@JapersRink: More McPhee: tried to move up with the ten or so teams in front of them to draft Kuznetsov. Couldn’t, but still got their guy.

Aw man, glad that didn’t happen…

Right with you. 100%.

Still, for me the draft is a snooze. The only thing worse is the MLB draft.

The NBA draft was pretty bad. But for the same number of picks, NBA was done in about 2-1/2 hours and NHL took four. I still like NHL better. NBA has the commissioner announce everything and the ESPN talking heads are annoying, except for Jay Bilas.

I think the difference for me is that the NHL and NBA picks play for the “big club” right away.

We’re seeing kids tonight that we may not see for two to three years.

Well, the NBA development league is the NCAA, so it’s different.

Hockey drafts are more like baseball drafts. Drafting 18 year old kids for the most part where it’s hard to figure out how good they’ll be in the long run.

Although plenty of college kids get drafted in baseball as well.

Bobby Mac did mention in a pre-show that some teams had Kuznetsov ranked higher than one of Burmistrov/Tarasenko. Guess we were one?

by Vinn on Jun 25, 2010 11:12 PM EDT up reply actions

I guess so. The Caps, if they keep picking Russians like this, must have a very prevalent scouting team in Europe.

Then again, they did pick AnGus. But I do like this pick. Lots of mock drafts had him coming to us anywho.
