Joel Broda reflects on his juniors career and looks to the future. The Caps have 'til June 1 to sign him - after that he becomes a free agent and he has been apparently been talking to some other teams.

I don't think...
…he can talk to other teams until after June 1. He’s still exclusive to the Caps until then. That said, I suspect that he’ll get signed, unless the Caps have learned something that they’ve kept quiet about.
The Caps did draft Nick Boynton and didn’t get him signed, and while he’s turned into a decent NHL player, he never became the star that the Caps thought he would be (considering where he was drafted). It was a good thing they didn’t sign him (admittedly, they should have drafted better…three picks after Boynton, Ottawa selected Marian Hossa…)

I think the writing has been on the wall with respect to Broda for a while – the Caps just aren’t all that into him. Maybe we should expect a Keith Seabrook type deal in the weeks ahead.

The Caps swapped Keith Seabrook to Calgary for a draft pick, right?

Right. Days. Whatever. A “hey, we’re not gonna sign him, so let’s get a conditional pick for his rights” type deal. If they’d wanted to sign him, I think they’d have done so by now.

Given how the Seabrook deal turned out, I hope we get something better than just “future considerations.”
This FO gets a lot of the big stuff right (see: Backstrom deal, Knuble signing, drafting JC74), but much of the small stuff wrong (the Erskine/Sloan/Steckel extensions, yo-yo-ing Alzner, the Bourque cap SNAFU, the Seabrook trade…).
'Cause the end of what it was is what it is right now...
Did I miss something with Seabrook? I admittedly don’t follow the Flames farm team, but has he broken out and become a good defensive prospect?

I’d sign him just because of his awesome hair.
The entire British Empire was built on cups of tea, and if you think I'm going to war without one, you're mistaken.
Ramblin' on.
