Well, Rink Rats and Rabbits, it's that time of year again. The time of year where we grow our playoff beards and dye our hair, the time of year where Lord Stanley dominates our dreams and minds, the time of year where the enemies of our enemies become our friends, and most importantly, the time of year where we root our damn lungs out for our team, the Washington Capitals. What time of year, I ask, is better than this one?
People say the Capitals don't have what it takes to win it all. They say that defense wins championships, and that the Capitals have none. They say that we have no goaltending. They say that Ovechkin will choke, and that we won't go far. You know what? It's a whole 'nother season now. Anything can happen. And if they say the Capitals can't win, then who can?
This team is built for winning. From June 26, 2004, the foundation for success started with No. 8. Nearly six years later, we're looking for a championship. There's no doubt the Capitals can win it this year, because in the playoffs, anything can happen.
We all know the kind of season our Capitals have had. History has dominated this year. Record highs in points, goals, plus/minus, and wins. It's all nice and good, right? Well, all that's said and done and in our rearview mirror. It's the second season now. The season where every win, every check, every save matters. We may not have control over that, but we have control over supporting our team. So wherever you are tonight, be it at the Verizon Center screaming like a fanboy/fangirl or at home biting your nails off, support the team, no matter what happens.
Because tonight, 16 wins stand in the way of the Capitals and glory.
Let's Rock the Red.
