You do know its based on a graphic novel for its stylized depictions…Other movies like Alexander make Persians look a lot more respectable.

I mean, my ancestry has always been shown as either Nazis or Vikings, and the Vikings at least were so stereotyped. Mind blower – they didn’t actually have horns on their helmets, and they were actually the biggest sticklers for being clean in Europe for a while.

terrible fight. Barbarians vs the most trained soldiers and kings personal guard for the Persian Army. If I remember the fight came out close to 700-300 in favor of the immortals.
I don’t think they should of done Spartan v Immortal but against a similarly armored opponent would of been more interesting.

Honest question – is Gonchar truly one of the best UFA out there or is my Penguins “issues” clouding my judgement? I think he looked old during the second half of the season – I guess he has played alot of hockey over the past couple of years. But he sure does look like he has slowed down. Is he worth anywhere near what he is asking?

I feel like they just say stuff like that to temper our expectations for a BIG name, you know? Explain why we didn’t get Kovalchuk (even though smart hockey fans know why), why we probably won’t go after Volchenkov, why Nabokov’s not coming to DC, etc.
GMGM will do what he needs to do to improve the club but neither he nor Ted will advocate a big splash, and neither will give away their hand before they have to.

Right, but I don’t think he left because he wanted out – I think he left because we weren’t willing to give him as much money or as long a term as he wanted. I think he was hoping we’d re-sign him, to be honest. If it wasn’t about the money, then I’d think he just hated DC.
We’ll see what Michalek signs for but my guess is he thinks he can get more than that on the open market – if he doesn’t, we’ll know he just wanted to leave Phx.

I have to say, I like Biron a lot – I think he gets it, he’s not out to money-grab. He knows his role, he’s accepted it, and he’s willing to take less money if it means he gets to play.
Granted, backing up Lundqvist will give him like 5 games a year, but still…and that’s a pretty sweet per-game rate for Marty.
I wonder if NYR told him that they wanted to rest Hank a little more and he’d get more than 5-10 starts. He’s a good team guy but I know he really wants to play.
Plus, he just spent some time on LI so he knows how awesome the area is and must have jumped at a chance to not have to move.

He’s a two time Norris nominee, two time first team all star, and the only guy not named “Nicklas Lidstrom, best defenseman in the game” to break the ppg barrier since 1994. Dear god, DO IT Sharks…keep him away from the Pens. Michalek with a crappy D corps around him is doable but add another good D in there and I start to get nervous.
Michalek alone is a pretty important upgrade. Right now PIT and PHI are the class of the East.

Phoenix had a better goalie behind Michalek and couldn’t get out of the first round. Not convinced that one move makes Pittsburgh that much scarier.
Michalek might make them better defensively but don’t forget that they lost Gonchar. I’d like to see how their power play does without him before making such claim. Also, don’t forget that the Pens lost most of their games against the top teams last season. Does losing Guerin and Gonchar and adding Michalek really makes them so much better right now?
