Regarding the IIHF article, where he was sightseeing he’s only going to find out-of-town tourists who didn’t know the nation’s capital is also the humidity capital in the summer. I’m out here in Loudoun County, and I see plenty of Red in the nice, air-conditioned malls.
"HISTORY DOESN’T MATTER!!! .... Who cares if it’s never been done? We aren’t those teams who failed before. We are in control of our own destiny, and we will make it happen our own way.." - A Gordon, June 2010
I don’t think you necessarily need to head all the way out to Loudoun County to see Caps fans in the D.C. area. But you’re kind of hindering yourself when you’re visiting parts of the city full of tourists from other places… and it’s the middle of the off-season.
A Capital Wasteland - art & hockey from Washington, D.C.
the entire basis of that article was poorly thought out.
Because now I can justify browsing and commenting during the work day with the argument that I am promoting my business.

A friend of mine from USC came to visit me in DC. Within the first day she jokingly said, “You were serious about people liking the Capitals here. . .”
We went to 2 museums and a bar and saw a very reassuring amount of Capitals Red being rocked.
It's The Wait for Red October. Except rather than Sean Connery, Alex Baldwin, and Sam Neill, it's George McPhee, Bruce Boudreau, and Alex Ovechkin.
Not Tom Clancy, but Gary Bettman. Not the Soviet Kremlin, but. . .well. . . .yeah, the Soviet Kremlin
I´m a out of country guy and know nothing about D.C., but i think its nice that he mention the miracle on ice, as a Swedish kid back then it was awsome to see USA beat the USSR and that was ehat sprked my interest in hockey. Also what made me understand that Americans could play the game and that there was something called the NHL, supposedly better than the SEL.
(as I said, I was a kid ).
No problem… I think we all got the idea of your post. I wish I could see SEL games occasionally, there’s a number of Swedish players all of us here love :)
Never underrate the power of the hissy-cow.
I agree. SEL footage is very hard to find in the US and a lot of it is blocked at the Swedish border. I try to watch videos at SVT,se and there’s a message saying I need to be in Sweden to view the content. Boo. That’s what an internet is FOR.
You perhaps knew me better as "Your Nation's Capital." Same great commentary, now with 100% more transparency!
If you want to watch a SEL match, there is a pay per wiew on the net, – don´t recall exactly th cost but something like 13 dollar – at, http://www.csports.se/
actually, I think yuo would be bored, SEL is an other kind of hockey. Lower speed, more tactical and built on great defence. There is a few stars that eeh..protrudes(is that right word?) tough, like Backstom did in SEL.
Produces is what I think you meant. I don’t mind that kind of hockey, I loved watching Sweden at the Olympics. It would be nice to see some of the players who might get drafted into the NHL. Like maybe future Backstroms or Marcus Johannsons.
Never underrate the power of the hissy-cow.
What I ment is guys that is better then everyone, much better, and dominates the game, its hard to explain when yuo dont know the language as good as you like to do.
A future Bäckström is on his way in Nicks SEL team right now, Calle Järnkrok, sadly drafted by Red Wings. What we have seen from him so far he could even become better than Backs
I see lots of Caps hats and teeshirts where we are near Old Town in Alexandria.
Heck, I wear my Caps hat everywhere and all kinds of people strike up conversation with me about the Caps.
"I’m very happy to hear the news," Ovechkin said when he heard about Backstrom's longterm contract--"because he’s one of the top centers in the world, one of my best friends and we want to play together for a long time. He’s a guy who wants to stay in one place and be comfortable and win, just like me. We talk all the time about playing together, and we talked after the playoffs about how we can win in Washington."

About that Hockey Independent Article…that’s not a knock on him, necessarily. I once asked Coach Boudreau when I got to talk to him about why he had Ovi serve bench minors. He answer was that Ovi doesn’t kill penalties (like Fehr) and given the location of the penalty box, who do you most want on the ice at the end of a penalty to try and swing the momentum? If Fehr is serving more than his fair share of bench minors, it’s very likely for the same reason, and Coach Boudreau stopped using Ovi for that probably (a) to manage his TOI, and (b) because Ovi takes more penalties than Fehr does. Nothing worse for shooting yourself in the foot after a penalty kill than to take another penalty.
Hanlon's Razor: Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.
I remember a few times when Semin earlier this year would be the guy sitting in the box during a PK (for bench minors or when another player; i.e. Morrisonn, was ejected during a major penalty) but now he’s usually part of the PK team since he’s actually one of the better PK’ers.
I remember plenty of times with Ovi in the box during a minor penalty.
Rocking the Red since 1975
Neat.
The Varly helmet’s pretty cool. Reminds me of those pads that are designed to look like the back of the net. =)

Chris Chelios signed with the Red Wings.
In an player development-related job.

Just wanted to say; great Clips today, Emily, but it’s too nice outside to really take an in-depth look and comment extensively. Don’t judge the quality by the number of comments.

Knee high – thank you so much. I hope everyone did get out to enjoy this beautiful day!

Alas I’ve have been helping my 92 mother-in-law clear out her house and move, so no pleasure with the weather and our vacation has been a working one. But your clips and those of this past week have been a godsend as I’ve snuck away for coffee in the morning and a great Caps read. Thank you.

I love that goalie mask link – hilarious. Especially Price and Niemi.
Never underrate the power of the hissy-cow.
Nice pull on Fehr, Em – may borrow that link since I didn’t know Tootoo was doing that.
On the Forecheck: preaching the Predators' gospel to the unwashed masses.
ShaMo contract amount
I hadn’t seen the $ amount posted yet and found it in a Buffalo newspaper article. Great for him, and great the Caps didn’t pay that price for him.
After waiving Kennedy, the Sabres signed veteran defenseman Shaone Morrissonn to a two-year deal for just over $2 million a season. The 27 year-old Morrissonn spent the last five seasons with the Washington Capitals.
Karl Alzner and John Carlson are gonna make you eat those words, haterz.
Show me, don’t tell me.
GMGM’s words about Alzner not playing up because they didn’t want to upset the chemistry of the D were interesting. Currently the Caps look like they’re going into the next season by likely making the D corps younger . Should be interesting.
If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.
You’ve figured out the score?
