Save For Kids Pledge Thread! (More than $4,000!)

Jose Theodore has started a charity, Saves for Kids, in memory of his son. If you haven't read Tarik's heartwrentching piece of Theo's loss, please do. This season, Theo will make the following donations based on his play:

  • $2 for each save ($5 for the playoffs)
  • $100 for each win ($200 for the playoffs)
  • $500 for each shutout ($750 for the playoffs)

Theo will donate an additional $500 for each playoff round the Capitals win.

Knowing the generosity of hockey fans in general, and Rats & Rabbits in particular, G.O.D suggested that we come up with our own fundraiser to support this cause. So, here's the deal. You decide which game(s) you will be donating for, regardless of goalie. You set you donation levels. Put this information in your reply, and I will update the list each day, along with a running total of money raised after each game (might be the following morning, but you get the idea). You can donate 5 cents for each save, a flat $5 for a win, match Theo's donation levels, whatever. More important than you donation is your participation, no matter the size.

We can decide at a later date if we want to try and get all this money together and make a single donation to Saves For Kids on behalf of the Rink, or if people are more comfortable doing individual donations.

You can also, as some have already done, make a flat donation immediately. Information on how to do that is available here. If you have, let me know and I'll add you to the list so you can be recognized.

In case you're curious, Jose has already raised $3,800 with his play.

new fanpost so people can post in here instead of having to e-mail me!

Other quasi important info:

you can e-mail me: robin[dot]taylor[at]ana[dot]org. If you e-mailed me in the past few days, bear with me. I was out of the office yesterday and I’m struggling to catch up on e-mails.

I will have a NEW fanpost and spreadsheet for the playoffs.

Googledocs is being difficult and not letting me upload the revised spreadsheet right now. Maybe last today.

Once again, a huge THANK YOU to everyone! We’ll almost certainly hit $3,000 pledged after tonight, which is unbelievable.

Same deal for tonight. I’ll just send the check directly again, now that it’s in my BofA billpay list.

I know I’m late joining in on this, but count me in for .05 per save, all goalies, starting back when the pledges first started (I think it was the Buffalo game).

I wish I could do more at this point, and I’ll reevaluate during the playoffs when I hope to know more on the job front.

With the season over, my pledge has expired. I’ll re-up for the same amount, $0.05 per Theo save, and up the total minimum to $30 (for regular season + playoffs combined).

Cheers for keeping track of this RB.

Gang,

For the regular season, we pledged $3,935.30! Details will be coming soon(ish) as to the group donation, but if you wish to donate directly to the Capitals, the information is linked in the post to do so.

The spreadsheet is here.

If you still want to join the fun, it’s not too late! You can make a flat donation, pledge retroactive to a specific date, or join in the fun with the playoffs! I will be getting the playoff fanpost organized sometime today.

If you haven’t already let me know that you want to extend and/or change your playoff pledge rate, your name won’t be including it in the first posting, but no worries, edits can be made!

Thank you, everyone! I am so proud to be able to say I am part of such a fantastic community.

I’d like to make a small adjustment. I signed on to the $.05 per Theo save, but I also tracked Varly’s saves. I anticipated about $25 total; if I count both goalies, it comes to about $27. So let’s round it up to $30 flat — $1 per Theo win for the season.

Okay I’m joining this, but doing it a little differently. I’m going to mesh beardathon and saves for kids. 25 cents for every non-game day the beard lives, 50 cents for every game day, a buck for a win, 5 bucks for a series win, double the whole thing if we win the cup. Not to knock on Fort Dupont skating, but this seems a more important cause.

Y’all are probably sick of my thanks, but I want to thank everyone again. J.P told me that he is incredibly proud of what our little internet community has come together to do. This has been amazing and I continue to be amazed at the generosity shown here each and every day; beyond the sheer amount of money pledged, nearly 60 people have decided to participate in some way. I can’t thank you guys enough, and I can’t really find the words to explain how grateful I am that so many of you have joined together. Our community is great, and I wouldn’t want to make my internet home anywhere else.

This has certainly been the most entertaining pledge drive I’ve ever been part of – not knowing exactly how each game will turn out save-wise (and star-wise, and SO-wise, etc.) is a big part of the fun.

RedBirdie, important question and I would be forever indebted to you if you can find out for me – will tax documentation be available from Saves for Kids for these donations?

Honestly, I’d rather not be responsible for trying to get tax documents to everyone! But I certainly understand that some of us may itemize and/or make larger donations where tax documents will be needed.
