But, don’t you mean “verbally conveyed”…?
by mechanicsville on Sep 24, 2010 10:58 AM EDT up reply actions
In usual usage, verbal means ‘spoken or written in words’. And oral, the less inclusive term, just means ‘spoken in words’. These sense distinctions match the respective etymologies: verbal from Latin verbum, meaning ‘word’, and oral from Latin os, meaning ‘mouth’.

Anybody know if NSH will stream the game tomorrow?
Why wouldn't you play Perreault? He's a really talented young player.
I haven’t seen any indication of any tv coverage. Interesting that Nashville is playing 3 games in 3 nights (last night Carolina, tonight at Carolina, and tomorrow against Washington.) The team site did have a game blog running during the game last night, but obviously, it focused on the home team. Nashville’s Training Camp/Preseason info.
Also, I believe Nashville doesn’t have all of its regular season games televised, so I’d be very surprised if a home preseason game was on tv down there; there’s a whole series of fanfest events going on this weekend designed to bring people to the rink.
My comment did respond to the question about a stream…Yes, I know sometimes a jumbotron feed gets streamed but there is no indication that is in the plans from the information I provided above.
There is no indication it will be televised, no indication of any stream for the first game or the away game tonight (that I have seen), and no indication there will be one Saturday night as of now; the only thing I have seen is information about blog updates.
Speaking of crazy preseason schedules, has everyone seen how Tampa started the preseason? INSANE:
Tuesday, September 21 – Dallas Stars (in Dallas)
Wednesday, September 22 – Chicago Blackhawks (in Winnipeg)
Thursday, September 23 – Edmonton Oilers (in Edmonton)
Saturday, September 25 – Calgary Flames (in Calgary)
Obviously after that they’re off until the 1st, when they play back-to-back games in Florida and Tampa, but still.
If anyone needs me, I'll be at Kettler.
The three games in three nights are essentially “split squad” games though, right? I imagine the schedule is harder on the team’s training staff than the players.
Oh, for sure…this is not a schedule you’d be able to do in the regular season with a 23-man roster. Still kind of insane, and my guess is they at least all had to travel together – or book some guys on commercial flights rather than ride on the charter.
But yeah, murder on the training staff for sure. I’m sure they’ll be happy to see this week end.
If anyone needs me, I'll be at Kettler.
What exactly is this “split-squad” stuff?
by red army line on Sep 24, 2010 9:32 AM EDT up reply actions
Borrowing from baseball spring training – when you’ve got so many players in camp that you can field two teams, you send one to one game, the other to another. So while it’s back-to-back games for the organization, few if any players will be playing both.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
When the Caps played Columbus, it was a completely different Jackets team than the previous night, for example.
Why wouldn't you play Perreault? He's a really talented young player.
Right. They’ve been doing an even more condensed version of that for other teams, too – playing home-and-home series at the same time. Calgary and Vancouver did that a few days ago, and I believe Edmonton did as well.
If anyone needs me, I'll be at Kettler.
LA usually does it every year. I think Phoenix, too.
Why wouldn't you play Perreault? He's a really talented young player.

Indeed, yesterday there were two LA-Phoenix preseason games. I suspect more veteran NHL players were at home, and more AHL-bound players were on the road in that set…

Hey, I read through the OFB article about the new media policy (which was a pretty good read). Can anyone comment on whether that policy changes anything for Caps bloggers? Does the policy restrict a team’s ability to give a credential to bloggers if they want to?
OFB makes it sound like they can no longer interview other teams’ GMs (like they interviewed Brian Murray last year) and that just sounds crazy to me. What’s going to happen if they interview Brian Burke this year? Would OFB be disciplined somehow? Would Burke? How would the NHL stop a thing like that?
Atta dinnin stick a who!
It also sounds like if one of our bloggers travels to an away game, he/she can’t get into the Caps’ locker room. Correct?
"It's always good to have vikings."
And again, my question is: what happens if the Caps’ training staff opens the door and invites the blogger in? Do the Caps get disciplined?
I get that the goal was to let the Rangers be the masters of their own locker room even when they are not in NY, and I actually don’t have a problem with that aspect of the policy. I generally value letting teams control their own locker rooms (even if they’re going to be stupid about it) above forcing anyone in there that they don’t want. But if the policy is going to restrict teams from voluntarily giving access, that’s crazy.

