"If the Caps finally break through and make the Cup run many expect, their stars will have to be stars, but their grunts will have to step up, too; enter [Jason] Chimera. At 6-foot-2, 216 pounds, he’s exactly the type of guy who can step in when one of the Capitals’ finesse guys finds the going a little too tough in the playoffs. Assuming that happens, Chimera, 30, will be primed to score at a much better pace than the 0.43 clip he did during the regular season."

I hope we will be hearing frequent and plenty of loud, approving bellows of “Beeaaasst!!” a la “Druuuuuuuce!!” in 1989 ….
The long, lost Prodigal_Son has returned from exile! I had abandoned all hope and surely thought he'd join the Pittsburgh flock of flightless fowl after 14 years in the wilderness ...Ladies and Gentlemen of CapsNation, let us celebrate!
If we have a John Druce this year, I’m hoping/thinking it’ll be Fehr, and not just because of his awesome Habs numbers.

Fehr doesn’t fit the Druce mold – to good an offensive pedigree and resume heading into the playoffs.

True, and that’s where the hope part comes in.
Brads or Walker, I guess, are better fits who have a little more than cement for hands.

As a Jackets fan who had three of these guys – Williams (one assist, no goals), Chimera (one assist, no goals), and Malhotra (0 assists, 1 own-goal deflection by trying to catch a slapshot) – all on our team for last year’s sweep, this is really quite unintentionally hillarious. ;)

Though with all due respect, they were playing for the Columbus Blue Jackets last year.

The thing that’s frustrating about Chimera is he has a really hard time finishing. Just hands of stone when he goes in on the breakaways. He makes some of Girouxs attempts look awesome.
If he could get his hands just a little better he’d score a ton more goals. The guy is really ridiculously fast and has a great nose for where to be.
I look to the future because that's where I'm going to spend the rest of my life.
Chimeras line is going to have many chances
If there’s anyone who I think got stronger over the last half dozen games, it was Chimera. I thought he was clearly revving up. As I mentioned in the previous post, defensemen like Gill are going to have to contend with Chimeras size and skill. Gill is the kind of weakness you exploit. When Chimera puts his foot on the pedal, Gill is going to end up beat, or taking a penalty. That line is going to bd in the slot and crashing the net a lot. Montreals defense offer the Caps bottom 6 fwds the opportunity to contribute offensively. While Markov Is getting tired with 8-19-22, Belanger, Fehr and Chimera will be buzzing past Gill.
That’s what I expect to see. Speed, size, and tenacity. Throw in Bradley, Walker and the playoff version of Steckel and you’ve got yourself a game.

Gill won’t be able to handle Chimera… Chimera is too quick for Gill to catch. Gill can contain Bradley or Steckel…
Let's go Caps!

My only concern with Chimera is that he seems to get way too invested in extracting revenge when somebody screws around with him. We saw him go after Ovechkin for an entire game, and then all the penalties against the Bruins for example. Pretty minor issue, and I don’t see it being a problem vs. Montreal, but it might be something to look out for.
My ability to post is only surpassed by my ability to pinch pennies.
As long as he doesn’t decide that Halak (or Price) is his target du jour, he should be okay.

I didn’t see it, being on the adventure to hell Charlotte, but Chimera apparently was causing such a ruckus, throwing stuff around, in the box during the Boston that the ref had to poke his head in there and tell him to knock it the hell off. At which point he stop throwing stuff and switched to yelling fuck at the top of his lungs.

100% Team Effort Needed
The stars will have to shine bright, but if the opposition defense manages to stop one or two of the Caps best players, they still have the offensive depth to wear down the Habs over what I hope will only be 4 or 5 games. That said, a complete team effort is needed, a commitment to play a full 60 minutes—or more if a game goes to OT. The Caps defense has to contribute to the scoring, especially on the PP, and Theo has to be the Theo of his 30 regular season wins. If all these stars align properly, it’s on to round 2 which, if all top 4 seeds advance, will be vs the Penguins again, hopefully with a much different outcome this year.
If anything, the Chimera – B-Mo – Fehr line might be the most important line in the playoffs. That’s a mix of scoring and a good checking line right there, and has the ability to give teams fits. I’m expecting big things out of Chimera.
If my answers frighten you then you should cease asking scary questions.
