Francois Beauchemin
I was reading on Bleacher Report that Toronto may be looking to trade Francois Beauchemin. They are currently over cap and have a surplus on defense. He has a cap hit of 3.8 million through 2012. Does anyone think that he would make enough of a difference for the Caps to make an offer?

I don’t know much about him, but I think I’ve heard his name mentioned here as a player some people would like to get. I don’t know what Toronto would want in return though. They are barely over the cap ($274K according to capgeek), so they could take some salary back.

$3.8M is a little expensive for my liking...
I’d rather wait to make a move at the deadline…

Yes, please: solid S@H defenseman, plays tough minutes with low PIM’s. He immediately steps into our top 4…not at a bargain, but at 30 with two years left, a manageable deal. Flash makes good sense for the Leafs, too.
back to cool special
All the way down with this; if Carlson and Alzner are both having nights where they need the sheltered minutes and zone starts, Beauchemin gives the Caps the option to pair them together and roll some combination of Green/Beauchemin/Schultz/Poti as top-4. We already know that Erskine is going to need the kid glove treatment on a lot of nights, so not having three defenders that need limited and soft minutes is a huge boon to the lineup, especially if keeping Green fresh over the course of the season is a major goal.
The guy is a legitimate 3D and forces everyone not wearing 52 down the depth chart on the Caps blueline. If he could be had for a reasonable price, I’d be very happy with that trade.

How the hell does a team as bad as Toronto get over the Cap???? That’s the question the ownership has to be asking Burke and co.