To all of these questions, I will reply with a stock answer that’s good for ~50% of all NHL-related inquiries: It’s the NHL – they make up the rules as they go.
Honestly, though, I don’t have any idea and it certainly doesn’t seem well thought-out or conveyed.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
To me that kind of speaks to how little this actually impacts most teams – as I understand it there still aren’t a ton of teams that credential bloggers, right? I know the Wild will be doing it for the first time this season but I can’t think of many other teams that do. My guess is it was slapped together because the Rangers brought it up.
That’s not to say that it wouldn’t have been implemented eventually (or that it’s 100% a bad idea) but I’m betting they give it more thought if they’re not trying to just appease a cranky team.
Or not. It is the NHL, after all.
If anyone needs me, I'll be at Kettler.
I think roughly 1/3 of SBN hockey blogs are credentialed for the teams they cover.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
…oh. Really? That many? Interesting. Comment retracted, then, I guess it has something of an impact. I still think they give this (at least slightly) more thought if it’s not done after a team complaint.
If anyone needs me, I'll be at Kettler.
Actually, I think the number is 8 or 9 out of 30, but I’m not sure that there aren’t degrees of credentials being provided.

…when he’s not busy reminiscing about the frozen ponds of Moscow. (Cue the “childhood memories” theme music, and presumably there was a frozen pond or two in Cole Harbour, NS)
I can’t wait for the inevitable montage of a young toothless Ovi walking the grey streets of Moscow to the rink on a cold winter’s day…beating up young Muscovites and taking their lunch money along the way. Meanwhile on a peaceful day in Cole Harbor, young Sidney strolls down the tree lined streets to the local pond. Once again, he offers up his skates to a young ‘un who can’t afford his own and plays all day in his stocking feet.
Just trying to capture the spirit of the thing...
Meanwhile, in Soviet Russia…
8 year old Ovechkin sits, strapped in a utilitarian metal chair, in a cold, sterile room. The grungy tile on the wall and flickering fluourescent lights evoke the feel of a Cold War bunker. A 35mm projector shows him clips of the greatest Russian players. The loss at Lake Placid is especially brutal to watch. The 2 or 3 frame interstitials of crushing knee-on-knee hits subliminally seep into his subconscious. Katinka Ingabogovinanana manages the whole macabre affair.

I’m totally with you there. It would be really easy for HBO to spend all their time focusing on Rex Ryan, for example…but they don’t, they focus on the QB and the rookie kid trying to make it and the depth guy and the veteran getting pushed out. It’s great, and riveting TV – and I’m not even close to an NFL fan.

You’re right, I don’t have much exposure to what HBO sport does. That you all are this excited makes me have a wee bit o’ hope for this series. As everyone has mentioned, just the Caps roster alone could make for some fantastically entertaining TV. I just hope they can capitalize on it.

When I heard it was an HBO production I was thrilled. They consistently put out great programs. I haven’t seen the Hard Knocks yet, but I watch a lot of HBO. Their shows are masterpieces of ensemble production. I’m not at all worried that it will be a “Sid and Ovi” hagiographic piece. The other guys in the locker as well as each team’s chemistry and identity will surely be the driving force behind the series.

