Would the Caps, for example, roll Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom two-on-two?

Why wouldn't you play Perreault? He's a really talented young player.

Since it would just be for the regular season, I’d take Green-Semin

For some reason I’ve got Fehr-Carlson on my mind.

You perhaps knew me better as "Your Nation's Capital." Same great commentary, now with 100% more transparency!

I say go for it with a combination of speed, counter-attack and 1:1 defense

Ovechkin – Carlson
Backstrom – Laich
Green — Chimera

Carlson – Ovechkin. Ovie stands at the top of the left wing circle while both opponents watch him. Carlson skates the length of the ice and hits the no-look game winner. Maybe if it happens enough he won’t have to get tackled each time.

Great minds.

Yeah, if I hadn’t tried to wax philosophical I could have gotten it in earlier. And you have Ovie on the “correct” side.

Green-Chimera is scary fast, but…those hands! The hands of a sturgeon.

As I said — let’s go for it.

I can see Chimera crunching the opponent against the boards in the neutral zone, creating a quick 2:1 counter and Green goes top shelf.

I agree with Backstrom-Semin. They have really good chemistry. Ovechkin is a humongous threat no matter who you put him out there with.

Sometimes, you really just want to hit a b**ch.

Ovechkin – Green
Backstrom – Semin

All about that pair and the next one I’d put up would likely be Carlson — Chimera. There’s so much ice out there at 2 on 2 that I think there’s a premium on speed. Even with his hands, Chimera’d be creating an absurd number of chances for himself. He’s gotta finish one…right?

If you’re the opposing team and you see Ovie-Nicky (or Ovie-Carlson, or, really, most of the combinations we discussed) come out, do you say “Oh shit”? and hope they don’t embarrass you too badly?

Maybe not if you’re the Pens and put Malkin-Crosby out there

NBC would cut away from the weekly Flyers-Bruins game to show Crosby-Malkin vs. Ovechkin-Backstrom overtime.

Flash-Semin
just to see what would happen. . .well other than a 2 man breakaway against poor Varly

It's The Wait for Red October. Except rather than Sean Connery, Alex Baldwin, and Sam Neill, it's George McPhee, Bruce Boudreau, and Alex Ovechkin.

These types of overtimes are fun but I think the timing they have for it is all wrong. In one of the travel leagues I used to play in it would be 3on3 for 5mins, then 2on2 for 4mins, and then 1on1 until they game ended.

The 1on1 was incredibly entertaining and it really allowed for the goalies to come up big.

I look to the future because that's where I'm going to spend the rest of my life.
