situations playing with Stevens and Rafalski in front of Brodeur (and behind a stifling trap) and then as part of the two-headed Prongermayer monster. Although he is basically a prototype for the ideal post-lockout defenseman.

How so? Bourque was terrific, but Coffey’s numbers were phenomenal. For all his failure in his own end (and it was pretty big), he was an offensive juggernaut. He scored a point-per-game in the playoffs over his career (196 in 1994).
Bourque was the second best offensive defenseman at the time, while also being the best defensive defenseman. He was the best all around defender for probably ten years in his prime. I don’t think there’s a question about who the better hockey player was.

Best all-around defender? You’re nuts.
And Coffey and Bourque pretty much played the exact same career (80-01 for Coffey, 79-01 for Bourque).
Well, Langway was better for a bit and you could make an argument for Chelios. But Bourque really was an incredible player and you’re giving him short shrift. If I want to win something, I want Bourque over Coffey every time.

Hockey-reference now has similarity scores and Adjusted Point Shares (similar to baseball win shares). Jagr blows most of those guys away. I don’t know much about this stat — and it’s something that I just discovered today — but compared with Sakic, Yzerman, and the others, he’s behind really only Lemieux and Gretzky. Phil Esposito had a better peak, but not career.
Look down near the bottom of Gretzky’s page:
I completely disagree on Brodeur. Very good, not great. Longevity and an incredible defense in front of him. He’s not in Roy or Hasek’s league.

Eric Lindros on concussions
I know it sounds ridiculous but sometimes the worst person to ask is the person who is concussed. I mean, you know when you’re flat out out. Yup. Incredibly irresponsible, especially coming from the team’s PA rep.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
By definition there’s plenty of gray area related to concussions and everything about this, but I was very surprised by his comments. Sure sounded like PA talk.
It’s like saying a grown man should be able to get up and walk-around instead of having a collar put on when there’s a possible neck/spinal injury. Yeesh.
The thing that struck me about it is how unaware it is with regards to fringe NHLers. A guy like Laich, sure, he can wait around and play when he feels 100% (theoretically). But a Jay Beagle? A guy who’s fighting for a sweater? He’s gonna get to “good enough, I think, maybe” and play. Hell, Perreault essentially said he played through a concussion after the hit in Carolina and hid it from the team.
These guys literally are incapable of making informed decisions on this matter – the League has to take the call out of their hands as much as possible.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Did Perreault say that he hid it, or that he didn’t realize at the time he was concussed? Of course, either answer is sufficient evidence for why a hit player shouldn’t make the call on his own brain health.

I don’t know how that could be any more damning unless it didn’t include “I think.”

"I really don’t care about that awareness stuff. To be honest I’m sick of hearing all this talk about concussions and about the quiet room," Laich said Friday. "This is what we love to do. Guys love to play, they love to compete, they want to be on the ice. How do you take that away from somebody? We accept that there’s going to be dangers when we play this game and know that every night that you get dressed.

No, no… you have to say it three times in front of a mirror. And then, if you do, the ghost of Stephen Whyno will appear behind the Caps’ goalie and haul him down when the puck is in the Caps’ end.

because I enjoy every opportunity to smack (smake?) down the smug superiority of incredibly wrong red Wings fans, I present to you this little gem by the Chief at A2Y:
If it’s as simple as swapping Winnipeg with the Wings, putting us in with Ovechkin and the three expansion sisters? Great. Do it.
Yeah, about that? Carolina isn’t an expansion, they’re a relocation (sort of like of the Red Wings came to be). And come on over. Because it’s not going to be a cakewalk.

Roughly 2 hours until FLA starter is announced..
encase it happens to be Markstrom who may be relatively unknown to you guys here in Washington a brief rundown on him (since you clearly don’t need one if Theo happens to start lol)
Jacob Markstrom (6’4 185lb) He might be a little underweight but in goalie standards all that does is make him quicker, and he definitely is QUICK. After watching a few replays of him from his time in the Swedish Elite League it seemed like nothing could get past him, and in face very little did in his first season there posting an impressive (in Euro standards) 2.01GAA. He became the youngest starter in SEL history I believe and practically carried his underskilled team into the Playoffs. Was awarded best goaltender in the 2009 World junior Championship despite not winning the Gold (Silver second place finish) Also named rookie of the year for the SEL in 2010. Made North American debut last season in the AHL getting off to a slow start and finishing strong before his season was ended with knee surgery.
Kid’s the real deal and has stated that he wants to be the best goalie in the NHL World and has been working towards that since he first threw on the pads
A few highlights for your viewing pleasure (even if you hate the Cats which is acceptable check it out) he’s definitely impressive

Clemmensen’s been injured since before the seasons started.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
^ What they said
Chances are soon as Clemmer is back he’ll be back in the AHL to get more starts (experience) and by the end of this season or next year he’ll be ready for the full time NHL spot (Clemmer is a UFA after this season and could be traded at the deadline if theres interest)

Nah. Shoot a lot. Get traffic. Doesn’t matter if it’s Dominik Hasek or Dan Ellis, a guy who’s played a thousand games or one.
As for the Cats’ PP, if the Caps are disciplined within their PK system and don’t spend the whole time chasing the puck, they’ll be fine there, too. I don’t think Dineen has stumbled upon unsolvable PP magic.

and some ill-timed ones, too. Gotta love then your team kills a DOG penalty only to have a guy hook someone 5 seconds later. Essentially a 4 minute PP for the Cats, which they cashed in on.

ha, it’s not that crazy to navigate for game by game player stats, well at least not for the current season; didn’t spend anytime to find the historical info.
ok, yeah not so hard, here’s Johansson’s game by game info. for his last season in the SEL
For example, on 10/17/09, he had an assist on the power play against Brynas; looks like Markstrom started the game, btu Lack played also?
5 games against Brynas that season…looks like that was Johansson’s only point. I love the visual point display.
and here’s the link to the 08-09 season stats for Johansson; again 5 games; points in 3 of 5, look like all goals.
It was. Now I just need to figure out what it means when there’s an “A” listed under goals/assists in a game. Dang translated websites.
My mind is all twisted like a peanut.
Mackan had 3 of his 5 goals in 2008-9 against Brynas, and 1 assist in 2009-10. I think Markstrom played in all of the games where Mackan had a goal, but I can’t find game-by-game goalie stats.
My mind is all twisted like a peanut.
Guess I did read it right. I find it very amusing that Farjestad had 3 M. Johanssons on the squad in 2008-9 – Mikael, Martin, and Marcus.
My mind is all twisted like a peanut.
Thanks for the info. Is Mikael related to them? Or is that just weird coincidence?
My mind is all twisted like a peanut.
Thought that might be the case. Did you ever see Mackan play against Markstrom?

Not necessarily. I just know I watched the Bears get frustrated by Markstrom in the home opener, and after that I didn’t keep track of when MP85 was up with DC or back on the farm when Rochester came a’calling.

What do you know? Letang gets two games. Per Dreger on twitter.
Don’t try to figure Sasha out. Just ride the wave.
I like puck daddy’s coverage of the hit (no update on the suspension yet)
The Penguins broadcast managed to cram a lot of comedy into that one clip. We can’t decide if we like Bob Errey’s “Burmistrov lost his footing” claim or his “there won’t be any further call anywhere” prediction better. We’re also quite fond of the camera cut to Matt Cooke(notes) during a discussion of boarding penalties.
Thanks for the link – that’s the first time I’ve seen the hit. I’m not surprised about the suspension after seeing that.
My mind is all twisted like a peanut.
I eagerly await Mario’s response on how he’s going to clean up his team.