I’m still fond of my word—hagiography. What do popes, kings, and sports stars share? A tendency for writers to pen hagiographic essays that lack any kind of critical, objective evaluation. Unless it’s a Canadian writer named Cox trying to make money off of a certain Russian sports star. Then it’s the proverbial hack job. I just signed up for HBO yesterday and I got a $10 a month deal for a year from Comcast in Montgomery County. Last night I watched the first episode of Hard Knocks on demand and a movie. I’ll probably keep it through January at least. I already pay Comcast an arm and a leg, but I figured what’s $10 more? I can afford it.
I enjoyed what Alzner had to say in the HMcFanboy blog—seems grounded and mature in his attitude though he’s kept a touch of his superstitious nature.
However I found myself asking what do I expect from Alzner. I mostly had been mindful of keeping my expectations in check with Carlson, that he will have some rookie growing pains. Perhaps from Alzner we could expect a calm attitude, consistency, and solid two -way play. I think he has handled being bounced between Hershey and DC quite well.
Also as long as the team is going with the youth/rookie approach this season perhaps it’s good to start them out as a pairing since they have such great chemistry.
Here’s hoping that Alzner can finally start buying groceries for his fridge.

I love the HBO idea. Love it. Can’t wait to see it. Friends of mine are all complaining that it’s Crosby vs. Ovechkin for the millionth time, but I’m not sure what people expect. For the NHL to become more popular, it has to promote itself with its best talent (Crosby and Ovechkin, the Pens and Caps) and its best characters (Ovechkin).
I really hope we see Crosby unfiltered. He’s not as fake and boring as he is seen in interviews, is he? I mean, nobody’s that dull.
I have to say, I’ve seen a few short clips from that Crosby DVD they put out last year (?) and there were glimpses of him joking with teammates and messing around in practice that made him seem…dare I say it…personable?
I don’t know, as much as we pick on him for his shellacked media image and lack of personality I think he could be interesting in this – away from the interviews and the canned cliche-filled sound bytes and all that stuff. Not that I want it to be all him, all the time, but I don’t want all Ovie all the time, either.
All Bradley, all the time? Yes. :)
If anyone needs me, I'll be at Kettler.
I want to see who Sid is, but……..can he let his guard down with cameras around? Will he be Mr. Tofu all the time? Or is there actually a personality (and none that’s slightly less obnoxious than the few glimpses we have seen) buried under there?
The NHL needs him to be semi-interesting for this. It can’t be the Stoic Sid vs. Crazy Alex show. That would flop. (thank god Professor Bradley will be there to save it!)

Schultz ain’t a star. I do think the NHL should be worried about Semin — he’s more likely than anyone to say something completely inexplicable, since he doesn’t take media/interviews seriously at all.

The thing that this show needs is for talented guys not named Crosby or Ovechkin to come out and be interesting.
Bradley’s funny. I’m sure Matt Cooke is a character. But what people need to see is if Backstrom is interesting or if Malkin has a personality. It’s tough to put your hopes on a fourth-liner who is totally unrecognizable.
Not really. A 4th liner can be the star in a show like this. HBO will follow storylines and people who will make good TV. That isn’t always star players.

No, but look at Hard Knocks. This year, the focus was on Rex Ryan, Revis, Sanchez, Santonio Holmes, and Nick Mangold. They’re either all very good players or very recognizable.
Sure, they pulled other guys in, but it’s still going to focus on the stars and near-stars.
Nick Mangold is recognizable? How many casual fans know who the Jets center is?
They focus more on personalities and storylines. Revis was a focus because of the holdout. Last year it was Bengal’s O-line draft pick who 99% of people wouldn’t know. Hard Knocks always focuses on holdouts because its drama. In past year’s Hard Knocks focused on all sorts of players and coaches. They always try and focus on an assistant coach who is good for TV (Campo, Zimmer, etc.) for example.

I’m a casual football fan and this is what I know about the Jets:
Rex Ryan is a big dude who I think is great because he told off Tony Dungy. (I like him even more after seeing the “Let’s go get a [bleeping] snack!” clip)
Revis who?
Sanchez is a USC guy and quarterback. Slightly more successful than other recent USC quarterbacks in making that transition.
Holmes, I know the name. I think he’s good at what he does, but what exactly that position is, I can’t tell you.
Mangold, yeah, no clue.

