The Noon Number
11 - shots on goal taken by Marcus Johansson in his last four games, equaling his shot total from the previous seventeen games. He has three goals during that span, compared to one goal in his previous seventeen.

You've been chosen as an extra in the movie adaptation of the sequel to your life- Stephen Malkmus, 1997.

The decision to keep Mackan up with the team in the NHL this year is looking very much to be the right one at this point.
Everything ends badly...otherwise it wouldn't end.

With the injuries to Semin, Bradley, and Fehr, are we going to be keeping Beagle and A. Gordon for a long time also?
Probably. Or are we going to run into the “10 game” thing and need to put one of them on waivers if we send them down. We’re getting close to 10 games played for them and will likely exceed that limit since none of the injured guys will make the current road trip.
Question. When everyone’s ready to return, who should we keep and who should we get rid of?

I’m not sure if I’m remembering this correctly, but don’t waiver clocks work differently if someone is called up to fill a position where there’s no uninjured player available to fill it? Would that come into play here?

I think you’re right that if it’s an emergency recall the clock doesn’t tick, but I’m not 100% positive.
Drunk Guy: "Alex Ovechkin is playing more like Magic Johnson than Michael Jordan this year."
Laichitor: "He has AIDS?"
Just read up on the emergency recall rules in the CBA.
*They apply when the team drops below 12 forwards (or 6 dmen or 2 goalies) due to injury or suspension. recall lasts until injured players return
*Caps started season with 14 forwards / traded flash for a D and called up perreault / and semin-fehr-bradley injured = 11 forwards
*does that make Beagle a regular call-up and A. Gordon an emergency?
A. Gordon would definitely be the emergency. Beagle has a ways to go before he’ll be subject to waivers. I think Malin had it figured out a while back and it’s something like 50 games. He won’t hit it. Gordon would have to go through waivers after his next game if he’s not on emergency recall.
"It's always good to have vikings."
"The Caps fan doesn't say, 'is the glass half full' or 'is the glass half empty'. He wonders when the glass is going to spill."
I’d prefer to see Beagle stay up over Gordon, this season at least. He just seems more NHL-ready. Gordon has 9 games this season, so I wonder if he will stay up any longer. Beagle is already at 14.
There is no problem a hammer cannot either fix or make irrelevant.
You’re right on Beagle in that his chances of remaining are better than those of Gordon — at least this year. In past years, I recall how Beagle would play very sparingly in his callups (and they would often be losing causes). But now he’s an integral member of the team.
In any case, it appears our callups are safely in Washington for at least another week since none of the injured will make the road trip. Beyond that, there’s no Fehr for at least 3-4 more weeks from today and no Bradley for at least 1-2 weeks. Bradley has been skating. Semin has NOT been skating.
Given all these facts, the callups are safe for at least this week and probably next week and some even longer.

So, like uh, he has to, like, shoot more then?

The kid had some really good chemistry playing with OV on the first line. His speed and puck control really made a difference in getting good scoring chances for the top line yesterday. Nicky has been struggling entering the zone this year, which has really affected the effectiveness of the top line. But if the Kid continues to play at the level he did last night, I say keep him there.
We’d still be facing a huge hole in 2C, but at least the top line would be scoring (hopefully) again. Johansson’s problem at 2C is that his face-off skills need work more than anything else.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but they jumbled the lines a few times in the 2nd and 3rd period and one of the last combinations was still Ovie with Johansson, except they had it as 8-90-22 and Backstrom was downgraded to be our 2C?
So, our candidate for 2C is becoming the candidate for 1W or 1C until Backstrom gets his act together, then he’s still the candidate for 1W or 2C?
A few times? For about ten minutes, no player seemed to skate on the same line two times in succession.
If you've read this far...seek help.
Agreed — when I saw the 8-19-90 start, I asked someone next to me whether that line would make it through the second period.

So what kind of dice are you rolling in that diagram. Nonahedron shaped?

Would have to be dodecahedron, I think. 12 forwards, 12 sides.

I’ll repeat my commenting in the threads and think they should make him AO’s permanent RW, especially if he can start hitting the net when wide open :-).

It wouldn’t be a bad idea for the rest of this season. We’re only at the half way point in the season and the SEL only plays a fraction of the games the NHL does so it may work out better for his endurance.
The defensive aspect of his game is on target, more time with Backstrom and Ovechkin may get MJ90 more accustomed to the pressure/aggression of a scoring line and help 8-19. It wasn’t just last game Ovie and Mojo have had synergy.
Bruce Boudreau when asked about Brooks Laich's return to the lineup, he said: "He just adds another dimension to our team. If it was puzzle, he just fits that thing. He completes us."
