What're the Odds?

Rink member HockeyTownDC went to Vegas just before the season started and laid down a little cash on the Caps.

Will he get to redeem this ticket?  Let's see what the hockeysphere has to say:

You may well imagine I find this chart to be entirely satisfactory:

It was produced by WhatIf Sports and includes all sorts of goodies including simulations you can run yourself.  And they back up the above graphic with the chart below.  It has important- and accurate-looking winning percentages on it so you know it must be correct.

Unfortunately, not everyone agrees.  Ryan Lambert at Puck Daddy, for instance:

10 predictions for this postseason:

1. The Capitals will get out of the second round for once, but they won't win the conference.

2. Jaroslav Halak will make the Canadiens look far better than they have any right being.

But Sean Leahy of Puck Daddy found the odds a bit more in our favor.

Joe Yerdon at ProHockeyTalk is unenthusiatic about Caps' goaltending, and he has some of those number thingies to bolster his case.

The Power Rankings Politburo over at USA Today takes away Ovie's Hart Trophy, but allows him to raise Lord Stanley's Cup and throws in a Norris for Green for good measure.  A (largely) acceptable trade, sez I.

Checkers the Checking Line Cat will be making his purrdictions sometime today.

The solons at TSN nod in agreement.

Scott Cullen likes Wings goaltending just a little bit better.

Mr. Hockey Haunches is looking forward to fresh blood in the Finals.  Metaphorically speaking, of course.

The CBC asked the opinions of 12 people who should know.

Finally, just for the heck of it, here's some predictions and discussion about our cousins just up Route 15:  Calder Cup Chatter