If you’re a fan of the NFL, you know who Nick Mangold is. He’s a two-time Pro Bowl center, and one of the best young linemen in the league.
I know plenty of casual NFL fans who don’t know who he is. If you are a hardcore football fan sure you know who he is. I knew who he was when he was in college. You’re missing the point. The point is he was in the series because he was part of the team’s storyline on two occasions. One dealt with snaps and the other was when he signed his contract. Kellen Clemons got as much face time as Mangold.

Of course, in football, you have over twice as many people on a game-day roster as you do on two NHL teams. In a training camp, there are maybe three to four-times as many.
Even dividing focus between the Caps and the Pens, you’re going to have plenty opportunity for lots of personalities to stand out. And, surprise surprise, the guys who are going to stand out are likely going to be the same guys who talk to the media on a regular basis (e.g. Ovechkin, Laich, Bradley, Knuble, etc.).
Really? An NFL roster is 53 men, an NHL roster is 23 (of which 20 dress for any given game). Are you telling me that 4×20 < 53 ?

They have a bunch more guys (not sure how many exactly) during training camp.
Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
Not that many more. The Skins had 84 before their first cuts.
Fantasy Teams: Baby Got Backstrom (Ladies of Twitter) and All's Fehr in the Crease (Six Beers Too Many)

Sorry to self-reply, but it goes like this: You can have as many guys at the start of camp as you like, but you have to cut down to 75 by a given date and to 53 by a second given date. Usually the second date is a day or two after the final pre-season game; the first one is usually after the second or third game.
Fantasy Teams: Baby Got Backstrom (Ladies of Twitter) and All's Fehr in the Crease (Six Beers Too Many)
Hanlon's Razor: Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.
3*23 = 69
4*23 = 92
84 and 75 players fall within “three to four times as many.”
Either way, the point is the same. HBO is working with a smaller number of players here, and should be able to follow multiple storylines on both teams as a result..
But look at what you said.
in football, you have over twice as many people on a game-day roster as you do on two NHL teams.
23 men is one NHL team, not two.
Yes, I’m quibbling and I’m picking on you. By your wording, you’re claiming 4 * 46, not 4*23.
Fantasy Teams: Baby Got Backstrom (Ladies of Twitter) and All's Fehr in the Crease (Six Beers Too Many)
Hanlon's Razor: Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.
Forgive my dangling modifier. The point remains the same; they’re going to have fewer than 53 players, fewer coaches, and fewer hangers-on to cover in this situation, which should give HBO ample time to cover a number of different characters.
The actual numbers are irrelevant with the exception of how they grant a comparison of the numbers of people involved.
The point is fair, just your count completely threw me and I got tangled up in trying to make the numbers resolve. Thanks!
Fantasy Teams: Baby Got Backstrom (Ladies of Twitter) and All's Fehr in the Crease (Six Beers Too Many)

I have no doubt that it’s not going to be all Sid and Ovie. They will be the stars for sure, along with the coaches, but Hard Knocks always focuses on other guys. The training camp element gives them a lot of human interest grist for the mill in guys trying to avoid cuts, but I expect something similar here.
I could see them following Carlson and Alzner and their adjustment to the NHL. Also I can see the goalie battle between Neuvy and Varly being highlighted.
you know the producers are salivating over the thought of getting Laich on camera. They’re probably also hoping Mike Green starts dropping lines about taking a video camera and a stack of ones with him on road trips.

Yeah, man. As was the case with the Flyers last year and the Pens the year before that. With the talent on those teams, they had no business being as low in the standings as they were.
Just saying that coaches are effective until they aren’t, and there’s no real knowing when they start to get tuned out and performance slips.
Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
while I know anything can happen and that’s why the play the game, do we have much reason to believe that something like that would happen? Prolonged regular season slumps are virtually unheard of under Bruce, and even if there were a slew of injuries, we’ve seen in the past that, somehow, the Caps tend to keep plugging away and winning games. Add to that, this is largely the same team. It’s not like they’re trying to incorporate a lot of new players.

