5 reasons the hit on Joe Corvo didn't get punished
- The new rule hasn't been added to the Wheel of Justice or Flowchart yet
- "Who the &@#* is that? Next item."
- "There was no penalty on the play and the dog ate my videotape"
- Alex Ovechkin wasn't involved.
- "Wait, you were serious about that new rule?"

Or the refs just didn’t see it :)
Anyways,… I gotta say.. the officiating in the OTTvPIT game last night was supurb. Those refs had eyes of lightning
I’ve felt the last few years that the first round of the playoffs was officiated horribly and that things were fine from the second round on, don’t know if that will continue this year but so far the first round is awful (true to form). It’s kinda sad that it seems like the league only has about 8-10 crews of good officials. (I bet with a GOOD review system they could get the majority of the crews to be good but currently it seems like just a handful are good in this void of leadership).
Anyway, off my soapbox… glad to see some good officiating in the first round (provided that’s not snark as I didn’t see very much of that game).
Great. Now I have to change my name to "Jaromir meet Alex".

I’m OK if a ref doesn’t see an infraction. What I’m not OK with is when refs make two calls and recind one just for fun or completely forgetting a key phrase in rule 60 about normal shooting motion.
The crew that worked our game 5 should never see another playoff game for the rest of their lives. On a related note, Kelly Sutherland should never see another game period. EVERY game that guy ref’s turns into an officiating joke. Lately we have been on the receiving end of the most benefit, but for some reason, controversy and made-up bullshit calls follow him around like the plague.
Agreed completely. Ahhh but really what are six teeth anyway? He’s got plenty more.
All of that said, it’s a good thing the league has a strong and thoughtful review process to dole out the necessary disciplinary action after the pathetic refereeing utterly fails. Oh wait, never mind. League FAIL!

wasn’t it 8 teeth? Regaurdless,
The Corvo and Belanger hits should of been called and were not missed. 4 officials on the ice and none of them see a guy get his helmet knocked off and hit the ice. I don’t buy it just like I don’t buy no one noticing a 6 on 5 for almost half a minute. What really irks me though is that the Corvo hit should of been reviewed by the NHL because it fit several criteria for the new headshot rule. Even if he wasn’t “injured” its playoffs and most guys are going to man up, cough dentist cough, and keep playing.
CSN replayed the hit and you see the guy come in from behind Corvo, and I’m pretty sure lean in with his elbow to Corvo’s head. How that doesn’t get reviewed is unbelievable. I thought they wanted that shit out of the game, they need to look at all incidents including ones that don’t injure because its still dangerous.
Bruce Boudreau when asked about Brooks Laich's return to the lineup, he said: "He just adds another dimension to our team. If it was puzzle, he just fits that thing. He completes us."
