UPDATE / NEW IDEA: Japers' vs. Broad Street Hockey + Prospects Game?
At the last BSH pick-up game we kicked around a new idea. As you know the Flyers / Caps prospect game is in Washington this year. We were thinking of maybe tying in our little game into a big group excursion to said prospects game. Would you all be interested in that? Because of where the game is we could do it closer to wherever the rookie game is played.
Not sure on the details of the prospects game just yet and I haven't gotten an interest poll up on BSH either but I just wanted to let you all know that we might be willing to play in your neck of the woods.
I believe the date of the game is Sept. 17th? Does that work for most of you?
Hello everyone,
Hope you're all having a great off-season.
Over at BSH we've had a couple of pick-up games where a bunch of us get together and play roller for a couple hours. After the last one I thought to myself "Wouldn't it be cool to do it against another blog? Make an actual (yet, still friendly) game out of it?" So I figured why not? Are you guys up for it?
Basically I'm thinking we pick a roller rink that's equidistant from Philly and D.C. and a date that works for the majority of both sites and get a game going. Some people have voiced concerns over whether we could civilly play a game between Caps fans and Flyers fans but I have no doubt that things won't get out of hand. When we've played together we've done a mix of roller and foot hockey at the same time, however, I think that for a game only roller would be the best way to go (goalies can be on foot if they prefer). So what do you say? Should we have the first ever BSH vs. Japers' game?

I would pay money to see this. DO IT.
On the Forecheck: preaching the Predators' gospel to the unwashed masses.
I’d play in a heartbeat work schedule permitting.
The only wrinkle would be finding an inline rink between DC and Philly. While there are several around Philly (Feasterville, Marple, NE Raquet Club, Flyers’ Skate Zone) and a few in the DC Metro area (The Box, Dulles Sportsplex, and Capital Clubhouse) there really isn’t much in the way of inline rinks in between.
I am a hockey fan first, and a Caps fan second.
I’d be down for it as well, but the real men play ice hockey round these parts, partner.
Look at me, Dustin! I'm a F%^king Icon!
I’m pretty sure that sentiment isn’t exclusive to DC. Ice Hockey > Roller Hockey > Pretty much everything else.

Put it on ice
and I’d do it in a heartbeat.
On sportcourt? Not so much.
'Cause the end of what it was is what it is right now...

We tried to plan a BSH ice game but nothing really came of it. If this goes well I bet we could take it to another venue in the future though.

Not all of us JR fans live in areas condusive to ice hockey =P
but then again. . .i play both in LA so. . .
It's The Wait for Red October. Except rather than Sean Connery, Alex Baldwin, and Sam Neill, it's George McPhee, Bruce Boudreau, and Alex Ovechkin.

In at seventhies… haven’t had roller gear since I moved away from my Santa Monica beach apartment.

I’m a much better ice player than I am roller hockey
but as for a venue, how about

its 10 minutes north of baltimore. Should be middle ground for all involved.
Because now I can justify browsing and commenting during the work day with the argument that I am promoting my business.
When we play, we choose outdoor public rinks. It keeps the cost down to nothing but travel expense. This could be possible though if all teams are willing to chip in.

Great idea but count me in the ice hockey only crowd. Haven’t rollerbladed since HS and I’m sure I’d be terrible.

BTW, any plans for the next Rink pickup? No reason you have to organize it everytime I guess, tho you do have the contacts at this point.

The contact is easy, it’s been the timing that was tough. Nobody really showed any interest all summer so I wasn’t going to hound people. I just took the bar exam and now I have a wedding and honeymoon to deal with so I wasn’t really in a rush to do anything. If people want something to happen in late August or into September we can figure that out pretty easily. I can either give up the contact info (hint: it’s on the KCI website) or I can run it but right now I probably can’t spot the full ice slot cost like I did before.

based on summer travel and previous non-interest, probably best to wait until everybody is back in September.

I’d do this. I’m an inline goalie at heart so that bodes well for me. As others have said though almost all of our players are ice only.

As long as it's inlinne
I’m in. My wheels are all for rough-service outdoor, but I can switch them out if we’re playing on a sportcourt. Just let me know and I’ll get some fellas to roll through (as long as it’s not on a weekend I’m in China or in a wedding).

Haven't played in-line for years, but...
…I’m in (depending on schedule). Since I’m a third-party combatant, I’ll wear whatever colors need an extra skater. It’d be particularly tough to wear orange, but I can put my personal feelings aside for a day if BSH needs a guy.
Freestate up in White Marsh is probably your best bet. It’s an hour and a half from Philly and about an hour from D.C.
F&B, here’s hoping you passed the bar exam. I still have no idea how I passed it earlier this year, but no complaints. Congrats on the marriage to Mrs. F&B. Guess that means opposing-team distractions are no longer possible, eh?
If You Need a player
I’m in HS and I do play roller hockey often, but i’m semi new to the sport. I"ll stand in front of the net or i can go in goal (i’ve got street pads), wherever i’m needed, i just hate philly.
Awesome!
We seem to have enough support for this to get it done. Sometime next week I’ll post a list of dates for people from both teams to pick from.
Does anyone on here know of any rinks that are preferably public and free to use that would be a good distance for both teams to travel? (i.e. not too close to one or the other)
Note: The post will probably be on BSH, so I’ll post a link over here.

Freestate would be good. I think I’ve rented there before and it was like 100$ for an hour. I won’t be playing if this takes place outside on concrete or something rough, all my gear is too good.
