Capitals Farm Report - WHL Championship Tourney Edition
And then there were two.
Two teams:
Two prospects:
Eric Mestery (Tri-City Americans) Joel Broda (Calgary Hitmen)
And two trophies up for grabs:
On the left is the Ed Chynoweth Cup, which will be awarded to the winner of this tournament. On the right is the Memorial Cup. The team that wins the Chynoweth Cup also earns the right to contest with the OHL champion, the QMJHL champion, and host team Brandon Wheat Kings for the 2010 Memorial Cup.
The puck drops tonight at Pengrowth Saddledome for Game One of the best-of-seven Western Hockey League Championship. Caps fans take note that we have two prospects playing in this tournament, one for each team. Calgary Hitmen forward Joel Broda leads the WHL in goals scored during this playoffs round with 12, and Eric Mestery patrols the Tri-City Americans blueline.
There's a fairly thorough preview of this series available here.

And they used to play together
Eric Mestery and Joel Broda both played for the Tri-City Americans in the ‘06-’07 season when the Tri-City franchise record for wins was broken.
And an interesting fact from wiki:
On November 29, 1989 Americans goaltender Olaf Kolzig became the first goalie to register a WHL goal when he attempted a shot on an empty net against the Seattle Thunderbirds.
