Eulogy: Remembering the 2009-10 Pittsburgh Penguins
And to another White Out crowd at the now retired Mellon Arena.Pensblog,Mario Lemieux,Ronald Burke and all other Penguin dignitaries. We in Capsland wish to extend to you our deepest and heartfelt condolences. In the future you should remember that we don't wear white at home games any more, a black out would have been much cooler.
You were taken from us not one second too soon.
Unfortunately the 2009-10 Penguins don't leave us with too many memories.A fourth place finish to the season.A Richard trophy won due to a nine game playing advantage.Hmm can't think of anything else.
Not only did they not win a single measly thing, they have nothing positive this season to look back on.
This spot is where I would go back to a Pens blog post and mock it but I don't care too.
.....Death leaves us with many questions too.
Does anyone on Pittsburgh know how to play defence. Was MAF too busy thinking how he would make sweet loving to Sidney Crosby after the Pens crushed the Habs that he forgot to stop a few pucks?
Dan Bylsma wouldn't want you to remember him for the coach who stuck with his goalie who couldn't stop the puck when it mattered.
Lets not go into the work of Ray Shero, bringing in Poni to help the Pens create more offence but him being scratched for games 5 and 6.
We'd say something about Sidney Crosby and Geno Malkin but were not even sure they even played in the series.Well I actually think I saw them a few times, but I'm not really sure.
And can I throw out a who put the 87 in eliminated?Nah!! but what the hell.
I think after this we can see that the Crosby Ovechkin debate is in fact a very stale and monotonous debate indeed.Crosby that of the Whiner-diver-sucks crybaby-break a few sticks in frustration indeed isn't but a fraction of the player and leader Ovechkin is.
Crosby is the face of the league and of Canadian hockey.I think everyone watching was more captivated by Montreal's P.K Subban in games 1-7.In fact they were probably more captivated by Montreal's Kostysen brothers.
Pens fans can now think about not having a banner to raise in their new digs next season.
Now we can pile on the dirt.
The lasting image of Crosby taking a stupid penalty ten seconds into game seven and opening the flood gates, brings this strange karma-tic feeling after last years round two game seven. That it even does give a feeling of some consolation to many Caps fans. But its his lack of leadership or his inability to get to the level of intensity of his teammates that stands out the most.
We like to think the last thing that went through Crosby's head wasn't how Halak got the best of him,you need to shoot the puck more than 20 times in seven games to get that feeling, but rather how He was completely dominated by Montreal for seven games. He also may have been thinking, wow Ovechkin really is just much better than me .
We hope when Crosby shook Halaks hand, well we really just were hoping he would shake hands.
We hope that when Crosby was in fact shaking hands that he wasn't crying!
We hope that next year in all those meaningless games we will play against the Pens, that once again we will sweep them.
We really don't care about the golf courses in the Pens dreams.
(This whole post for those that don't know is a right back at you post of the Pensblogs eulogy of the Caps as posted on Puck Daddy)

Vitriol Much?
Well. Uh. You told me on my fan post how lacking I was in nastiness. I think you have more than enough for both of us. Still, I hope it was cathartic. I know the Habs saved me some intense mourning this summer.
Every year without a Cup adds wonder and awe to its eventual arrival.

Every time Matt Bradley scores a goal, everyone inside the Beltway should get the next day off from work. It's only fair.
If you’re going to arrive late to the party, a few things to keep in mind:
1) Don’t wear the same outfit as the host.
2) Make sure it actually looks cool on you.

The Pens
To fill the holes….the Pens will have 3 Stanley Cup banners to raise in their new arena. 1991,92, and 2010 …..four trips……3 victories. After 2 back to back Cup visits and a Olympic victory…little Sid seems to be fine, but thanks for your concern. But I did enjoy the Pens website poll this year when they asked for the top five Pens rivalsand the Caps did not even make the top eight, with Devils, Flyers, Rangers,Islanders and Red Wings rounding out the top five……Caps not even on the radar. As on Miracle when H. Brooks tells his players ….you guys are treating this game like a throw away game in Rochester. Hence regular Caps season games, after 20 years of getting bounced by the Pens, I guess your anger is understandable. Of course my Dad always said, tend your weeds before worrying about your neighbors. In order to bad mouth Sid and the Pens..you should really get there first…..like Sid did TWICE….you know, get on the radar. Oh yea, defense is spelled with a S not a C.

And they had a clear road for a fourth trip and missed…

Pensburgh, where the smarter Pens fans go, had the Caps third, I think.
I think you should go there.

Fans != players. Or, in not-boolean talk, fans are not players. It’s silly to suggest that a team over ~40 years will have a general playoffs-are-a-joke mindset.
Either that or I can’t understand what you’re saying, which is bad because many other people won’t either.

You forgot the part about us not remembering back then.

Did you not read the italicized print on the top of PD eulogies? This post is in the same vein.
Oh yea, defense is spelled with a S not a C.
In Canada it’s spelled with a “c”. In French it’s with a “c” and an accent aigu on the first “e”.
And by the way, make sure you read the comments above before you post, especially on something so short.

What makes you think he’d fit in there?
I waited all year for this?

Just having some fun guys……….don’t like it when the worm turns. Pens have history and Sid will add to it. I don’t listen to bleacher creatures( backseat drivers)….sorry !! Nobody is going to take you serious with this crap and you are entitled to your opinion. That’s the trouble with most Caps fans they only remember their history. Keep up the good work though, your making a difference……a pity party always helps ! Have a nice day now …yah hear ! We live in the US not Canada !!!

You are right. I don’t take you seriously with this crap.
"I’m very happy to hear the news," Ovechkin said when he heard about Backstrom's longterm contract, "because he’s one of the top centers in the world, one of my best friends and we want to play together for a long time. He’s a guy who wants to stay in one place and be comfortable and win, just like me. We talk all the time about playing together, and we talked after the playoffs about how we can win in Washington."

Can you stop typing…with ellipses…and punctuation omissions…it makes working people’s brains hurt…

Right. My brain hurts from the stupidity and barely coherent thought structure of your posts. Not the ellipses.

Sid
If we picked at everything that every player does like the media seems to manage to do and fans takes as the gospel. I’m sure we could tear down every 22yr. player that ever touched a puck. Truth is we will never know how it feels to hold the talent that Sid and Ovie posess and how hard the trip was to get there. But boy oh boy it is fun watching them doing something they love. Don’t be a player hater….love the game.
This FanPost wasn’t supposed to be 100% serious. It’s in jest, like the Pensblog eulogy of the Caps on Puck Daddy conveniently linked to above.