See above. I can’t discern any “warning signs” or patterns to when coaches cease to be effective – the team just starts underperforming and can’t get out of it.
I have no real reason to believe that it will happen with BB, though.
Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
in both the Pitt and Philly situations you posted above, there were warning signs. It was a rather well known fact that Therrien was widely loathed in his own locker room. In Philly, they had a team that was known to have an unsettled locker room at times and they threw some rather fiery personalities into that mix during the off season. And the Flyers had a tendency to perform below par until the playoffs under Stevens previously. Even under Laviolette, they performed under par, right up until the playoffs started.

The chance is definitely greater than “none.” That midseason firing thing tends to work with talented, slumping teams, especially in the East. If the Caps falter, BB has no job security.
If the Caps falter
How far? I just don’t see any way this Caps team as currently constituted falling far enough to get Bruce fired midseason.
Eat, drink, and be merry! And then drink some more.
agreed, the Caps could play way way below their talent level and still win their division, do you fire a coach midseason that is winning its division
Aim for the head baby Jesus
I don’t think the difference between fighting for a playoff spot and comfortably leading the division is as large as this string of comments seems to imply it is. Some bad goalie play, a couple of injuries and you’re right there in 9th place. Ask the Red Wings last season. Ask the Flyers. Ask the Penguins. Those teams are all extraordinarily talented and they all have at least above-average depth.
Hell, look at the Capitals in the season that Bruce arrived; was Hanlon a bad coach? All signs point to hell yes he was. But the shots just weren’t going in and everything that got fired at Kolzig or Johnny was squeaking through. Some timely goalie play, some of the shots start crossing the line that didn’t before and bam, playoff berth.
Don’t underestimate the Lightning. If they get lucky, they could seriously outperform what they did last season. All it takes for them is some good goalie luck and a couple of hot hands. There’s no guarantee that the Caps have the division sewn up by the WC this season. None at all.

I’d say that it’s basically impossible that they’ll have it sewn up that early. Even if they have a big lead, how could Caps fans not appreciate the risk of us being the ‘10-’11 version of the ‘07-’08 CAR team. They had a nice big lead around New Year’s and then choked it away. Oh right, the Caps would never choke a healthy lead away…

I don’t want it to seem like I’m attempting to argue that we’ll have the division clinched half-way thorugh the season, because I’m not. I just don’t think the team will be so far on the other end of the spectrum as to get Bruce fired.
Eat, drink, and be merry! And then drink some more.
That was a little hyperbolic on my part, but it’s not out of the question that there’s a huge bunch-up from 6-12 like there was last season, with 6 leading the SE. I don’t think it’s likely, but far stranger things have happened in the NHL over the years.
Will the Caps be leading the division at Christmas or New Years? Probably so; I’d lay money on it up to about 5:1. But things could definitely go wrong in a lot of different ways.

I totally agree with you, but I don’t think BB gets fired if we’re at #6, and I don’t think he gets fired if we’re at #10 if we’re 2 points from #6. I still think he as a long leash with the organization. I could be wrong, but I doubt the situation arises.
Eat, drink, and be merry! And then drink some more.
I think it has to be struggling for a playoff spot. If GMGM sees that things are going in the wrong direction with BB, and thinks BB is part of the cause or that the players have tuned him out, don’t doubt that he will pull the trigger (and I’m guessing replace him with French). Hopefully that won’t be necessary.
I think it’s semantics, but I’m not sure one can really be struggling for a playoff spot by Christmas. Even if you’re in 12th, three straight wins probably puts you right back into it at that point.
Eat, drink, and be merry! And then drink some more.
Fair, although the Caps were doing more than struggle for a playoff spot by Thanksgiving when BB got the job (although I don’t see how that could possibly happen to this team). Perhaps I was wrong before – maybe if it were to happen, it would be based more on how the team is responding to BB than where they are in the standings.
In any event, I think it’s likely that BB’s fate is secure until the end of the playoffs.
I think we’re in agreement. If we have the same record at Thanksgiving as we did in ‘07-’08, of course he gets canned. I just don’t see any way this team is in 15th at Thanksgiving.
Eat, drink, and be merry! And then drink some more.
I don’t see 15th at Thanksgiving, but I could definitely see 9th in February with an injury to Green that kept him out for significant time and some bad shooting luck at both ends of the ice. Knock on wood and pray this doesn’t happen, but it’s definitely possible.

