It wouldn’t let me put up links in the list, here they are:

2. Mean Lars burries the Habs in game 2
3. Opening chant of “Lets Go Caps” in Game 1 vs. Flyers ’08 [no video]
4. Game winner in the big comeback against the Penguins
5. Ovie makes a fool of Hamerlik and Price
Great. Now I have to change my name to "Jaromir meet Alex".

On TV the playoff clincher in 2008, last few minutes against the Panthers, sounded really loud.

Nice list. I distincly remember that the place was amazingly loud before G7 vs. the Rangers actually started. I asked my friend if he thought they could hear the chanting from the locker room.

Thanks. Yeah, Feds blows the roof off, and it’s not close. That last game in the ’08 season vs/. the Panthers should be on that list, though, and Ovi pantsing Hamrlik and Price should be higher than 5.
Hanlon's Razor: Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.
Wouldn’t argue the Panthers 08 game, I think i a lot of ways that was the same energy for start of the Flyers game, the release of many of fruitless years, and the joy of what was clearly the beginning of a new era.

#4, the comeback win against the Pens, most stunned me not because of how loud it was after the game winner, but by how deafeningly loud the MVP chant was when Ovie rounded out his hat. The place went nuts.
I am a hockey fan first, and a Caps fan second.

Yeah, the MVP chant… forgot about that. That was awesome.
BTW, fun game last night, perhaps someday you get tired of skating with only 5….. I’m just sayin… ;)

I don’t mean this as a threadjack because I love your stuff, but it would be worth your while to give your post a runthrough before posting, as there’s a few typos in it. Don’t get me wrong it happens to the best of us, it’s just a helpful $.02.
Back to your regularly scheduled programming.
"I think he is just a joy to watch, he plays every game like there's not going to be one next week for him, like someone's going to take it away from him next game."
Will do. I think it does shows how much my spelling and grammar suck that this IS proofed. I can do better.

I doubt it would have eclipsed these since Caps fans have (awesomely) gotten a lot louder in recent years, but the loudest I’ve heard it in person was when Krygier scored in OT in Game 2 of the 1998 ECF. I wasn’t there for any of these.
Also, awesome fanpost idea.
I remember that. I only saw that one on TV, wish I could have been there.
Gla you enjoyed it, I take great pride in how loud that arena has gotten, it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside (tho that might be the gin).

I’ve never seen or heard anything like the sustained roar when Feds scored that goal. It wasn’t just load, it last so long. Boswell did a good job capturing it:
Was that the sound of 18,277 people screaming in Verizon Center? Or were they just letting out their breath?
When the Capitals’ devoted but desperate fans finally stopped holding their breath last night, when the seventh and final excruciating game against the New York Rangers was finally over and Washington had won, 2-1, all their pent-up tension, hope, frustration and pride burst forth in a sound like an erupting jet engine — as heard from the inside.
Watching the O’s try to use strategy is like watching Mike Green trying to figure out the difference between "your" and "you’re"--Terpgrrl

My ears were ringing. As loud as Verizon has been before and especially since, that moment is still the loudest for me.
"I’m very happy to hear the news," Ovechkin said when he heard about Backstrom's longterm contract--"because he’s one of the top centers in the world, one of my best friends and we want to play together for a long time. He’s a guy who wants to stay in one place and be comfortable and win, just like me. We talk all the time about playing together, and we talked after the playoffs about how we can win in Washington."

My Top 5
1) Fedorov’s goal vs. the Rangers to win Game 7
2) Calle Johansson sliding a puck into Ottawa’s empty net to eliminate the Sens in Round 2 in 1998
3) Steve Konowalchuk scoring with about 2 minutes left vs. Ottawa in spring 2001 to put the Caps ahead 6-5. The Caps trailed 5-2 with about 12 minutes to go in the game
4) Nick scores the OT winner vs. Montreal in Game 2 last year
5) Spring 1998, Craig Berube scores a goal vs. the Flyers….it’s special because the assist from Dale Hunter was his 1000th point, completing a 4 point night for Hunter (1 goal, 3 assists).
I guess this was limited to the VC. The second loudest moment in Caps history was Dale Hunter scoring the breakaway goal in OT vs. Ron Hextall in Game 7 vs. Philly in 1988…

I remember #5, that one was totally awesome since it was against the Flyers and…well…let’s just say Huntsy wasn’t having that many 4-point games at that point in his career. #2 is another good call.
- was the loudest noise I ever heard at a hockey game up until Feds’ goal in Game 7 in 2009.
The amazing thing was that it was an empty net goal and the Sens were so desperate in pressing that the Caps ended up with a 2 man break away to the empty net. Calle got the puck and was standing just by the crease (you couldn’t be in the crease in 1998) and he waited until someone from Ottawa came close, and then he slid the puck into the net, killing off about 10 more seconds. I bet if the Sens had just not approached him, he would have left the puck there in the crease.
The crowd was screaming at that point “We want Hasek!” as the Sabres were up next….

The two I remember most are;
The roar after the post-game announcement that Peter Bondra had signed a contract extension -it was a 5-4 game against Toronto and Bondra netted the hat-trick. That was the year he had requested a trade but got off to such a great start that he decided to stay. The place totally lost it’s shit when that flashed on the jumbotron after the final horn sounded.
The ovation earned by Todd “Hands of Stone” Krygier who took Esa Tikkanen’s controversial dump-in and stashed it behind Dominik Hasek in OT in game two of the ’98 series against Buffalo…
I bet there was a few times in the ’98 run that was pretty crazy, I wish I had been around for those, I came back in 2000 just for the start of the long slide…
