C’mon, Jarnkrok…fall to us.

Hahaha. If he falls it won’t be to the third round. We’d need to pick up a 2nd to have any chance. I don’t see it.
I waited all year for this?

Findley back in the lineup, everything else is the same from Wednesday (at initial glance).
They're coming.

USA Hockey is looking great this year. I always wonder how many of these guys will really pan out…
John Carlson - Glory follows him.
Kabanov is going to fall to us. Everyone has seen him and I think it’s at the point where these teams won’ take him in any circumstance.
I waited all year for this?
Heh.

Becca's delightful tweet
See what happens when you get labeled as a nutcase with a troublesome father, kid? You end up living in Uniondale.
John Carlson - Glory follows him.
[repeated from the other thread]
Kiril Kabanov’s chances at becoming a solid NHL player just evaporated. Drafted by the NYI? No way he gets the structure or discipline he needs.
I know the current GM and coaches are not the same crew who screwed up Alex Yashin, but I don’t think they’ve improved all that much either.

Yeah, it’s hard to look at NYI player development and be too excited. I can’t think of any of them that are particular success stories. The guys you look at as good players (Okposo, Tavares) were guys that were taken in the first round and should be good-to-great players.
I waited all year for this?
Aw snap, now it's on
First off, he won’t live in Uniondale, he’ll live in one of the nice towns in the area. Second off, both Nassau county and Suffolk county are demographically almost identical to the DC area suburbs. And finally, if only because of the weather, LI is a better place to live than DC, so suck it.
I waited all year for this?
And besides, the franchise that just drafted him won’t be anywhere near the New York area in 3 years. They’ll be in Kansas City or Vegas or Winnipeg.

Uh-oh — the Caps just traded their 3rd round pick for the opportunity to negotiate with Vesa Toskala before July 1. What the hell are they thinking?

Impressive, I definitely like the pick, and the draft so far.
Varlavirth.
Carlznerson.
MP/Mackan.
Kutznetsov/Galiev.
A-Gord/SDR.
We have a lot of depth and balance to our farm, even with 4 of those guys coming off the list this season, and maybe one more.
I waited all year for this?
You forgot bottom line center — Kyle Wilson/Jay Beagle — both of which were undrafted free agents.

The scouting report profile really makes him sound good. I have to say I like this pick. Seems like exceptional value for an 86 overall. This may end up being an even better 3rd round pick than Cody Eakin. I hope he comes to play at development camp as well. GMGM has really added some skill up front, which we know we are going to need on the cheap going forward. I’m pleased.

The Claude Giroux skillset sounds goooood

There’s a debate on the other thread about whether defense is a skill. From the scouting report on Galiev:
Defensively, Galiev will back check with the same determination as he would a loose puck in the offensive zone. He also is effective on the forecheck with his speed and takes the proper angle.
This is the part of playing defense that I consider to be a skill. It’s hockey sense, and I don’t think it can be taught.
Galiev just needs to be as strong on the puck in the defensive zone as he is in the offensive zone. At times, when he intercepts the puck in his own zone, he appears uncertain as to what he should do with it. Also, while Galiev doesn’t shy away from contact, he doesn’t protect the puck as well in his own zone as he does when he’s generating offense. He just needs to develop a better understanding of the defensive game and gain confidence in his decision making in that regard.
This is the part of defense that I think can be taught. Give the kid instruction on what to do when the puck ends up on your stick in your own end, and then put him in that situation 10,000 times in juniors and in the AHL. It’s great to hear that someone thinks Galiev has the important part already, and just needs training to really get good.

Oh shit, from JP
From NHL.com: Galiev patterns his game after Washington’s Alexander Semin – "Semin, he’s my favourite player. I want to be him."
John Carlson - Glory follows him.
If we get two entry level contract players with Semin skill, we’ll be doing well even if they have the random dropoffs.