Undeniably possible, but I’m not sure 9th in February is enough for the coach to lose his job. Maybe it is, but upper management all seems pretty hunky dory with each other, at least in public.

I am sure Crosby is not as dull as he seems in media appearances…but I have an anecdote, relayed to me by a Canadian friend, that I want to share. My friend’s friend went on a date with Crosby once, they grew up in the same area and Crosby was apparently into this girl. At the end of their date, they went back to his place, and he proceeded to show her his highlight reel. She wasn’t very impressed and said that he was pretty much a dorkish rink rat; the date ended quickly thereafter.
Now, this is a third-hand story, but I believe it happened and it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s kind of how Crosby is.
that pretty well tracks with what a friend of mine says he’s like (her brother played with Sid until he went to Shattuck-St. Mary’s)

I’m with you. Focusing on the teams with the two most recognizable faces makes sense from a marketing standpoint. I am sure Sid will be interesting, even funny, and though Ovi will still have his outsized personality viewers will see his hard work and his driven, focused on winning side.
Color me excited by both events—the HBO show and the Winter Classic. The HBO show will hopefully drum up even greater WC viewership. I always love it when these two teams face each other—they bring out the best in each other. There’s never a dull moment.
Alright, confess-how many goals are you going to make this year?

Well can you at least guarantee fifty?

Focusing on the two teams also because of the owners. We all know Ted would be about doing new things, more so than say the Rangers would.

First Group Practice this morning
Looks to me like group 1 this morning is the one slated to travel to Nashville for the game tomorrow. Of course, things can change, but the group was 2G, 6D, and 13F. By my count, five players in the group played in preseason game 1: Erskine, Fehr, Laich, Eakin, and Hendricks.
Bouchard Backstrom Knuble (red)
Beagle Aucoin Hendricks (green)
Laich Eakin Fehr Willsie (grey)
GMcNeill Joudrey Pinizzotto (white)
Schultz Green Erskine Fahey Nycholat Poti
Neuvirth Sabourin

Yeah, well, if this roster holds true for tomorrow and of course, we’d expect Ovechkin to dress for preseason home games.
Bouchard has been lined up as a LW each time I have seen practice this week (which is not every practice.) I’ve wondered about that given he’s a RW, but there are a lot of RWs in camp.
That’s definitely the away team. In the interviews surrounding his contract extension, Neuvy said he and Dany were playing on Saturday.

It was an easy assumption that the other 2 goalies would be traveling for this game, but getting a sense of the group I thought might be of interest, which is why I posted the info. :)
It’s obvious that’s the plan unless someone tweaks something (knock on wood), but we’re a day ahead with a game day skate and travel before game time still to go.
Ovechkin, Backstrom and Semin are all staying home – so there’s at least one change to that lineup.
If anyone needs me, I'll be at Kettler.
Thanks for the update. Like I indicated, speculation based on early practice today, relative lack of overlap with game 1 roster and I’d add in the vet count per the CBA preseason game rules.
Udate to the update: https://twitter.com/NHLPredsInsider/status/25424024692
My apologies – following up on earlier – Backstrom now coming, as is Laich and Knuble. No Varlamov
Still a little mind-blowing that the other teams’ fans need instant updates on who’s playing for my team. We really need to appreciate these seasons properly.

Noooooo :( I’m going to practice tomorrow but not until after morning skate, I wanted to see those guys! Crap.

