Flash Out For the Season...
Former Cap Tomas Fleischmann is going to miss the rest of the year due to pulmonary emboli... scary stuff. It's a condition that can be fatal.
From the article:
"The nature of his condition requires him to be on blood thinners for several months and he will be unable to play hockey during this time," said Avalanche team physician Dr. David Mellman. "Tomas’ condition was discovered this afternoon when he was evaluated for shortness of breath."

poor guy
Like g-strings? Like f-holes? If so, orchestra may be right for you!

Chowdah Chatter - an outlet for my random thoughts and such.
He had blood clots that kept him out early last season. I seem to recall the long plane ride between the US and Europe was identified as the culprit.
I’m glad that it was caught before it was too big of a problem, but I wonder if this is going to continue to be a problem for him, particularly in the thin air?
This is horrible news for him as it seemed things were going well for him there. He seems perhaps predisposed to this condition. Good thing they caught it because those are deadly. That was the danger with the one in the leg that it would travel to the heart or lungs. Someone on here wondered after the trade if the lengthier travel would contribute to this condition again. Hard to say. My youngest son has been following his stats all season and now I have to tell him the bad news when he gets home from hockey practice tonight. Please recover, Flash!
scary scary stuff. best wishes for a recovery and hopefully resuming hockey.

Sorry to hear the news on Flash! He’s had so many medical problems. Pneumonia two years ago. Then the deep vein thrombosis in his leg. And now the pulmonary emboli. Usually a problem that I’d associate with the middle aged or the elderly, not a pro-athlete who’s less than a year older than my first child. (And here she’s actually taken several long plane flights in the last few years.)

That is really terrible news

Now I’m no doctor, but I wonder if the altitude isn’t a factor in this.
The guy is Peter Schumpmaker. Lord knows what a schump is, but you can bet your bippy his ancestors made them. What he's doing is far worse than crafting fine schumps.

Denver Post has some more details. A blot clot in each lung.

Damn, he seemed to be fitting in well in Denver, and I was so happy to hear he got his first hat trick last month. Get well soon namesake, and lay off the fried foods.
…Geez, I feel sick just thinking about those clots. Scary stuff indeed.

I’m betting his condition is genetic.

I think so too. If he’s predisposed to excessive clotting, he really needs to avoid fried food, more so than most people.

I know that would be the case for people with high cholesterol. But I’m not sure if fried foods would be his problem — more as if he’s got a surfeit of factors in his blood that cause excessive clotting.

This is just terrible news for Flash. I was so pleased for him that he brought the Avs the offense they needed—the trade being a win-win for both teams. Thank goodness the emboli were caught before they killed him. i wish him a speedy recovery (likely six months on blood thinners), and very much hope that he does not have genetically sticky blood but just a bit of bad luck with excessive plane travel.
Alright, confess-how many goals are you going to make this year?
"I'm not going to tell!"
Well can you at least guarantee fifty?
"No way. I have a different objective. To win."
Wow. Awful news! :-( There aren’t words that someone hasn’t already said… poor guy!
