Per Tim Leone:
Goalie Brent Krahn (concussion), who hasn’t played yet in the series, exited before Matt Climie. However, that happened at the Game 5 morning skate and Climie still started, with Krahn backing up.
Krahn did look sharp during drills.
My money’s on Climie starting, but figured I’d throw Krahn’s line out there.

Sort of a Philly scenario without the goaltending fail. Tough call; do you stick with the guy that brought you and has played pretty darn well, or go with the guy who’s supposed to have been there? Psychologically, might it help them to throw a guy out there that Hershey hasn’t seen yet?

Sad that injury was the major concern. He stayed healthy for the most part and still didn’t get it done.

Except 1991 did happen. I gave birth to my younger daughter. Plus, for any Braves fans out there, that was the year they went from Worst to First. (I’m married to a Braves fan but now he’s a Nats fan,)
Carlson was a 1 year old baby boy then.

I loved how they used Carlson on the PP. Not playing the point exclusively, but allowing him to roam. He got his goal from freelancing to the slot and pouncing a loose puck. I’d love to see BB let our two most frequent point men do that on the PP.
Alzner has been the best Bear so far, IMO. He has been moving great and reading the play exceptionally well. You can see his commitment to being more offensively aggressive on that goal. Normally he’s not the kind of guy that will pinch down to the top of the face off circle but he saw that he had the room and took advantage of it.
TEX is definitely collapsing hard down low, that is leaving a ton of space up at the points and the Bears seem to be using it well. Aside from the pure point totals, that’s another huge reason to have D that are competent with the puck. It makes the cycle much more dangerous and allows a team to keep offensive zone pressure for much longer. Hopefully when Carlznerson join the ranks we’ll have D that can make better use of the puck in the offensive zone. It would have been really helpful against MON, that’s for sure.
I’m not trying to scam on Jordan’s Kool-Aid (although he keeps trying to take my rightful spot as the Founder, President, and CEO of the MP Lobby), but McNeil looks pretty good too. The guy can definitely skate and looks like a decent player. He may end up being a great bottom pair D for us in a couple years, but I doubt he’s ready by next season.

Appreciate your analysis. It’s going to be interesting to see how Carlzerson merges with the PP next year.
Your regularly scheduled Miguel Batista Fan Club has been preempted by an Angry Bear, MATTY P!
I’m flattered, but I doubt BB has anything to learn from me. He knows plenty, it’s a matter of making the adjustments. He likes who he likes and that’s about all there is to it sometimes, it seems.
I waited all year for this?
I doubt Alzner sees any PP time, at least not without injury. I would hope that Carlson would be a fixture by the end of the year but I bet BB stays with AO/Green as the top unit on the points and that leaves Carlson to get scrap PPTOI. I’d rather use Green and Carlson on the points and move AO to the LW, but BB seems very attached to using AO on the point. I hate it.
I waited all year for this?
Totally agree with that. Ovie can turn it over sometimes and it can leave the other guys to become spectators. You’d like to see something a bit more fluid.
Your regularly scheduled Miguel Batista Fan Club has been preempted by an Angry Bear, MATTY P!
AO also has to worry about getting beat for a breakaway on the point and I’d rather he not have that concern/risk over him. He’s a shark in the offensive zone and basically tying him to the one corner of the ice negates that. I’d rather let him float down low and find open lanes and pounce loose pucks. The closer he is to the net, the better.
I waited all year for this?
Yep he can be aggressive and offensive but sometimes his creativity seemed to lead to shorthanded chances for the opposition.

From Calder Cup coverage to commercial from Redskins Live — going from the sublime to the ridiculous
Who was Walton referring to when he spoke about a player who would be getting a good look in Washington due to his defensive play but also for “that” (something he did on the ice). Also mentioned they attended RIT.
Pinizzotto? Only mention of RIT I see from a quick scan of the media guide.
Pinner, yeah. But I thought someone said that Walton thinks he needs another year in the AHL before he can go to the NHL.
I waited all year for this?
I un-muted the TV during that comment so I think I missed a good bit of it. I did catch Pinner going after Jamie Benn late in the period. I definitely love to see that. I don’t know whether Benn is tired or what, but he hasn’t stood out at all in this game, except for his size.
I waited all year for this?
They keep talking about how much hockey he’s played. I don’t know what kind of ice time he’s getting, but I’ll bet the Stars are depending on him way more than Dallas did and it’s gotten to him.
"It's always good to have vikings."
Well TEX is definitely depending on him more heavily, and he has played a lot of hockey, but he was still playing extremely well even through the HAM series so it’s odd that he suddenly fell off the cliff this series. I want to believe it has more to do with Carlznerson than anything else.
I waited all year for this?
Leone said that, not Walton if I’m not mistaken

Good lookin’ out. I don’t think 2010-11 will be when the Bears become our checkers, probably the year after. They’ll get looks next season to see what we have and then they’ll need to start using some of the cheap Bears instead of higher priced veterans. We can’t afford too many Million Dollar 4th Liners for much longer.
I waited all year for this?
Cap goes up every year. $1 Million ain’t too much for a quality player. Matt Brads earned his Mill last year.

Right. But if we are going to keep Carlznerson, Green, Schultz for the long term we’re going to have to start cutting money somewhere. That’s not mentioning finding a 2C and raises to the guys that are RFA on the current squad.
I waited all year for this?
Next summer is going to be fascinating. The #3, #4, #5, and #6 salaries on the team (Semin, Poti, Knuble and Laich) will all be UFA. That’s a lot of flexibility to remake the team with. The D is pretty much set (Green, Schultz, Alzner, Carlson), but the Caps currently have only 4 forwards signed for ‘11-’12, and only another one or two who will be RFA.
Enjoy watching the young Bears forwards tonight everyone. A lot of them may be Caps in two years.