Perhaps trying to sell people on coming down to see a preseason game both to see their team? I guess it depends in part in how many people follow that twitter feed, but I don’t find it surprising in the world of twitter, etc.
Of course, the other side to that argument is they wouldn’t be in a rush to announce Ovechkin not playing. I’m one of those interested in rosters for preseason games in terms of the roster spot fights, etc., and when attending a game, who I might see from the opposing team so I appreciate the information.
Theo talking to MTL? Maybe:
Jose Theodore would be interested in joining the Montreal Canadiens. According to a source close to his agent, Don Meehan, Theo asked his agent to pay attention to the situation of the guards in Montreal. Theo has the right to dream, but it will not happen unless Carey Price escaped from the city. Clan Theodore may think that Alex Auld is so bad that the HC will be forced to find a guard very quickly.

I hope he lands somewhere where he’s happy, and I wish him all the best.

Theo will get a job when some team’s #1 keeper goes down with a lengthy injury. Until then, I doubt he gets picked up. Heck, if Varly or Nuevirth got hurt, I could see George reaching out to Jose.
Do you think he’d want to come back to Washington if that were the case?

That would be either amazing or awful for Theo. I think he’s more talented than MTL’s current options, and could be had for reasonably little money this late in the preseason. But as a francophone, playing in a town that booed their own goaltender in a freaking preseason game, that’s a tough environment.
In any case, if he gets a start against the Caps, I’ll give him a standing-O. He was a class act here, and played well for us.

I just…have a really hard time believing this. If it’s true, he’s REALLY desperate for a job (which is sad and so very wrong considering the crap goaltenders who have jobs) – he did not leave Montreal in a friendly manner and they’ve been horrible to him there, both while he was on the team and after (as we’ve seen).
If anyone needs me, I'll be at Kettler.

I love how many food names people have been using for that guy. For a while after the whole Belanger debacle I actually thought the dude’s name really was Tropicana.

As I mentioned to Becca yesterday on Twitter, you can/should be able sign up for HBO and cancel after a month, depending on your provider and whether you’re locked into a commitment.

I didn’t have HBO and wanted to watch Hard Knocks. The first episode was legally available on a few websites, but after that I had to go with illegal streams that weren’t that great of quality. Honestly, if you are really interested in the series, I would just sign up for HBO for one month. Comcast has a special right now for $10 a month, that’s not too much to pay if you are really interested.
why go with illegal low quality streams when there are illegal high quality torrents?
Aim for the head baby Jesus
ok I am not knowledgeable about that kind of thing. Are they in HD quality? Would they look good if you played them on your big screen HDTV? I guess you can do that sort of thing, but I am lazy and just pay for the legal access. Whatever works for you.
Well, you’d be paying for 3 months if you get it now. If you’re like me and not planning to watch anything but that on HBO, I’d get it right before you need it and pay $16 for the one month instead of $30 for 3 months.

They run those sort of specials a lot. I’m not advocating signing up now if you have 0 interest in anything else on HBO. You could probably get that same special again in December. Comcast told me the HBO channels are normally $19.48 a month.
I signed up now so I could watch Hard Knocks and I like the movies. I’m also particularly lazy so this way I don’t have to think about it again and will have it setup for December. I’m not sure if I’ll cancel after that.
Makes sense. Whichever way works for you.
I need to fix my Comcast setup anyway, but man they’re already ridiculously expensive.

do they have HBO shows available for that? I know in the past that it was really hard to find access to Hard Knocks, you can’t get it through Netflix. NFL network plays it leading up to the next season of Hard Knocks (almost a year later). Maybe NHL network will show it later but I wouldn’t be sure of that. NFL films is heavily involved in Hard Knocks so it makes sense that NFL network would get to replay it.
That Dub Hub link is pretty hilarious. That’s got to be some sort of hometown/sentimental nod for the “top player” in the W. An older player, with literally zero offensive skill, playing forward. Not buying it. How cute, you guys give love to grinders. Now let’s be serious…
