Bäckis is giving back and wants to give hope for the future
The golf tournament that Bäckis is organizing starts tomorrow in his hometown Gävle. The purpose of the tournament is to collect money for a new foundation, Gefle sports and Future Foundation that Nicklas co-founded with three others.
The Foundation’s goal is to award two scholarships per year and send a gift to the children’s wing at Gävle hospital as well. Some money will remain in a fund so the money can grow for years to come.
These two scholarships goes to one young golf player and one young hockey player. And here’s the kicker the winner of the scholarship get to spend a few days in Washington with Nicklas Bäckström.
Nicklas friend and co-founder Ove Molin has this to say about Bäckis drive:
It just goes insanely far.
88 players are divided into 22 teams among them are Peter Forsberg, Douglas Murray, Mikael Samuelsson, The Salming brothers, Anders “the worm” Carlsson, Nicklas Danielsson, Tobias Enström, Robert Nilsson, and virtually all of the Brynäs players.
Even though Bäckis, as well as the other participants, says that the most important thing is to collect money for the charity they all want to raise the cup that the winning team receive.
Of course, we are all athletes. But it is a team competition, so you can’t do it on your on as an individual and that’s the fun part to see witch team that come up with the best strategy.
Thanks to all the interest this tournament has gathered we are able to help a lot of kids witch feels great because it’s a good cause.
Me and the other’s that are taking part in this have been very fortunate in life and the fact that we can help children that haven’t had it as easy as we have and give them some hope for the future feels incredible.

thanks so much for the translation Ice Warrior! Great to see Nicky doing such good things for others. You were right about the pic not being anything special. Actually I wanted to see it bigger so I went to the original article you linked. Here it is, so Nicky’s train wreck of an outfit is more visible. Although maybe it’s best seen in miniature.

Hmm. He needs to be wearing his Caps hat. Seriously, good for Nicky. It’s always good when the players give back to the community.
"I’m very happy to hear the news," Ovechkin said when he heard about Backstrom's longterm contract--"because he’s one of the top centers in the world, one of my best friends and we want to play together for a long time. He’s a guy who wants to stay in one place and be comfortable and win, just like me. We talk all the time about playing together, and we talked after the playoffs about how we can win in Washington."

Backis, when they take a picture of you in front of the sign for your golf tournament, don’t stand IN FRONT OF THE SIGN.
I hope he raises millions of kronor.
Nicky’s wardrobe is in dire need of color. Next season the Rabbits need to stage and intervention.

Golf update
Even though he didn’t win Nicklas Bäckström was pleased with the day.
It was a good day and I hope we can build on this for next year.
They don’t know how much money they raised yet but the goal was to collect a little bit over 100 000 kronor.
It feels good to be able to give back it’s something we wanted to do for a long time. Doing it in the form of a golf tournament was just perfect."
I think everybody had a good time and we lucked out with the weather. I couldn’t wish for a better outcome.
The Bäckström family did however get one member in the top three. Kristoffer Bäckström, Nicklas older brother can claim the bragging rights for now at least.
With a shot of 292 meters (319 yards) Bäckis beat everyone including the professional golfers in the long drive competition. I think it’s fair to say that it looks like the shoulder is healed up.
Nicklas said in an interview that Sweden will never have a player like you again and that he isn’t even half the hockeyplayer you are?
I read the interview, it’s good to hear but Bäckis is that kind of guy, humble and kind. That is why he said it. I’m very impressed with what he accomplished this year. He became a scorer and delivered the assists that only the big boys deliver.
How much alike are you?
I don’t think we are that similar. I think I play with a little bit more edge then he does.
The video includes a kid in a Bäckström Caps jersey getting his picture taken with Börje Salming, a Bäckis interview, a Salming interview and a Forsberg interview.
Here is some tidbits:
It wasn’t just kids that wanted autographs and having their picture taken with Bäckström and the other hockey players. There were a lot of starstruck adults at the event as well.
The Bäckström interview start at the 0.30 mark.
"I thought about doing something like this for a long time, some sort of a charity thing it’s something good, I want to do it. And I had a lot help from Ove Molin, Anders “masken” Karlsson and Mats Bengtsson from the golf side. We put together this event because we think it’s important to give something back.
Peter Forsberg explained that one of the reason he took part in the tournament except for the good cause was that Bäckis always helps out with his charity Icebreakers, later this Summer Nicklas will play some games for them again to collect more money for sick children.

More pics of Nicky
These are from the article in today’s clips from Ice Warrior. Gotta love the plaid shorts. At least he’s wearing some color as requested above.

Not enough color to qualify.

Yes she is now the proud owner of a signed Bäckström caps shirt. She said that it wasn’t that many people there and that Nicklas was very nice and tall.

Cool. How hard is it to find Backstrom Caps gear there? Did she get a picture with Nicky? I envy her:)
Honestly I don’t really know. I never bought any Caps merchandise. I’m a terrible fan I don’t give any money to the organization. The only caps related thing I own is a 19 t-shirt and I got that from a friend in the US.
I guess I’m at some point will invest in a proper jersey but it’s same thing with that I’m gonna have it shipped from the US.
I’m pretty sure it will be a Schultz jersey, sorry Bäckis.
She did get a pic with him. But didn’t ask for a hug because she thought that he had to hug enough “old” lady’s as it is.

To answer your question. its not that easy to get NHL merchendise here in Sweden. There are some internet sites ofc, but they are vastly expensive if your interested in something they dont stock (like some teams and/or players).
Its more common to order straight from US sites or finding someone that has a chain of connections and therefore buying for lower prizes and may import and sell for a decent prize (often advertising on sites like craiglist or ebay).
bought my shirt (Ovie just cos his birtyear suited a party theme , rather have Fehr or Gordon hehe) from ebay myself.
You Take Care Now.
Looks like Nicky got a bit too much sun.

he did say in the article that he planned to stay in Sweden all summer and spend time on watercrafts and boats.
Yeah I read that to and immediately remembered the incident two years ago when he was jet skiing with some friends.
One of his friends jet skis broke down and the others went to get help when the weather suddenly took a turn for the worse and he got caught out in the thunder storm and hail all alone and had no place to hide from the lightning.
Nicklas and his other friends tried to find him but the bad weather made it impossible. They called Sea Rescue and they found him a couple of hours later. Fortunately he was ok.
Being at sea in a thunderstorm is always scary. I don’t even want to think about being trapped out there with no where to hide, scary stuff.