"Ovechkin is as subtle as a shot of vodka."
Gordo’s contributions were clearest when he was out with his LBI. The top two lines totally floundered, and the pp fell apart.
Since he came back from injury, he’s been on the ice for all 3 gwg’s in Texas, as well as the GTG in Game Two. If the Stars finish scoreless, Gordo has an assist on today’s GWG as well.
But how many games did he miss? Only 2 or 3 right? I’m sure it hurt but you had to expect MAN to put up a fight so I can’t put it all on AGord being out of the lineup.

Why? Because of the personality? I don’t really see how he’s earned it. He’s been good but he hasn’t been relied upon as much as some other guys and doesn’t have the same points as a few. Big save by Neuvirth. He hasn’t been tested much but has come up with the big saves when they are called for. MVP MVP MVP.
I waited all year for this?
I’v’e been really impressed how unflappable he’s been in a high pressure situation like this. Always good to see a (seemingly) psychologically resilient player.
Looks like I picked the wrong season to stop sniffing glue.

Yeah, the more he plays the more he shows mental toughness. As a young kid (18) from the Czech Republic he went to the OHL and led an undermanned team to an OHL championship. He went to the ECHL, then Czech league, then AHL, then NHL, then AHL last year, and won the CC MVP. I like him.

Ok. 6:50 to go. You are shorthanded and down 3-0.
How early do you pull the goalie?
I’m thinking the instant the penalty is killed.

As the Stars coach, yes.
It’s kind of like the coach of a team down by 3 in hoops saying “When Kobe makes the second free throw . . . .”

Hey — it was an idea.
By the way – I pull the goalie right now.

Give the stars their credit, they are not giving up, trying to take away Neuvys shutout.
"Ovechkin is as subtle as a shot of vodka."
And Neuvith knows it and looks damn sharp. Great kick save and he follows it up with the glove.

Question....
Do you think CSN will show more Bears games now that we have shown we will watch them?

God I hope so, Or Ted gets his own network and sneaks bears games in there. That would be the best possible option.

Names and abbreviations of the network… for example NBC, CBS, ABC.

As long as it shows outside the immediate Metro DC area, I will not miss the year-round Redskins coverage.
Looks like I picked the wrong season to stop sniffing glue.
They have a lot ontheir plate during the regular season, but I would hope so. My questionis with Ted in control of the vc, will he invite the bears to play a game there?

I mean, John Carlson’s old enough to win two major youth based championships (one for his country) but he’s not old enough to drink?
"Don't mind WM...he's an all-around jerk."
With the highest legal drinking age.
My elder daughter always used to complain about that (along with the fact that kids in some other countries could see certain movies with R rated content before American kids could.)

Having bounced between the US and Germany growing up, I hate the principal of a minimum drinking age on most levels. And I’ve never been a heavy drinker.

My daughter’s not really much of a drinker. She’s more annoyed by the legal drinking age on general principle. as well
Rocking the Red since 1975
Kids in Germany really don’t drink to get drunk, and beer is freaking everywhere. It’s a matter of culture, for one, but the principal difference (in one person’s opinion) is that parents introduce alcohol to the kids in Germany, who then think “Oh, it’s just this. I could get drunk, but whatever.” whereas in America we rely on other people (not pointing fingers at you, just as a culture) to raise our children, which leads to a society of “WHY THE HELL IS THIS ON MY TELEVISION?” instead of “Thank God I have a remote.”

I know that full well. I still disagree with it, and John Carlson’s American. He can’t point at that.

Congrates to Borque, Sad for Neuvy but I hope he is winning a different playoff MVP trophy next year

That would definitely get him a 10 from me.

Ray bourque with a playoff beard on his chest. So cool that he is there and that they let the families on the ice with the players.

I am really looking forward to seeing some of these guys with the Caps come October. Good stuff.

On my short list of guys I wouldn’t mind seeing in RWB, A. Gordon, Smith, Neuvirth, Carlson, Alzner, MP, Pinner.

Is it one of those impossible to spell (and pronounce) Slavic names?
It almost seems like when the Poles came to America, they had a choice of changing the spelling of their name to preserve the pronunciation or preserving the spelling and the pronunciation totally mangled up.

I hate free agency. It’s my least favorite part of hockey. Not a fan of seeing my favorites leave our team. (I know, I’m not emotionally stable.)

Love Theo, but it wasn’t specific to him, just a general statement. I wonder why they haven’t announced that they’re not re-signing him if they’ve announced BMo, Corvo, and Walker.

Hoping for a home town discount, or maybe to flip him at the deadline for a late draft pick.

I don’t think we have anyone who’s a real, real threat to leave (whom we’d want to stay), so I’m not too worried.

He has personal favorites, though. I’ll be upset to see Erskine leave when he does, but I know it’ll improve the team. It’s double edged.

Of course, the moves we make are supposed to improve our team, so generally I’m not too worried. Sometimes I get too emotionally attached to some of the guys though. I feel bad when really classy and likeable guys leave, even if it’s best for our team. I’m weak.

True: I still hate that Clark isn’t here, anymore.
by DrinkingPartner on Jun 14, 2010 10:04 PM EDT up reply actions
That’s the truth. Clark was one of those guys who I really liked even when I knew that he seemed to be losing his role on the team.
(I just had this feeling after the game of Superbowl Sunday in 2009 that he was losing his role when he was scratched two days in a row. But we found out that he wasn’t a healthy scratch after all but getting season ending surgery.)

This one paid off, and we’ll have pretty pictures of shiney things to post. Wooo.
