Via @Mastro72, great video of an incident during today's scrimmage between goaltender Braden Holtby and forward Evgeny Kuznetsov. Bruce Boudreau had this to say about it: "I think we'll have a word with Kuznetsov. Because in North America you can't taunt or make funny moves. When he did that, he was having fun maybe, but he gave a little taunt to Holtby. After [the goal], he sort of went, 'Ooooh' and laughed him. That's not going to go well with North American people. ...And I'm going to have a little chat with Holtby."

Not cool on Holtby to whack someone in such a vulnerable area. If you’re going to retaliate, hit them in the shins, trip or punch them. Don’t want to see someone going out with a messed up achilles.
I look to the future because that's where I'm going to spend the rest of my life.
Braden showing his…Price-tag shall we say?
ZING
Bruce Boudreau when asked about Brooks Laich's return to the lineup, he said: "He just adds another dimension to our team. If it was puzzle, he just fits that thing. He completes us."
Brooks Laich completing everything from teams to tires and everything in between.
Whatever Kuznetsov said it was totally inappropriate for Holtby to react like that. He’s one of the guys that knows exactly where he will be playing next year no matter how this week goes. The contact before that wasn’t bad and it looked like he was just frustrated. Not cool.

Yeah. I agree.
The contact was minimal. Kuz shouldn’t skate by him and yap, but the slash was not called for.

Couldn’t agree more (and I quoted you on SBNDC, hope you don’t mind. But why would you mind now that you’re unfathomably famous?).
Move into your parents basement and start a blog!
Just kidding. Sort of.

Move into your parents basement andstart a blog!
Step one is unnecessary.
"Don't mind WM...he's an all-around jerk."
I don’t even have the option of moving into my parents’ basement. First off, my dad’s house does not even have a basement. (And my mom has been dead for over 20 years.)
Rocking the Red since 1975
For some reason, I could have sworn he said “move out of your parents basement.” I even re-read it four times. Goddamn it.

I haven’t seen a proper basement since we moved to the “land of the split levels” aka Northern Virginia.

He’s a guy who wants to stay in one place and be comfortable and win, just like me. We talk all the time about playing together, and we talked after the playoffs about how we can win in Washington."

Those kinds of homes are very popular all throughout the DC area. It’s very odd, and I’ve lived (near) here my entire life…
I was kidding, but in all seriousness, it’s because split-levels and ramblers were the popular architectural style during the postwar boom through the early 70s at a time when the greater DC area was being developed at an unbelievable rate. Tie it in with the growth of the Federal government and massive influx of workers helping to drive the development, and—voila—split levels everywhere. Really I like my split-level, but this is very OT. My apologies.

Doubleplus uncool, Braden.
You perhaps knew me better as "Your Nation's Capital." Same great commentary, now with 100% more transparency!
Holtby:
"You never really want to see that, especially in a guy that is going to be your teammate hopefully someday… I am sure he did not mean it, but it kind of looked that way. “
Kuznetsov:
”It’s all forgotten."

I am sure he did not mean it, but it kind of looked that way. But in saying that, I got to control myself in those situations," he said. "I lost focus after that whole Kuznetsov thing.
It’s easy to forget but Holtby at 20 is still quite young. He’s a fiery guy—just needs to harness it for motivation not retaliation.
Thanks for the piece. Love hearing about the personal stuff—warts-n-all.

I’m surprised nobody has taken the “respect your (relative) elders” angle on this one. If I’m a new first rounder, I’m not going to taunt a goalie that’s been around for three years. Seems common sensical to me.
Why wouldn't you play Perreault? He's a really talented young player.
Perhaps that the angle BB took when he had his talk with him.

“Don’t taunt the goalie. Holtby has a championship, and you don’t. And those goalie sticks hurt, don’t they?”

So it would have been ok to taunt if Kuz was older? I think the taunting is bad regardless of the age dynamics, but the slash was worse.
Deo ac Fehritati.
I said nowhere that it’s ok if Kuz is older. Just surprised that he’d even consider it seeing as how he’s the younger guy and ought to know better than to be a pest to the established guys.

Holtby showing that maybe he is got that same mind as Patrick “I’m a douche bag” Roy :) and maybe Kuz is the Caps very own Sean Avery in the making, LoL. neither is good ……… Holtby was so out of order …….. and as for Kuz’s actions ……… what actions I think the term stick and stones …….. grow up people its called mind games and its clearly 1 – 0 to Kuz
"Do you smell that? It's napalm, son. Nothing else on the world smells like that. I love the smell of napalm in the morning. Y'know, once we had a hail bomb....12 hours....and when it was all over I walked up. We didn't find one of them, not one stinking dink body. The smell, y'know that gasoline smell, that whole hell. Smells like........ Victory. Some day this war's gonna end."

![Via Traktor Chelyabinsk's website, here's Evgeny Kuznetsov graciously accepting a handmade hat from some of his fans.
The Traktor fans were aware of the NA tradition of the hat trick, and in honor of his strong performance at World Juniors, they made him one of his very own:
"It is known that the ocean [overseas leagues - ed.] has a tradition: after the execution of a hat-trick fans throw on the ice caps. Hat-trick in a literal translation - "hat trick". Kuznetsov played in the World Cup just two such trick: in the group stage, he scored 3 goals in the gate the Latvian team, and in the semi-finals three times, struck the gate of Canada. These two points are noted."
