The Washington Capitals - A BritPop Sampler
Inspired by Becca's August 31 QOTD, I decided to make a list of the Caps players and what Britpop song would best represent them--in some cases just the title, in others the song itself. Please note all songs don't necessarily come from the 90s Britpop movement. In some cases (such as The Who or Stones), they were inspirations on the movement. Other bands such as Joy Division or Talk Talk would be more post-punk and/or new wave but hell, they were still British (and you try finding a Britpop song for David Steckel--sure isn't easy). YouTube clips of each song have been included for added enjoyment.
Enjoy,

As head of the Bourque lobby, I feel obligated, though it pains me.

You can have it all but how much do you want it?
You make me laugh
Give me your autograph
Can I ride with you in your B.M.W ?
pretty solid match.

nice selection, but...
where are the mighty swervedriver??? ok – i’m biased because i drummed for them back in 92/93…but you could have picked “hands” for semin….“kill the superheroes” for ovechkin….or “the other jesus” for backstrom. just saying.
nice to see someone giving some love to the boos. great guys…and a great band.
i've worked myself up from nothing...to a state of abject poverty
Thanks for the reply and suggestions (with you on the Boo Radleys love) dingram3. Both "Son of a Mustang Ford: and “Duel” used to get some good radio play on the alternative station here in Toronto in the early 90s. I wanted to add more shoegazer tunes (like many I was a big My Bloody Valentine fan), but with limited time, I didn’t look to deeply into it.

Rec'd
I agree with bigonetimer — nice range, but for all the hundreds of genres and out there, it seems insulting to associate the Caps most closely with brit-pop. With the exception of Coldplay, Radiohead might be the most insufferable band of all time. Schulz should be offended.
Loves me some Joy Division, though.
Anyway, nice post.

Every time Matt Bradley scores a goal, everyone inside the Beltway should get the next day off from work. It's only fair.
Good job foist.

Excellent choices, especially for Carlson. One of my favorite Blur tunes.

Sean, you have no idea how much I love this.
Also, I’m going to do an all-Blur list, just to keep the rivalry going! Stay tuned for that.
